Works Great with Electric Garden Sprayer & Dedicated 1 gal Tank
I do a lot of spot spraying in our yards using herbicides, and I've found that the as-purchased spray wands that come with the common one gallon herbicide containers quickly clog, and the spray pattern quickly deteriorates as the typical AA Alkaline batteries lose charge. My current approach, which I've been successfully using for over a year, is based on adapting a Li-ion battery-powered spray wand (from Tovia on Amazon) for use with the standard 1 gallon insecticide/herbicide containers with 38-400 neck finish (cap thread). By having a dedicated container for each chemical, I avoid the problem of cleaning the spray container at the end of each job. To prevent clogging, I use a custom-built large-area screen filter on the wand-tube's inlet that is positioned at the bottom of the 1-gal container and use a custom-built funnel with integral 40-mesh strainer when filling the 1-gal container (see photos). This December I decided to green up my 700 ft2 dormant-looking lawn for the holiday season using a quart of the Lawn Star Grass Paint Concentrate (diluted 1 cup per gallon of water) with my electric-wand sprayer setup. For my dedicated green-spray container I purchased from Amazon a Mountain West's 1 Gallon HDPE f-style container with 38-400 neck finish and filled it with water and a cup of Lawn Star grass paint. As others have noted, it's a good thing I used my filter funnel, as the paint concentrate was quite liquid (no gel as some others have noted), but was filled with a lot of what looked like small dried paint shards that would quickly plug a sprayer (see photo). With my filter and strainer precautions, I had no plugging issues at all in my application. The battery-powered spray wand with Li-ion rechargeable battery worked great to apply the grass paint...a vast improvement over the everyday spray wands and pump-up sprayers. Since my lawn is surrounded by cement patio on two sides, I considered various alternatives to keeping the paint off the patio. In the end, I found that the spay wand was quite easy to control with only inches of overspray, so I wet just a foot-wide boarder of the patio with a sprinkler can to prevent any small overshoots from drying, and at the same time keeping the added water off the lawn. Then, I quickly washed any overspray incidents away with the sprinkler-can as soon as they occurred (only a few, and typically only a inch or so wide). I was nervous about the amount of paint to use for my pretty dormant-looking lawn, so I started by scalping it using my mower's lowest setting and then raked the driest areas pretty thoroughly to remove excess thatch. When I started applying, I though I was going to need more than four cups of concentrate for my lawn, but after adjusting the wand for the best spray pattern, I ended up using just 2 1/2 cups of concentrate...and the lawn looks great with great grass-looking color (see photo). At the end of spraying, I quickly emersed the spray-wand inlet into a 1 gallon tank of wash water and ran the sprayer for a few minutes to thoroughly wash it out. What I found is that the spray and concentrate dry almost immediately and stick tenaciously, so any cleanup of preparation aids (cups, funnels, preparation surfaces, etc) needs to occur immediately! I wore old painting clothes and covered pre surfaces with plastic...which worked well. In the end, a great looking lawn for Christmas and no paint spills...highly recommended.

Great product.
Awesome product. Followed advice of another reviewer and bought 2 bottles when I "thought" 1 would do the job. Real glad I did. It took the 2 to do my 1000 square ft. lawn. One thing to know, the lawn will no be PERFECT as I thought it would. The yellow areas of lawn will still not be the deep green as the areas that were still green and I think all our lawns are patchy. I would guess another bottle could be used to go over those lighter areas to make them greener. Another thing I would do is cut it shorter than I did this time. Cut it as short as possible. We're told to leave our lawns longer when water is scarce so the sun can't penetrate to the roots. Well when the lawn is yellow I'd guess that's already happened. Only reason I'd do this is to eliminate the high and low look from previously yellow and green areas. Like I said it doesn't look perfect but from my neighbors perspective it looks GREAT. Had an audience while doing it and visits with questions afterwards. Overall I'm happy with the product and their customer service. They contact you to see how things went and if there were any problems. If there were any they'll do whatever they can to help. I will be buying this lawn paint next year. I suggest anyone with yellow lawns do the same. You won't be sorry. Only down side is the coverage like I spoke about. Larger bottles should be offered at a lower price because you WILL need at least double or more of the product than you anticipate for good coverage.

