If I hung this on the inside of a door in a bedroom would it block the noise that is in that very bedroom from coming out into the rest of the house?

Yes. Draping the mat over the connecting door is exactly what I have done to limit the transmission of sound from one room to the other. It does not eliminate the sound completely, but does reduce the sound significantly.

What’s the effectiveness when there is a 5 inch space? As in 2.5 inches on either side of a window. Does it still block most of the sound?

If light or air can pass by the panel, so will sound waves. I would imagine that it would block a lot of the sound but is most effective with a complete barrier. I have used 2 overlapping panels on 'barn-door tracks' to block a 60" space. It has worked very well and the panels can slide either way to open the space.

Well that depends on the quantity of the product on my case I've ask for 3 and the box weight is about 63 pounds.
