The oil comes out dark coffee colored after 6K miles, not black, and still looks to have nearly the same viscocity. The engine got quieter and after watching the Project Farm "Oil Shootout" where the two top oils were Amsoil and this very 5W/30 Pennzoil, I stopped using the Walmart equivalent oil, and immediately saw much less burn off over the life of the oil and the puff of blue smoke at cold start up my car has always done, greatly reduced (not sure what the smoke is from, but the car has done it since day 1 and has not been a problem at all- it's hardly noticeable). This is a wonderful oil, so you can almost count on it being cheapened as the price increases over time. **Q: What is the shelf life?** A: Provided that you keep the cap on the jug, it should be perfectly fine to store it for as long as fifty years, regardless of temperature. Keep the jug out of sunlight, though, because the plastic will break down on exposure to UV. **Q: Does this mean that I don't have to change my oil For the duration stated on the label? I'm having a hard time with this.** A: No. The label just means if you used this oil it's gonna do your engine good for that many miles. You will still change your oil however often your car owners manual tells you to. I use this oil and I change my oil every 7500 miles. **Q: How often should oil changes be made?** A: On traditional oils about every 3,000 mile. Blends around 5,000-6,000 miles. Full synthetics can go as along as 10,000 miles. Make sure to change the oil filter at least every other change if not every oil change. I do not use Penzoil only because it can take 2 months to receive.
