The Vanderbeekers and the Hidden Garden

Great gift for adolescent that likes gardening and reading.

I read a lot of really extreme views- loving or hating. That’s the only two types of people motivated to write reviews, right?! Well. I read it first to make sure it was good for my daughter. The first parts were slow, with too many characters... I had a hard time getting into it. But BOY HOWDY, when I stuck with it I was pleasantly surprised. It’s a lovely story about humans in a unique living community experiencing love, friendship, and the day to day life. It’s wholesome. My daughter read it- she had a slow start as well but then stayed up until 10pm to finish. She then looked up the author, additional books in the series, wrote the author a letter, and we ordered the rest of the books. Compare all you would like to other books- but I think that’s a strange waste of time. It’s precious, unique, and worth the read.

Totally tubular

Our 9-year old devours these books. The second one in the series is just as good as books 1 and 3 (out now). It's got a great sense of family, drama, humor, and dventure. There's a dark enemy (but not scary), and the Vanderbeekers work together in their classic chaotic and wholesome way to vanquish their opponent. The end is uplifting, but it's the fun along the way that makes the book so great for young readers. Very good buy.

I’m always searching for new chapter books for my 3rd grader, and she loves this series so far! She was a little intimidated at first with its size but quickly loved the story and hasn’t put them down, always asking for the next one! So greatful to find a good book for her

This is a great family book full of love and city type adventures. It is funny and has nice life lessons. It shows real scenarios and how the characters get together to help each other. My kids love the book series. I highly recommend the book.

What an adorable sequel! I absolutely loved getting to read about the Vanderbeeker kids again. They’re such sweet and hilarious characters and I can’t help but adore their sibling bond. I also love their neighbours. Mr Jeet and Miss Josie are the sweetest and seeing how the Vanderbeekers have helped Mr Beiderman slowly begin to deal with his grief, had me tearing up. Herman was also a wonderful new character and his friendship and shared love of knitting with Hyacinth was so adorable. This book also made me laugh so much especially the scene involving sneaking a certain rabbit into a hospital. I love the series so much, it’s so heartwarming and I can’t wait to read the third book.

We love the Vanderbeekers collection! It's a great read aloud for our homeschool. My boys are aged 10-12 and they love it as do I! We are excited to read the next one!
