Yes it has multiple players and yes it has advancing as you go along with each game. The game it self is small 8x8

Is this the same size as the original?

Very similar. From what i can find about 1978 version, the box was 11 x 11x 4 inches while the new Simon is 10 x 10 x 2

Is there a volume contro knob and a volume off switch?

No volume control. You couldn’t play the game without being able to hear the sound.
