I recommend you wearing a face mask 😷 when using this product What I can tell you it’s a very strong cleaning product it works good on grease I use it for cleaning my stove, bath tub, chrome on my truck, glass stain on floors it remove stains on wall with a scrubber I will recommend on mostly every thing but not on medical equipment it cleans very well when leave over night to soak mix with water if to strong DON’T use on counter top service where u prepare food if use make sure to wash counter top very well does that Answer your question

Can I use this for mechanic's clothing in a washing machine??

I would NOT put it in my washer. Spray the zep on the worst grease stains, then soak in a bucket or tub - then wash clothes separate from others with a heavy degreasing detergent like DAWN. I've found that using these strong degreasers/stain removers can actually leave holes in clothes, so try one piece out before you do it to all of them.
