Philips Satinelle Essential Compact Hair Removal Epilator, BRE235/04

I just received this today, so I can’t vouch for how long the results lasts. I did shower a few hours before using, and shaved about 2 days ago. Legs have been tolerable. Don’t forget to pull skin taut while using. This does hurt, it feels like you’re being popped by tons of tiny rubber bands! My skin does have small red marks from the machine, another review said they will be gone in a day or so. So far, I like it. Especially excited to use on my bikini lines and upper thighs for summer. Hoping to minimize ingrown hairs and shaving frequency! Warning, be careful when going over stretch marks, that skin is thinner and it did bruise me some. I didn’t notice it being more painful in those areas but afterwards I saw the damage. Great price for someone wanting to try this out. Not cordless, easy to clean.

This thing works great and I can't believe I spent most of my adult life shaving. PRO TIPS for the one-star reviewers: 1) You HAVE to let your hair grow out enough for it pull it out. 2) If it is not pulling from the root, move it up or down a setting - you must adjust to fit your hair length/softness or courseness. 3) Once your hair is long enough - it IS going to hurt. And it will hurt bad. Sorry, that is just how it is. My first few times I took ice and would ice it as I was using the epilator. I am just a determined person like that, I knew once I did it a few times it would be easy-breezy, and I was right. 4) You have to exfoliate your skin before using! I use a glove and just do a quick exfoliation when I am in the shower on the day I am going to use epilator. It helps those suckers come right on out of the pores. A nice lotion afterward and my skin feels like a baby - not kidding. 5) I have been using mine for about 5 years and I feel nothing when I am using this thing. It actually feels good even. My hairs grow back baby-fine. So fine, in fact, they are blonde and you can't even see them. Under my arms they really don't even grow back now. 6) One of the best things is you don't have to pay $$$$ for someone else to remove the hair for you. No letting your hoo-ha hang out and be embarrassed to have it done. You don't have to shell out money and you can do it yourself for free. Razors are crazy expensive! I have saved literally hundreds of dollars doing this myself. As the title of my review states, I have a couple extra actually. I do not want to be without one if/when the one I have poops out on me. Good luck and hang in there - you'll love it.

Okay I’m breaking this review into two parts, for those looking for advice read part one, for those looking for a product review read part two! Part One: It HURTS. I read the reviews and thought people were being dramatic, they are not… but they also aren’t lying when they say it gets better. If you are planning on using this every where my biggest piece of advice is start with just the armpits, they hurt the worst so everywhere else feels like a breeze after. Take a HOT bath or shower before and exfoliate really well. It’s best to use the first few times at night. If you are of age grab a glass of wine or two and make sure you READ THE INSTRUCTIONS. Go slowly and take your time. I find it’s easier to do in chunks, rather than strips like you would shaving. One thing I wish I had done looking back is taking it one area at a time; I full sent and did pretty much my whole body and was SO uncomfortable. While you are here also grab some witch hazel for after, you will need it. I like T.N. Dickinson’s the most. ALSO if you are prone to hives/have eczema or other related issues BE CAREFUL, the first time I had a solid histamine reaction, if you have red bumps and swelling take a benadryl and give your body a break. Part Two: I am an epilator baby so this is the only product I have owned, but it gets the job done. I haven’t had any major issues with it grabbing skin and it’s relatively comfortable to use. It is corded, but the cord is long and flexible. It has one head and cleaning tools included. It isn’t the most ergonomic product out of what i have looked at, so if you have accessibility issues it might not be the easiest to use. My biggest complaint is that it is LOUD. I mean it makes my hair dryer seem quiet kind of loud, but other than that, solid product, arrived intact and haven’t had any issues more than a month later!

I tried a friend's epilator several years ago and made it through about half of my lower leg on one side before calling "uncle" - it was PAINFUL! This year, sick of shaving, I got my legs waxed a couple times, but haven't been a fan of the regrowth period in between waxing. I got this device to give epilating a try again. When I used it the first time, it was less painful than a couple years ago, probably because of waxing recently, but it still took me a couple days and numerous recovery breaks to be able to handle it. (I'm not normally a wimp when it comes to pain, but it really hurt. Perhaps because my leg hair is pretty thick?) Going over my legs again, a couple weeks later, there is far less hair and it is far less painful. I'm liking that I am able to keep up with the growth and can pull it when it's shorter than with waxing. I do have invisible stubble, though, from the hairs that are still too short to be pulled, so if I wanted to have silky smooth legs, I would still have to shave. The cord is a little inconvenient, but the product works well so far and that would be my only complaint. I would probably like it better with a rechargable battery, but for less than $40, I'm happy!

