Firstly, the digital kettle is worth the extra over the simple on/off the 1st generation provides. It collapses down just like the pictures show, the plug is removable (and the socket is covered when collapsed), and is a typical IEC320 computer plug; the cord is rather short ("for safety"). I tested the base heating plate, and it is grounded. The only issue I have is the location of the socket, being opposite of the display side and not below the handle means it might get splashed on more easily when filling up, especially from a tap. It stands solidly and confidently - equally so when pouring. The lid handle stays relatively cool and can be expanded for use and collapsed when storing. The first several times of heating do result in a strong silicone smell, which the instructions say to boil and discard several full pots to clean and remove the odor. It took me over a half dozen tries to remove enough odor to be comfortable with. When plugged in, it defaults to off, displaying so much on the screen, and the right On/Off & Fn button is used to switch between the modes. To change from Celsius to Fahrenheit, you hold the left Temp/Adj button while the water is boiling - inconvenient in a way, but not something most will do often; it retains that setting even when unplugged. And to cycle modes, simply tap the right On/Off & Fn button, cycling from Off to Boil to Keep Warm to Self Clean and then back to off. Easy peasy. The "keep warm" function let's you set a temperature from 30C/86F to 90C/194F and it will hold that temp for up to 24 hours, which is not only great for having hot water ready, but ideal for perfect tea brewing. I haven't yet cleaned it, but will be doing so before storing it away; it's a matter of adding 3-5 tablespoons of white vinegar and 0.6L of water and switching to the appropriate mode, which will boil for a few minutes, then you rinse out the kettle several times. Despite using spring water, the buildup is marginal. We got this for a recent trip and used it multiple times each day. It's been reliable and boils a bit faster than our kettle at home. It's surprisingly enjoyable to use and seems reliable with the temperature (which I will be testing soon for consistency). I will update this review in a number of months and/or if I have any problems.

I live in a small rv and space is at a premium. I had an old, cheap, overlarge plastic kettle which I’ve used for a few years. It wasn’t super efficient, at 900watts it would draw my solar-charged battery bank down from 4-6% to boil my 2 cups of water for coffee every morning. It was ok, but I’d stand over it like a hawk, waiting for the boil so I could shut it off asap and save energy. Plus it took up a bit more room than I liked. I finally looked for an alternative. I wanted a smaller diameter, height wasn’t the issue. I saw this Gourmia kettle and it checked all the boxes and a few I hadn’t considered. Collapsible. Nice, but I nest my MyJo coffee press inside my kettle so no advantage there. Keep warm function with adjustable temp. Super nice for making tea. Lower wattage. Awesome. The metal heating plate is almost the same size as my old kettle, which was much wider. When I plugged it and started watching the battery monitor I was overjoyed. It was drawing 700w vs over 900 for the old one, and it boiled so much quicker. It only drew the battery down 1%! Wonderful. Every little bit helps when you’re off grid. The digital temp readout is great. It shuts off automatically at 212F. You can change it to C if you want. It has a self-clean mode that allows it to boil longer to descale. I really like it.

I love this travel electric kettle. It needs only 5 minutes to boil. Super fast. It's good for travelling along with you. It's compact and easy to use. All you need just to push the base of the metal part, It will stand to 2 cups of water. I like the temperature display feature, so I know when the temperature is reached. The only issue I have is smell of the rubber. I am worry it is toxic for a long term use.

Really like this kettle. collapses into a small size. I got it to use when I travel and so far it has great. Works well for heating enough water that I can make two cups of coffee with my aero press. The kettle get the temp almost spot on to what you set it at. Seems to get the water to temp quickly as well. The spout pours the water well. I did read that some people get a taste in the water but, I have had no such issues. Over all a great kettle

I originally bought this kettle to bring with me on my travels. I typically travel light on a carry on suitcase and a backpack, so it was a bit disappointing at how big & heavy it was even after collapsing the kettle. I should have payed more attention to the dimension and weight before purchasing. With all my trips cancelled due to the pandemic, I haven't taken it on a trip yet. But, I decided to keep it because my home kettle broke around the same time I got this. I've used this kettle everyday for the past 6 months to make tea. It works great, I like that I can easily monitor and control the temperature with the digital display, it boils quickly, and there is no weird taste at all.

Love it, very compact and easy to use. Pack it for any and all trips we take, local or away.

Update: It's been almost 5 years since I first bought this, and I'm still using it on an almost daily basis. For a while I was using a water cooler with a hot water tap, but in less than two years it quit working. So I went back to my trusty hot pot. I clean it with white vinegar occasionally, and it's still like new. Definitely one of my favorite purchases! I got this little hot pot to use while staying in hotels, while moving across country. It has been such a great asset! Not only do I use it for coffee (I use Via packets), but I can sterilize my cups and shaker bottle after rinsing them in the hotel sink. It heats up quickly, and can make two regular sized cups of coffee, or a tall travel mug (20oz). I love that it has an LED readout of the temperature, and a removable cord. The handle adjusts, so when you collapse the pot it collapses, as well. I store mine in a small thermal lunch bag, which is convenient when the pot is still hot. I’m very happy with this purchase, and I’d buy it again. For under $20, it has paid for itself. I don’t have to buy a cup, or drink stale hotel room coffee.

I returned this item after my the first trip with it. First, it is heavier and bulkier than I had hoped. That would have been ok if it had worked well. Second, it was hard to pull it out of "collapse" travel mode into extended mode for heating. That too would have been ok, in annoying had it worked. But the third point was the killer: it released sheens of oil and white substance into the water I heated. I didn't believe it was the pot at first and thought perhaps the tap, but no: I tried filtered bottled water and the same happened. Even with bottled water, the hot water the pot produced looked awful and tasted like chemicals. And I can't even think it was healthy. Total misfire of a product.
