I use stainless at home that says "induction compatible ", but it has a thicker bottom. Solo makes great camp gear. Get something else for cooking at home. **Q: Could the lid from this pot be used as a makeshift small skillet? The side opposite the little handle?** A: No. The rubber piece on the top handle would not fair well. The couture on the inside of the lid is probably not what you are looking for in a skillet. Also the lid would turn black with soot. **Q: How does the weight / density of the metal of the solo pot 1800 compare to the zebra pots or the msr pots?** A: I have a Zebra 12cm and 14 cm pot. I also have the solo pot 900 ml. Both the zebra and the solo are made of 304 stainless steel. The zebra steel is more highly polished (finished) AND thicker walls, bottom, and lid! This adds more weight to the zebra. The folding handles, locking bale, and spout of the solo make ease of use The zebra has a bale that has plastic clips that will melt and should be removed. Once removed the bale doesn’t lock. Also, the zebra has no convenient side handles right spout. I was looking for a quality pot that had a lid, folding handles, could hold about 5 cups of coffee-worth of water, and would last when put directly on campfire hot coals. This is exactly that! I've used it to boil water on coals/fire when camping, and it's great. Very packable, comes in a carry pouch. The lid has a small handle that can fold down, as well as the main pot has a folding loop handle that can be hung on a stick when moving the pot to/from a campfire. No need to get your hands close to the fire. There are also 2 handles on the main pot that fold in/out, that can be used to pour the water out of the pot (which has a working pouring mouth/spout). This is the perfect camping pot if you want something that isn't going to take up much space, is practical and tough. The quality of the stainless steel is great! There are even measurements on it if you want that. I took the advice of other folks who recommend covering the outside of the pot with liquid dishwashing soap, and then wrapping tinfoil around the outside of the pot. This combination will really reduce how much soot and blackening occurs, and makes washing it up later a cinch.