I was a little worried about buying this because the price is so much lower than other epilators, and I thought it would be of not such a good quality. However, after I used it, I am more than satisfied. Everything I read about epilators online and in these comments/reviews is true. It does hurt, it is uncomfortable, and you do get red dots on your skin after you use it. However, it is also true that if you read the instructions provided with the epilator carefully before using it, everything will be fine. I used it on my underarms and my legs, and both are smooth. My underarms hurt a little more than my legs, but nothing an average person cannot handle. I had a damp washcloth with me, and I pressed it lightly against my skin after I was done using the epilator to reduce pain and inflammation. It worked like a charm. If you are scared to somehow mess it up and hurt yourself, I would first recommend read the instructions carefully and follow them. Secondly, below I describe exactly what I did, step by step, so that you may know what worked for me. Also, I have attached a picture of my underarm the morning after I had used the epilator. 1) Plan to shower at night, as it makes everything easier (You'll see why later). 2) rinse the head of the epilator when you take it out of the package, and let it dry completely before you use it. 3) while the head of the epilator dries, read the instructions and safety warnings. 4) Shower - clean and exfoliate very carefully the areas you plan on using the epilator on. 5) No lotion - I usually put on lotion after I shower, but this time, I limited myself to putting on lotion only in the areas I was not using the epilator on. The areas I was going to epilate, I simply dried. 6) When you are ready, placed the dry head on the epilator and plug it in. Turn it on. 7) lightly grace the epilator over your skin. It will be uncomfortable as your hairs are being pulled out, but try to go as slowly as possible to avoid accidentally cutting hairs instead of pulling them out. 8) Go against the direction in which your hair grows. Some comments here say to go in the direction of hair growth, but the instructions that came with the epilator say otherwise. 9) after you are done using the epilator, or whenever you deem it necessary, turn it off and use the provided brush to brush off hair off the epilator's head. When finished using the epilator, rinse it under cold water again and let it dry completely before storing it. 10) Once you are done, if your skin hurts/burns, lightly press a damp washcloth on it (preferably cold). 11) apply unscented lotion to the area you just epilated, and massage the area. 12) if you do this at night and you epilated your underarms, go to sleep without applying deodorant. Let the skin breathe overnight. You will notice red spots show up after you epilate, but they will go away by morning (see picture attached). 13) When morning comes, assess the state of your skin and do whatever you think best for your well-being as long as it doesn't go against the safety instructions the epilator came with. I know it is scary, but if you take a deep breath and follow the instructions, everything will be fine. I am really excited to have less and less hair as time goes by!

I've been a razor user since my teens and didn't really give much thought to waxing, and honestly had no idea what epilating even was. All I thought waxing would do is hurt (!!) and simply provide a longer time before the stubble feeling returned and the hair grew back. To me it wasn't worth the trouble. But for a few years now I've started getting the "strawberry" marks all over my lower legs - the dark dots that are left after a shave, no matter what type of razor I use or how often I shave. I use tanning cream on my legs in the summer, and the strawberry marks made this look awful! I started exfoliating my legs more, but no change. Moisturized more- no change. I use Tend Skin religiously - never helped that issue. So I went down an internet rabbit hole and learned why waxing -- or epilating -- will get rid of these marks, plus make the hair that grows back MUCH finer, and dramatically lessen the amount of work and time it takes to be hair-free. I wasn't interested in DIY waxing - too messy, but I was willing to try epilating. I looked at a bunch of different brands and decided to go the less-expensive route because I wasn't sure it would really work. It DID and I will never go back to shaving- I can't believe I was totally in the dark about the benefits of ripping the hair out as opposed to cutting it lol. Be prepared - it hurts the first time, but ONLY that one time! Make sure you have 1-2 weeks of growth before you try it. A good way to lessen the pain is to also pull your skin taught. Once the first time is done, the hair will take a while to come back, it will come back extremely fine, and it doesn't come back all at once like with shaving. You will get random sparse hairs. So you epilate every time that happens, but it doesn't hurt then! I save time in the shower (I'm now working on my underarms and will eventually go for my bikini area- which will save me so much time!!!!), and I no longer have that stubble feel because the hair that comes back is so fine!!! And there's no need to buy the more expensive brands. This one is great - the head comes off to clean it, and the cord is super long. I like the cord so I don't have to worry about another charger sitting somewhere. I use it, wrap it up and throw it in a drawer until next use. Buy it you won't be disappointed!

Received the box without any outer packaging and it was completely dented and dirty. I was certain something had fallen out of the box, too, so I just returned it. I bought the product instead from the actual company for the same price even w/ shipping. However; the product turned out to be subpar. I had a remington for over a decade and the spinny wheel finally broke so I got this one. This new one is twice the price of what I paid for it; and I bought the remington at a pharmacy, and you KNOW nothing at pharmacies is cheap!! The pluckers are kinda powerful I guess; on my first use, it got most underarm hair efficiently. Not painful at all, but I'm an old pro, so ymmv. The little cover you put on for 'accuracy' falls off a lot when in use, but works well when it DOES stay on, but the accuracy cover seems to rub into the pluckers a lot so that can't be good. The tweezer head comes off a little too easily and is loose/has too much give in general, so I feel that's gonna break, and soon. It also doesn't POP off, it SLIDES, so I feel it's a design flaw and is just asking to be damaged. Not wireless, which I like because it has more power, but the cord is cheap and bends/kinks a lot. Kind of like the new Apple changers; has a rough feel to it, not sturdy. I have to hang it because wrapping and folding the cord will damage it. Not very convenient. One of these days maybe a better epilator will be out there for me. Will need to make do with this as long as I possibly can.

Very good, but really hurt to use it, just have that in mind :,)
