Imbuing the bugs with human personalities, yet allowing them to remain “buggy” results in some humorous situations and conversations. Clever wordplay, for instance the chameleon spies named “Cloak and Dagger”, provides additional amusement. The battle scenes are exciting and suspenseful – young readers and listeners immerse themselves in the action on Bug Island.Jack Patton slips interesting, educational facts and observations into the text so subtly that they become part of the story and a reader learns something without knowing their knowledge is increasing. The vocabulary used in “Battle Bugs: The Spider Siege” is not simplistic and is another educational facet of the book. Illustrations increase this book’s appeal for younger readers and for youngsters to whom you may be reading.My grandson loves the Battle Bugs and I am sure he will find “Battle Bugs: The Spider Siege” as engaging as the first Battle Bugs book. Grandma has pre-ordered both other books in the series – “The Poison Frog Assault” and “The Chameleon Attack” – since no one can have too many books.

Great series, my 7 year old really enjoys reading these. It is truly great to have a book series about insects, so many kids love insects and the board books seem to be the only books available with a story. My son is an amateur entomologist and we have had everything from millipedes to dung beetles, so finding a series like this is a must.

My 8 year old loves this series. The writing does a good job of expanding his vocabulary along with capturing his imagination and interest. I also enjoy hearing the stories as he reads them. Looking forward to more of Max's adventures.

My son loved the Battle Bugs Series! He loved them so much he read through most of them in a day and has read them again many times!!!

My 9 y/o read through this in one sitting. Clean action that moves quickly and you don't have to read the whole series to get into just one book.

I love the fight seen and I also love the ending part when it talks about some of the bugs in real life
