No the VGA is the Host (Output) and the HDMI is the Target (Input). This takes the VGA out from an old laptop into the HDMI input of a TV or Monitor.

I plugged my new monitor to my old laptop (not so old) and the monitor tells me that cannot find the hdmi connection to the computer, any suggestion?

Unlikely! Usually TV hdmi connections are inputs NOT outputs. However, if your user manual clearly states the TV has an hdmi output then the adapter will provide a suitable signal for the monitor input.

I have connected everything but there is no sound what have i don't wrong?

If you have plugged in everything, inclusive of the 3.5mm sound lead, then it should work fine, if not it may be faulty. Double check the 3.5mm lead is going in to the green sound port of your TV, you may be in the wrong hole. Good luck.
