Why didn't I buy this sooner?
I've done several road trips the past several years and a couple have ended up in Wisconsin. I wish I had this the first time I traveled there with my uncle. He swore there was a road that runs right by Lake Michigan (there is and we found it), but if I had had this at the time I could have found it sooner. As it was, we took 2 or 3 exits before the uncle found the right road. Is this the perfect map? For my needs, yes. For my needs it is almost overkill, but I wanted something more indepth than the regular atlas and this series (DeLorme) was recommended. Needless to say, I now own maps for the states in the immediate vicinity of, and including, Illinois. Basically, if it touches IL, I own it, except for Indiana. And that will be purchased soon. But I have no complaints about this gazetteer. I haven't used it on a roadtrip yet, but I've buried my nose in it to get familiar with it and I really like it. Other reviewers have stated it is missing a few things. I cannot comment on that, as I am not that familiar with the state. It does, however, have everything I need, and that is more roads and cities listed. As good as regular atlases tend to be, it helps to have this.

Getting around on the back roads...
If you do any driving around in the back roads up north in Wisconsin, this is an invaluable tool that you should never be without. I remember traveling with a friend who had a GPS unit that was somewhat of a pain since you had to know exactly where you were (one would think a GPS unit would be able to determine that w/o input but I guess I'm expecting too much!) - & then it would label the roads wrong. I've used a Gazetteer for years & have always been happy with the detail involved. It shows what type of road/trail (so you can figure out if you really want to chance it, depending on your vehicle!), plus shows elevations, streams, lakes, etc. One square = one mile, so it's pretty easy to figure out how far you have to go to pretty much anywhere.I believe these come out every 4-6 years (forgot which), so it's sometimes best to wait for a new one, or attempt to get the last edition a little cheaper online. I'm not sure if they're available for every state, but they should be.

A Very Clear and Uncluttered Atlas, but missing a few things
It is a very clear and uncluttered atlas, but I reserve a fifth star because of the info that is missing that I think would be beneficial to the overall quality of the atlas. One, this atlas has not been updated since 2002, and it is apparent that the map is missing some sections of highway reconstruction in Wisconsin that have changed the roads in the past 8 years. Two, not all of the Rustic Roads are labled. Lastly, and I think the most important, there is not a city location page throughout the entire atlas. I think at least a page or two of city locations would make up for the other inadequacies. All in all a -very good- backroad atlas, but not without its flaws!

Great
Needed to replace my old one. I don't know why they don't print this anymore, I prefer it to the newer ones. Travel with the ring bound type and you'll understand.

Other than that the atlas is great.
Bought this for my husband for his birthday. He likes it but there are some updates that are not in the atlas. We camp and so bought for the ability to locate campgrounds and roads to them. There are some listed in the book that have been closed for many years. We will be contacting the publisher to have these fixed. Other than that the atlas is great.

Valuable resource
I had a previous edition (1980 something), of the same gasetteer. The improvements are striking. The text, and the maps are much clearer, and brighter. Also they have added the ability to punch in co-ordinates to a GPS, which of course will take you to an exact spot.Being a person, searching for "wilderness" type property in northern Wisconsin, this book is invaluable. One improvement I would like to see would be maybe include bike trails, hiking areas, picnic areas etc. Otherwise this atlas is a good investment.

Valued resource
Valuable resource, always use them on trips in addition to road map and GPS. Know where you are going on a map before you leave to be sure GPS isn't sending you off on a longer route or to Timbuktu...GRrrrrr ask me how I know!!! Too many times!
