Great book and historically accurate! Instead of flimsy, romanticized medieval useless stories give them this and let their imagination take over!

I got this book for our daughter for her third grade year, for which we homeschooled her most of the year, because it was listed as a recommended supplemental reading under Common Core. It is, as others have noted, beautifully illustrated, and our daughter said that she enjoyed reading it and that there is a lot of interesting information in it. She didn't want to read it more then once, however, so it ended up in the donation pile. I'm not marking it down for that because I don't think it has to do with the quality of the book, but rather the nature of my daughter's preferred interests.

Really enjoyed reading this with my 7 and 4 year old. The art work tells a story in itself and adds to the narrative. I wonderful little insight to medival life.

This book will be used to supplement our history and literature Medieval studies in homeschooling two of our grandchildren. It will not tell you how to cool a Medieval meal, but tells the story of what goes on when a family prepares for for a feast. It's a colorful book, well illustrated, and I believe the children will enjoy reading it. In looking through it, I suspect my 7 year old grandson will be able to read it on his own with a little help on unfamiliar words, but I will probably read it to the children the first time.

This richly illustrated and informative book gives you glimpses of what a truly lavish royal feast in the middle ages was like. The illustrations are extremely rich with details, and the color scheme matches perfectly with the theme and the age in which the feast takes place. I learned many new terms and their relative usage. What an informative book on the customs of an age and society past!

We loved pouring over the detailed illustrations that were inspired/informed by medieval tapestries. A great slice of medieval life, especially for my daughter that is not all that interested in knights/princesses/dragons. The preparations for a feast is a brilliant way to get in so much info! Loved this one.

Love love love! I love the details in the knowledge they have. And the pages tell a story without any words . So you can describe and show your child so much on your own! Love it

When I purchased this book I thought it was going to be a recipe book, but it turned out to be a book about the feast that Medieval people enjoyed.

I purchased this book to include in our homeschool study of the middle ages. My boys range in age from 4 - 10. It nicely tells the story of what happened during medieval times when nobility travelled around and visited other castles/estates (expecting to be fed and entertained). It also described the actual feasting in detail. The illustrations are wonderful. My younger sons love to pour over all the details and ask a million questions. We have several books written by Aliki and they are all great. I end up learning quite a bit along with my boys (which makes it double the fun). I would recommend this book for the younger set - especially those with an interest in the middle ages (and who doesn't have that?).

This is a beautifully illustrated children's book, describing fairly accurately how a festive meal for nobles was prepared at the end of the Middle Ages. Aliki was inspired by medieval books of hours, tapestries and other works of art, making the colourful pages a joy to to look at.

This books gives a fascinating look into a medieval feast. All of my children enjoyed it. From the 14 year old down to the 4 year old. The pictures are engaging and exciting and encourage you to stop and really see everything on the page. There are some really disgusting (to us) foods mentioned in here which make the story very intersting. A great book!!!
