The reason I'm only giving it 4 stars is because I think it may have accuracy issues. The angel's hat seems to partially overlap the opening in the collection tube, and I haven't been able to position the tube so that it's far enough away not to be affected. If the wind happens to be blowing from behind the angel's body, it could underestimate the amount of rain falling, but on the other hand if rain collecting on the brim of the hat is channeled into the tube it could overestimate. We just had a torrential rainfall that lasted over an hour, and when I looked at the gauge (which I had just emptied prior to the storm), it was filled to overflowing - it was a lot of rain but I question whether we really got over 7 inches in an hour and a half... UPDATE: Okay, it really is overstating rainfall totals - I tested it against another cylindrical collector. It rained again overnight, and the angel collected 2 1/4 inches, while the other collected only about 1 1/2 inches. My guess is that all rain hitting the front half of the angel's hat is being channeled into the tube.
