I bought a 2 liter had it personalized and now it is all black oily and moldy. What do you suggest??

If it's on the inside, the home cook method is to make a cleaning solution of 1 TBSP of baking soda to a gallon of water. Let the solution sit for 24 hours, then use a scrub brush to thoroughly remove the mold. Repeat. The winemaker method is to make a 1:1 solution of sodium bicarbonate and citric acid powder, scrub with a brush, then rinse thoroughly with water.

No, we do not use glue or nails

How many batches can you make before the barrel loses its ability to flavor?

You will notice a steep decline in each batch at first, but after say 4 times it levels out and naturally, the type of whiskey you age will play a big part in the end result, but I've done maybe a dozen batches and I can still put a more delicate Irish in mine and still get a positive noticeable result. Also, I did a barrel-aged Manhatten early on and I still get a nice sherry kick in my batches to this day. But if you really want that strong bourbon oak punch in the mouth I feel like I lost that big effect in 3 or 4 uses.
