How are these compared to under armor base?

My son wears under armor and they fit snugger than the Carhartt. Carhartt fabric is softer and has more of a cotton feel than the athletic sportswear feel. The Carhartt does keep my husband warm. He is happy with them. Sizing is accurate.

Are these warm enough to be outside most of the day in 10-20 degree weather??? My husband wears long underwear under jeans, but doesn't like coveralls

Yes, Carhartt Men's Force Heavyweight base layer bottoms worn under jeans will keep your husband comfortable while working outside in cold weather.

Does the fly function? It looks sewn shut in the image.

Yes, the fly is functional on Carhartt Men's Force Heavyweight Thermal Base Layer bottoms. The fly is not sewn shut.

For best results should this be worn tight or loose?

The best really worm and don’t feel like there super tight I have 3 pairs
