This is a great product. Being able to steam things in the microwave has been a game changer for me. I steam potatoes all the time. The capacity is good—I have steamed four Yukon Gold potatoes at once, and it can probably hold almost twice that amount. It’s quicker and easier than steaming food in a pot on the stove and is easier to clean. It works great except it can be a little tricky to snap it shut. The trick is to push down on the red flap as you snap it closed. It feels reasonably well made (it is plastic) and I hope it is durable. I’m concerned about the locking flaps breaking off eventually but I’ve been using it for a few weeks now with no problems. Even so, I think it would work fine without the locking flaps. I’m very pleased with my purchase.

I got the Systema Microwave Steamer a few months ago and I absolutely love it! It has a good capacity for me and would likely have a great capacity for most people/families (I'm vegan so I eat a ton of veggies). I use it nearly every day at least twice and it cooks like a dream! The only time it's ever not large enough for me is when I'm doing food prep for a few days, other than that it's a perfect size. As for the reviews that say they can't get the lid to snap down on the sides, whenever I have an issue where I can't get it to snap I just spin it a 1/4 turn and it will snap. I have never had it not snap at all. I think that the steamer is not perfectly square (even though it looks square) and the lid just needs to be turned when you can't get it to snap. ***This may not work for everyone, as your steamer may need you to figure out exactly which lid side matches up to which base side or yours just may not fit right at all. I am only basing this on my experience with my steamer and I hope it helps others.*** I also recommend being careful with the steamer when you remove it from the microwave because the steamer itself will be hot and the steam will be hot either from the steam release on the lid or from removal of the the lid. Use hot pads, oven mitts, or a towel of some kind and stay safe. I say this merely because a lot of people don't have experience with steaming food and may not be aware of how hot steam can be, especially if they don't cook a lot or have been in the kitchen helping someone else cook. If you are in the market for a steamer, this is a very good choice and, if you choose to buy it, I hope you will be as happy with it as I am :)

Green salads tend to upset my stomach in the morning, so I started looking for an easy way to enjoy steamed vegetables instead, and that’s what led me to this product. It’s fairly large, so you can steam a generous amount of vegetables at once. As shown in my photo, it works well for root vegetables too. As other reviewers have mentioned, the lid doesn’t always snap into place properly. There are four locking tabs, but usually only two or three actually click in. That said, it doesn’t bother me much and I just use it as is. Overall, it’s very easy to use and I’m really happy with it.

Received this yesterday a day early. We have Prime, ordered it Saturday morning and it was at our door Sunday afternoon. My husband has never encountered a veggie steamer and was pleased with the overall design and ease of use. We have a couple Sistema salad bowls and they work great and are designed similarly to this product. The flip lock closures on the sides are golden. We filled the bottom with a cup of water, any more will touch your veggies. We cooked a yellow squash and it came out perfectly. My husband was shocked at the quality of not only using fresh produce but the vast difference between the frozen veggie steam bags from the grocery store. What was great is that we can put only the quantity of veggies that we need since my daughter is 5 and refuses veggies, so it's just my husband and myself to eat them and we usually have soggy leftovers from frozen veggies. I was able to take the container right out of the microwave with bare hands on the tabs at the corner. I flipped up all four locking tabs and was able to use two of them to open it and deflect the steam from myself. These are easy to clean, hold up well and can definitely go in the dishwasher. I don't think it came with instructions, but my husband found a cooking guide for this specific product and told me you can cook a lasagna for 6 in it.

Love how easy this veggie steamer is making my green eating life. Hubby asked to order it and we've been using it to thaw and cook the frozen vegetables - in the case of attached pics, one of our favorites, grilled frozen cauliflower - in the microwave. We have also used it to cook thawed frozen fish in the microwave too, and while it doesn't taste as great as when cooked in the oven, it's still an efficient way to eat when in a hurry. The steamer is ideal for the vegetables, with the water draining out completely and the container being great enough to store in the fridge if need be for left-overs. The lid snaps nicely in four places. Very sturdy. A little air pump in the middle allows it to work well in the microwave. And the red is such a nice bright color. Practical, efficient, easy to clean manually or in the dish washer and a great little product. Fantastic buy! Eat your veggies, no excuses :) I hope this helps you decide!

I create mixes of different veggies every day and this provides a great way to steam them in the microwave. I can put in thawed vegetables or frozen ones, works great for either and no mess, easy to clean up. One note: In order to clip the top on easily click on the corners of the latches for the best results. Sometimes pushing in the middle of the latches does not lock them but pushing in one both corners works every time. Highly recommended if you steam a lot of veggies.

This is a good quality. Thick and sturdy. The inside basket is strong and it holds quite a bit of broccoli. My only complaint is that there are no handles. When the water underneath that is used for steaming is hot it is difficult to pick it up you really have to wrap two mitts around it to take it out of the microwave. My last one which was made by Tupperware had handles off to the side and I never burned my hands

I got this to cook rice, because our Asian-style rice cooker stopped working ㅠㅠ Instead of spending tons of money on a new cooker or burning rice on the stovetop, I decided to try microwaving it. Sistema has a rice steamer too, but I figured the steaming basket in this one would come in handy some day. The only differences I can see are the shape of the container and amount of holes for steaming, which doesn't make much of a difference overall. How to cook rice in this steamer: 1. Pour in desired amount of rice 2. Rinse and drain 2-3 times 3. Pour in water according to instructions on the rice bag, or use tip of index finger to measure from the top of leveled rice until water reaches halfway to the first knuckle (crease)--most will tell you to measure to the knuckle, but my mom taught me otherwise for jasmine rice 4. Optional to soak 30 min for fluffier rice 5. Microwave for 5 min on high (100%) or until you see bubbling from the steam, switch to 50% power until you see bubbling, then 30% until total cooking time totals 10-12 min. You'll know it's done steaming when you tilt the container and the rice doesn't slide. 6. Leave to rest 5 min, then fluff with fork before serving. If rice is still a bit undercooked, add 1/4 cup water and microwave for another 2 min on high, repeat if necessary. This worked well for me, but can get a bit messy from the bubbling steam (makes something like rice paper on top of the container hah). I have a lot of Sistema containers and particularly like the ones with the steamer hole. Overall, very satisfied with the purchase.
