Great gumbo in my life again!
I had pre-ordered this book because, well, fried chicken! My kids and I have sensitivities to several common foods, so we cook differently from most people. I wanted this cookbook because I have tried and loved many recipes found on the author's blog. Something we have missed the most in cooking and mealtimes is comfort food, food from the south! I've only had this book since it came out (over a week? two weeks?) but we have already made four recipes. First I tried the New Orleans Cafe au Lait, since I already had chicory root. It was delicious! For the kids I made the Mexican Hot Chocolate. And it's hot chocolate, so of course they liked it. For dinner a few days ago we made the gumbo; this was a food I thought for sure we could never eat again because the roux is what makes the dish, and we can't do gluten. Her combo of flours to make the roux works really well, and it tasted great. We had to use frozen okra because we live in Seattle, and fresh okra can be found in summer, but not easily. We did try two stores, but we are not about to take hours to search the city for fresh okra. At any rate, it was delicious, and we made her "corny" bread muffins to go with. We did not make the honey "butter" that accompanies the recipe, we had run out of time and energy. But the muffins were very good! They do not taste like corn, and I didn't expect them to, so I thought they were good. If you miss eating cornbread (because you don't eat corn anymore for whatever reason) and are expecting corn flavor from these you will be disappointed, so be realistic here. You can't make corn flavor from almond flour and coconut flour.Overall, I really like this book. There are many, many more recipes I want to try, like the fried chicken, crispy beef tacos, and the tortilla chips with salsa. I recommend this book if you miss southern food on your new grain-free lifestyle. Or if you just like comfort food!

Drool-worthy cookbook!
I preordered this book simply because I've followed Jennifer for about a year now and I like her. A couple months before it arrived I went from Paleo to AIP so when the book arrived I was a little sad that I'm unable to use some of the spices she uses (and I miss) right now. So I looked through the book and sadly put it on my shelf for another day. Yesterday, I was going through my freezer for something to eat and found some chicken wings that I was just going to season and pop in the oven but then I remembered her Cajun-Spiced Chicken Wings recipe I saw (no picture of her wings but the recipe made me drool all on it's own) so I grabbed the book and my wings and followed her lead.....I did not use the hot sauce or the cayenne or the paprika because they are not allowed in my diet but I did everything else (I also added a little turmeric) and OMG these are the best, crispiest, yummiest wings I've had since I don't know when. She found a way to make Paleo crispy fried chicken in the oven...Brilliant!From Breakfast to Dinner... Side dishes... "Nibbles" (you can find the Cajun Spiced Chicken Wings in there)... biscuits, muffins, pies & more for desserts and even drinks! So much to choose from! I'm not from the south so some of the recipes are new to me but even the recipes without pictures (I usually hate a cookbook without pictures for every recipe) are making me drool! I'll be trying them all just as soon as I can! By the way, the recipes with pictures....Oh Yeah, a sight to see!Even though, as I said, I am unable to use some of the ingredients right now this book has me inspired...not only to try new things but to keep going with my healthy journey! Thanks for this book Jennifer.......Oh and seriously? Paleo Pecan Waffles? The first recipe in the book? Man do I have to get my reintroduction's in quick! :)

I love to cook so started surfing the net for foods ...
Down South Paleo is just what this Texas girl needed. Just received my copy yesterday and I immediately sat down to look for what's for dinner! I made the Texas Grilled Rib Eyes + Marinade. It was absolutely delicious. Tonight will be New Orleans Jambalaya and Zucchini "rice".When my doctor told me to go grain free a few months ago, I felt totally lost as to my first step. I love to cook so started surfing the net for foods that met my new lifestyle. I found Jennifer's site Predominately Paleo, started following her journey and making her recipes. Oh yes....and pre-ordered her cookbook Down South Paleo. If you are looking for a way to begin a healthier way of eating, this will help you do it in such a way that is easy, tasty and still give you the happy foods that you thought were gone forever. Home Style Chicken Fried Steak + cream gravy, Mini Dinner Rolls + Grape Jelly, Paleo Blondies, just to name a few. Now I don't feel lost anymore, I am so excited with my new healthier lifestyle. The recipes are easy to follow and your friends will be impressed with your southern style delicious meals. Yeah, you need this book!!!

Amazing cookbook!
This is a phenomenal cookbook! I am new to Paleo cooking, as I was recently told by my doctor and nutritionist to cut out gluten, dairy, and corn and have had to relearn the way I cook. Not only are the recipes in this book just as good as their traditional-ingredient laden counterparts, but I would go so far as to say they are vastly superior! The Cinnamon Pecan Coffee Cake was the hit of a recent brunch pot luck I attended, and the Fried Chicken is amazing. I had some questions about sourcing ingredients and Jennifer Robins was so gracious about answering any questions I may have had. I was able to find Water Chestnut Flour at a local Asian market (but they sell it on Amazon as well!), and most of the other ingredients are easy enough to find. I really appreciate that I can make any recipe in this book without feeling guilt about the ingredients I use.Do not hesitate to buy this book - as a bit of a cookbook collector, I have already cooked out of this more than five times in the past two weeks, and it has quickly become one of the favorites on my shelf!

Paleo and Southern Foods Can Co-exist
What can I say? Who doesn't love fried chicken? Biscuits and gravy, anyone? Honestly, if you follow a paleo lifestyle and love southern cooking then just go out and order this book. Do it. You won't regret it!

YUM!!
This is by far one of the best paleo cookbooks I bought. I prefer my paleo meals with lots of flavor, compliant but not healthy tasting. This book did a great job replicating many traditional recipes. I sourced many of the ingredients from amazon.

Einfach lecker, gut illustriert
