The ultimate celebration of the hat. Renowned milliner Patricia Underwood presents a visually stunning and informative look at the transformative value of the hat. Featuring cloches, top hats, visors, wide-brimmed hats, berets, fedoras, turbans, trilbies, sun hats, and more, this spirited volume luxuriates in the multifariousness of one of the most diverse accessories. Underwood shares her inspirationsโfrom art, cinema, historical periods, and natureโas well as sharing her favorite hats. She also offers her readers guidelines on how to choose a hat. The bookโs lavish illustrations showcase Underwoodโs many years of collaborations with such top-notch designers as Ralph Lauren, Oscar de la Renta, Marc Jacobs, Isaac Mizrahi, and a host of others. Images are drawn from the designerโs own archive, as well as editorial work from some of the worldโs greatest fashion photographers, including Richard Avedon, Norman Parkinson, and Bruce Weber. This book is a must-have for any fashionista. Review: Millinery Book by Patricia Underwood - I used to work for Patricia Underwood.. many, many moons ago. So, if anybody was to find something abt this book to fault, it would be me. However, I highly recommend this book. So many good designers R gone.. Perry Ellis, Willi Smith, Woody Shelp, Ann & Marie Albrizio (Ann was my first Milliner teacher at F.I.T. in NYC), etal. but it is wonderful to see that Patricia Underwood is still here making fabulous millinery. We survived so much back in the 1980s.. & lost so many good people to HIV/AIDs. We made it. Though, not entirely unscathed. I will cherish this book forever. I also have Ann Albrizio's book as well. A toast to those of us who were fearless in our pursuit of our own Artistry & Craft. Cheers. Review: BEAUTIFUL - IF you love hats, I mean REAL hats, this is a beautiful book. and I do mean BEAUTIFUL. The pages even FEEL good, let alone look great.

Six Stars -- If I Could...
I have to say -- I LOVED THIS BOOK! It is oversized (perfect gift for a chapeau or fashion loving friend), and full of beautiful, full sized, color + b/w photographs. I knew the name "Patricia Underwood," and her hats... but did not really know her background, or the extent of her knowledge, inventiveness or contribution to American fashion. This book is a beautiful exploration of "where she came from," how she got interested in hats, and, really -- just how damn (sorry!) talented she is. As a fashion history, it also explores her relationship with the great designers -- Perry Ellis, Ralph Lauren, Oscar de la Renta, and others. She enjoyed long friendship/working relationships with so many designers. And shows how her hats contributed to their overall look going down the runway (much like Manolo Blahnik's shoes...) The book also contains sumptuous photographs of so many of her designs. Really beautiful -- and makes you want to go out and wear a hat! I would consider "Patricia Underwood" a must have for any student of fashion -- or, really, anyone who loves style! (I got lots of great ideas for putting an outfit together from its pages...)