Clogging - Too Thick
I just got my @ss handed to me on this homeowner project. I thought this is an easy task for the front yard for the dead winter yellow grass. Absolutely not. I mixed the recommended amount of paint and water. I go outside to start spraying a sample section and then start the front yard and Iโm clogged. I have used many liquids in my backpack battery operated sprayer and have never been clogged! I take apart inside and try to flush it out. I dump some of the solution in a bowl and try to add more water and stir it the best I can. Back outside and clogged again. Bring it in again and run hot water through the sprayer. Got green paint everywhere. Had to clean up every splatter the instant it landed. The sink started leaking green paint water and Iโve never had a leak. So cleaned that up. I ended up outside and dumped half of the solution in the yard. Poured hot water in and tried again now that Iโm diluted maybe 75% beyond what was already recommended and dilutedโฆ still nothing comes out for more than 15 seconds before being clogged again. Iโm sweating and the sun starts to set. So Iโve sprayed five feet maybe in total. The entirety of the yard is untouched. Iโm physically sore and wasted half of a weekend day. The yard still looks dead. By the time I water this down 95% beyond recommended dilution to maybe get it through the sprayer will it even stain the yard? Never trying this again. Leaving nature as it was designed and going ti clean my house or do anything but ever spray my yard green for winter again.

STRAIN THE PAINT BEFORE USE!
STRAIN the paint when pouring it in you pump spray! There are chunks of I don't know what in the paint. Im using the sprayer that was recommended with this product it was pretty cheap, but I had to take the hose out and unclog it many many times! Other than that it worked really nicely. My yard looks better and it took hours for me to do. Wish this product was cheaper cause I'm pretty sure I won't be doing this again. Not really worth it. Update: I bought another bottle. Three bottles total. Bout 60 bucks. I did my yard again for good measure. The stupid srprayer kept clogging, even after I strained all the paint twice. I couldn't finish my yard I was sweaty and pissed off b4 I finally gave up. For me this Is definitely not worth the buy. I could save more money just by watering everyday for three months. If anything, a good sprayer could change my mind maybe. My yard does look better of course.

It works as advertised!
So, I am a fairly new resident of the great state of Texas. One thing that seemed odd to me upon moving here was the lack of yard irrigation. I purchased a brand new Bardominium, and there were no inground sprinklers? When I got my first water bill, I immediately understood! I live in the country, so keeping the weeds out is a losing battle. My wife is really not so picky about the yard, but it gets pretty brown. So, I thought I would give this product a try. I got a cheap backpack sprayer from HF for 24 dollars and figured it would be disposable. The product is 32 ounces and makes roughly 4 gallons of spray. I was pretty stingy with the application as I was looking for better, not golf course perfection. The coverage was decent, though at the price point, it would cost well over 100 dollars for the product to do my whole yard. My wife thought the idea was a little crazy but was impressed with the results. I would highly recommend this product for smaller lawns, and I imagine the spot product also works great. Some things I learned: 1. The directions say to wet adjacent concrete in case of overspray. DO THIS! It is so easy to rinse off, but it is a pain on dry concrete. 2. Fill the sprayer with a little water, add the product, and then add the rest of the water. 3. Wear clothes like you would if you were painting because that is EXACTLY what you are doing. 4. A piece of cardboard makes a great barrier when up against the concrete. 5. DO NOT WALK ON CONCRETE AFTER SPRAYING; YOU MAY LEAVE FOOTPRINTS. Well, I'm guessing you might; I wasn't that absent-minded. :) 6. If you get any on your hands, it will clean up with soap and warm water, much like latex paint. 7. Immediately flush your sprayer, and you can use it again! Honestly, the pictures really do not show the actual difference. I thought it looked way better with the naked eye. I was torn on the star rating because of the price point, but I figured that was on me in the end.

So glad they make this stuff!
After the first application of weed and grass killer I applied along the side of my driveway and lawn did nothing to get rid of the weeds, I used another product, getting a little over zealous with it. I sprayed it right up to the edge of my yard and a week later I ended up with not just dead weeds, but a lot of dead grass. After looking at it for a week and realizing it wasn't going to grow back any time soon, I started looking around for some way to fix my mistake. Something that would make a brown lawn green again. And it turns out, they make green paint for lawns! I bought a jug of this Lawn Star Grass Paint and a Chapin 20000 Poly Lawn and Garden Sprayer to spray it with. Everyone in my family looked at me like I was crazy to "paint" the lawn. But in the end they were impressed, just like I was. The first coat looked okay, but the second coat was what really blended it all in. Two thin coats work really well to cover brown areas. Thing to keep in mind. This is very watery paint, it will drip if you aren't careful. Take a flattened cardboard box with you to set your sprayer on while working with it or the sprayer may drip paint all over your driveway, sidewalk, patio, etc. I just used the Amazon shipping box that came with my sprayer. Also if you're spraying right up next to something like a sidewalk or driveway you'll want something like a flattened box to hold up in front of the area that's not grass, or you might overspray some of the paint onto the driveway/sidewalk. While it's not always going to be the exact same color as the grass in your yard, the green blends in far more than large brown areas. I'm so glad I found this paint. It looks so much better than the dead grass along the side of my driveway.
