MORE INFO on these tools
Nice tool. Highly recommended. Really clean cuts on stranded wire rope (everybody calls it 'cable' until we go looking for cutters and hardware.) MORE INFORMATION on Kinpex Wire Rope Cutters: Before you buy. Here is a link to the Kinpex company video on how to use this tool. It also contains information not in the product description. [...] There are two very similar Kinpex wire rope cutters. This is the less costly version. The other one has red and blue handles. http://www.amazon.com/95-62-190-SBA-Comfort/dp/B005EXOYXC/ref=sr_1_2?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1361222282&sr=1-2&keywords=knipex+wire+rope+cutter In the video Kinpex says it is ergonomically designed to reduce hand fatigue. I cannot confirm this, had I know before I probably would have paid the few extra dollars for that model. The Crimper feature on these cutters (according to the video) are for "end caps and end ferrules" which keep cable strands from unwinding and splaying. THESE CRIMPERS DO NOT WORK ON ALUMINUM AND COPPER FERRULES FOR LOOPS AND SPLICES. Like "steel cable" and "wire rope" there's some confusion here. Swaging is the general term for squeezing together the ferrules to make loops and splices. (I didn't know this and thought I'd find out if for 1/16" wire rope I might not need the extra tool. Hopefully I'll save somebody this step.) It also makes very quick and clean cuts of small diameter rope, string, and bungee cords. I've bootlegged wire rope cuts a dozen different ways--nothing is as clean as this tool. For piano wire 1/16" it's a little cleaner than using a bolt cutter, the cut edges are not square--more similar to bolt cutter marks, pinched with a ridge in the middle. For a lot of piano wire cutting the much smaller size of this tool is a plus. Now off to find a swaging tool.....(And there are three kinds of swaging tools, one type for copper pipe, another for what we're talking about here....My head's spinnning.)

Use them daily and they deliver
I work in a shop that requires cutting small steel cable all the time. We use Felco C7 that the company pays for. I bought these to give them a try and have been very impressed by them. They cut 5/32" cable very well and the edge seems to hold up well. The locking mechanism has not accidentally come open in my pocket yet. The crimpers work well on electrical butt splices. Overall a good product at a decent price.

These are excellent. Small
These are excellent. Small, sharp, powerful size to shear strength ratio. Years and years of using dull bolt cutters to snip braided steel cable, lord, what on earth was I thinking...? These are also Expensive. Dang. And,, worth it. - a total joy to snip through 3/16 braided steel cable, sssmooth and clean. Swaging on the other hand is not so easy, to crimp the aluminum swages onto the cable you have got to have pretty darn strong hands, or crimp close to the edge where the metal moves easier. That said, if you are doing this for stage or lighting work or working with 1/4 inch cable, you already know you'll need a big-#ss swaging tool... Safety first, over build and sleep tight at night! (2 more inches on the handles would be superb but I love how compact they are).

Superb Cutters for a Bike Mechanic
Everything Knipex makes is a work of art. This pair of wire rope cutters out performs the Wiss, Park Tool, and Klein cutters I've used over the years. They don't show the immediate wear on the blades that I've see with Wiss and other brands available in big box stores. These produce the cleanest and most consistent cuts I've ever seen on bicycle brake/shift cables, even on high end coated/hardened cables. Every little detail down to the locking mechanism exudes quality of materials, construction, and design. Convert to Knipex tools, they are decisively worth the price.

Not seen in any stores
I needed to trim 1/8" braided stainless steel cable (part of a cable railing system). I could have purchased this wire rope cutter from the same vendor who sold me the cable. But foolishly I thought I could find such an item at my local hardware store. Think again. I tried Lowes, Home Depot and Ace. Nada. Fortunately, I found it on Amazon at a competitive price. I don't know if this tool will stand up under heavy use, but I only needed it to trim 27 cables, and it handled that job very well, though it took both hands on the grip to cut through the 19-strand cables. The cutter left a clean, diagonal cut, with less than 1/4" of cable exposed beyond the railing end post. If you need a flush cut, this tool may not be for you. The instructions for the railing called for grinding off the excess cable. But the exposed ends were short enough that they fit under the decorative end caps, so I opted to forego the grinding.

Good cutters.
i used these to cut type 316 SS cable 1/8" diameter. Worked well; provides a clean cut. Probably made 75+ cuts so far, still looks like new and making good cuts. It takes some strength to make the cut but very do-able.

Good but expensive
Good when you receive a good pair. Had ordered a couple of these but some of them had burrs or simply needed more effort to cut 1.2mm stainless cables. Had mine for a while now and they hold their edge regardless. Would recommend for someone who cuts cables regularly only since they are expensive.
