These are professional quality musical instruments. They are beautiful and produce an amazing quality sound. They were more expensive than seemingly "comparable" drums but there is no question that they are WELL WORTH the extra few bucks. They are substantial, feel rock solid, have a consistent tone and play like a well-tuned set. We gave them as a Christmas gift to our oldest son who's a seasoned musician and we were singing and dancing to his rhythm minutes after he opened the box. Just a great instrument - will definitely look to LP for a set of congas next. So pleased with our purchase!!! A+++

Nice sound for entry level bongos

I'm an amateur drummer who decided to get a pair of bongos as something to dink around with in my living room, so without too much research I bought these. I decided to go about it by the numbers and learn the traditional Cuban patterns and it's turned into a minor passion. The bongos are sturdy and well made. After some experimenting I got the tuning to where they were sounding pretty good. I think some may hesitate to tighten them up as much as they need to be, especially the small drum (macho) which is best when it makes a sharp cracking sound. Nevertheless, the LP City Bongos are smaller than standard and so will never have the same sound professionals get from their bongos. That doesn't mean it's a bad sound, it's just not going to be the same. Also, I'm a tall person (6'4") and I find some techniques I can't do properly because my hands are too large and the drums are too small, but I've managed to adapt well enough. Overall I'm quite happy with the purchase and grateful that it has opened another road for musical exploration.

I played drums whenI was younger and now at 65 find that option to be not convenient and or as easy as it once was. I purchased an individual Congo drum a few years back but even that isn’t enough for sitting around listening to music. I briefly watched a short instruction video on the proper technique for tuning and playing a simple constant 3 hit beat and now have found them so enjoyable to play to almost any song at all. LP makes TERRIFIC percussion instruments and these are an excellent affordable option for any and everyday use. Nobody from beginner to expert would argue. The sunburst color is also extremely rich looking.Spend@few moments watching one of the instruction videos and anyone can play to their hearts content.
