**Q: Is the cast iron plate coated with a non-stick coating? One reviewer mentioned that it was easy to puncture the cast-iron coating, while another seemed to indicate that you could season this cast-iron plate like any other piece of cast-iron**
A: The correct answer is that they offer a choice of 3 different versions of metal plates. One is a non-stick and looks like a Teflon type coating on it. That would not require any seasoning. In addition to non-stick plate option there are also a cast iron version which does need seasoning. It comes covered in a light coating of oil from the factory but you should wash that factory oil off thoroughly since it's there just to prevent rust. After you wash that factory oil off then you need to go through the seasoning process.  The 3rd option is a cast aluminum plate. If you look carefully at the order page, you will see there is a drop down menu that allows you to select which version of the Grill Plate that you would like.

**Q: What exactly is the other side of the grill top like? Is it completely smooth on the other side?**
A: One side has 1/4 inch ridges.  The other side is flat with 2 circles about pancake size that take up most of the surface.  Neither the ridges or the circles are very deep, about the depth of the spatula that comes with the grill.

**Q: Where is this Rackette machine imported from?**
A: China.

**Q: Is the top solid cast iron or coated, please? i have read both.**
A: It's coated!!! I just ordered it after reading all these answers that it's not coated.  It is without a doubt coated and feels like there's a plastic layer on top.  We have several cast iron pans and saucers, and none of them are smooth to the touch like this is, even the ones that came seasoned by Lodge.  Arrived Sept 2018.

this raclette is THE best for small group entertaining or for a cozy evening for one ... it's not an 8-person raclette, but a definite 4-person raclette ... preparation takes time because of slicing, but it is SOOO worth it ... nothing better than relaxing with friends and grilling your food exactly the way you like it ... i've tried steak, chicken, pork, shrimp, salmon, but almost any meat would work. veggies: snow peas, asparagus, squash, potatoes, sweet potatoes, onions, mushrooms - basically any food you like, may be racletted (is that a word?). i've used cheddar cheese (mild and sharp), gouda, smoked gouda, mozzarella, etc., ...i put some sauces on the table, some garlic, the possibilities are endless - and limited only by your likes/dislikes and imagination! you can talk with friends, drink some wine, relax - and enjoy ... clean-up is a breeze too ... and for a single professional woman with a weight problem and no time to eat healthy/nutritious/organic foods - this solves the problem ... slice your food on the weekend, put it in zip-lock bags, and refrigerate, (or freeze, until you leave for work in the morning and take it out to thaw). when you get home in the evening, turn on the raclette, change into comfy clothes, and enjoy racletting in front of the evening news ... no need to cook more than you'll eat ... i absolutely love it - i'm thinking about buying a spare - just in case this one should ever quit working!
