The Cambridge Encyclopedia of the English Language

Bought as a gift for someone. Very nice comprehensive book that describes the history of the English language very thoroughly. Many references and sidebars to things like "where did apostrophes come from?" If you think you know everything about English, get this book and challenge yourself. You won't be disappointed.

Purchased this book for a Senior English class. It's the only book I did not sell back that semester. This is an in-depth look at the origins of the English Language. As well as having a great text, it's also a beautiful book, full of maps colored graphics relating to the text on the page. Would recommend to any P.O.E.M. member. :)

Many hours of enjoyable browsing await you. If you have a love of the English language and curiosity about its peculiarities,you will find it fascinating, even if you too occasionally mangle the language!

Just started on the journey of the English Language - great history book

The coverage was extensive and detailed. The numerous topics are well illustrated with textual examples and, where appropriate, with pictures and other visual materials.

It was insightful and easy to read. thoroughly researched, interesting and to the point without a bunch of useless or irrelevant information.

Awsome delivery service. The book is everything I expected.I totally recomend to everyone who want to deepen their knowledge about the English language or prepare good classes.

When I selected this book, I was under the impression that the book was in very good condition. When it arrived, I was disappointed by the condition. The cover was torn and tattered. There is obvious water damage along the base of the book. Although, the book is dry, smells fine, and perfectly readable, this is not the condition I would have spent $20 on. I would have at best rated this book in acceptable or good condition.

Like no other! The best one about this subject! Just Cambridge could bring us such good and trustable book! I do recommend it!

Some titles seem not sequential.

Me encanta este libro. Es muy práctico y tiene un muchisima información concentrada en pequeños artículos y muy visual sobre la historia del idioma inglés, sus orígenes, desarrollo, pronunciación, etc

Für jeden der die Sprache liebt, und damit sind nicht die Euro-englisch sprechenden gemeint, ist das einfach - ich benutze das Wort sonst ungern - ein „muss“. Die Flexibilität des Englischen ist immer wieder erstaunlich.
