Review: VERY nice pan, does the job superbly - Lovely. Well made. Nicely coated. No seam. Fairly heavy but not overly so, and easy to grip edge/end bits to handle it with a potmitt. It just produced a nice looking set of donuts with a defined middle hole... spouse is busy doing Quality Control. Wish I would have bought a few more so I didn't have to lightly wipe off and let cool between batches. A definite recommend. There is a recipe on the back of the cardboard sleeve that is lightly glued in place (pulls off and roll/rub the glue off) around the middle of the pan. I love that this allows me to make baked not fried donuts, spouse loves that they're DONUTS. Easy easy cleanup, should give me many years of use with a little care not to damage the coating. Do treat this as a 'dark' pan for baking times. Not quite like fried cake donuts, but close enough
I was hoping to turn out something very close to typical cake donuts, but you aren't frying the donuts so they won't be like typical cake donuts. That being said, you can make some pretty tasty baked donuts with this pan. The texture and results remind me more of small rings of swedish almond cake though. The shape isn't perfectly rounded when I make them, but close enough. Even though they weren't quite what I expected, they are still good and round and my 2 year old daughter still calls them donuts and doesn't know the difference. I like having control over what goes into them, knowing they aren't fried in fat and trying new flavors. Almond was a BIG hit here, lemon was quite tasty and I'll be trying pumpkin soon. So, the nitty gritty of the pans themselves: The pans work perfectly and I didn't have to season it like another reviewer mentioned, just washed it before using and made a batch of donuts. They are sturdy and heat evenly, the nonstick surface allows the donuts to pop out in 1 piece perfectly. I bought these and the Norpro 3980 12-Count Nonstick Mini Donut Pan , the mini donuts turn out rounder than the larger ones, but both were loved by my daughter. Helpful hint: After they are baked and cooled slightly, with freshly washed hands rotate the donuts in the well about a quarter turn and the donuts will release and fall out perfectly when flipped over.

Perfect Doughnuts
I was trying recipes from Deceptively Delicious: Simple Secrets to Get Your Kids Eating Good Food and needed a donut/doughnut baking pan. This one had some good reviews but I still wondered if the doughnuts would stick or not. Well without even using any cooking spray they worked fine on the pumpkin doughnuts and the doughnuts released perfectly even while hot. Cleanup was also a breeze. This pan comes with two basic recipes: Chocolate Cake Donuts and Cake Donuts. You can adapt the recipes to suit your needs. One thing about the recipes is that the yield for the cake doughnuts is approximately 36 mini doughnuts so if you only have one pan that is going to take you three times longer to bake them. The chocolate cake doughnuts yeild 24 so you still might want two pans. To make perfect doughnuts I put the batter in a gallon-sized plastic bag and cut off the bottom tip as directed in the recipe book. It worked fairly well and the doughnuts had a perfect shape once cooked. I'd suggest you buy at least two pans because most of the recipes I've found make 2 dozen doughnuts. I've looked for additional recipes here at amazon but have only found a few doughnut books. If you know of any others please leave me a note in the comments section. :) Thank you! ~The Rebecca Review P.S. I tried the vanilla cake doughnut recipe (except I only made half - 18 doughnuts) that comes with these pans and it worked great except use half the salt it calls for. The doughnuts stuck a little while still warm but come out of the pan much better when slightly cooled. The only problem is they don't give you a recipe for the frosting. So here is a strawberry icing recipe I made up today: 1 cup confectioners' sugar 1 tablespoon strawberry jam 4 tablespoons whipping cream 1/4 teaspoon vanilla 2 drops red food coloring Blend all ingredients until creamy and smooth. I use a spatula but a wooden spoon works well too. To make a plain vanilla icing just omit the strawberry jam and food coloring. This will frost 18 doughnuts. Double the recipe if you need icing for 36. P.S. 2 - I made the chocolate doughnuts and they stuck like crazy. I had to put them in the freezer to cool them down then they came out of the pan OK with a small spatula that I ran around the doughnuts. The second batch was much better because I oiled the pan. So do use the non-stick spray or oil of your choice and you will have better results. The chocolate doughnuts are fairly bland without a good icing so here is the icing I came up with: 1 cup confectioners' sugar 2 tablespoons cocoa 4-5 tablespoons whipping cream 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract Blend everything together with a spatula and ice doughnuts when slightly cooled. They ice best when they are still slightly warm. This will frost 24 doughnuts.

Donut-shaped Cakes
First off, since this is a review of the pan, I can say that the "Norpro 6-Count Nonstick Donut Pan" works great. It is good quality, light but not lightweight, and works as advertised. The "donuts" baked as advertised and popped out of the pan with nary a care or worry. Great pan! On the whole concept of baked donuts however ... I can't really say that what comes out of this pan are what I would call donuts. I love donuts, and was excited to try these, but they don't taste anything like donuts. They are essentially donut-shaped cakes. Nothing more. I have tried several recipes, including the recipe that came with the pan, but none of them taste like anything else than regular muffins and cakes in a donut shape. I would say that these are like vegetarian "hamburgers" or non-alcoholic "beer." You can get pretty good substitutes, and they satisfy a craving for those who want them but can't have them for whatever reasons--diet, illness, etc. But they aren't hamburgers or beer. Just like these aren't donuts.

Great product - love baked doughnuts!
I wasn't sure how much I would use this pan but I have a cooking blog and I read a lot of other ones and I kept seeing yummy looking recipes for baked doughnuts, so I decided to get one. This was a great purchase! So far I've made Spice Doughnuts, Strawberry Doughnuts and Lemon Poppy Seed Doughnuts and they've all turned out delicious. I lightly mist the pan with cooking spray before filling with batter and the doughnuts slide out perfectly after baking. I've never had any trouble spooning the batter into the spaces, which you should fill about 2/3 full to get perfect sized doughnuts. Every recipe I've made so far with this has been quick and easy and it was nice to be able to bring healthier doughnuts to work instead of the fried kind. Great product!

Works perfect for cake like donuts at home that are baked not fried
I ordered 2 of these pans because I wanted to make a dozen donuts at a time. I decided on the more expensive Norpro pan over the less expensive Wilton Nonstick 6-Cavity Donut Pan because of all the rave reviews. I now think that the Wilton would have worked just as well and is probably the same pan with a different brand stamped on it. I say this because some reviewers said that this pan is seamless, which I believe it was when they purchased theirs, but other, more recent reviewers, said that the pan does in fact have a seam now. They are correct, the pans do have seams at the lip, but it didn't hurt the look or texture of my donuts. These aren't fried, so there's no way to have a perfectly rounded doughnut. The doughnut is going to be flatter on the top regardless. So, I just flipped my doughnut as you would a cake and glazed the pretty side. The pan only came with a spiced doughnut recipe, which wasn't what I was looking for, so I looked on the internet and came up with the following recipe. They were quite tasty, but were meant for the mini doughnut pans, so it only made 8 of the larger donuts and I just cooked them a little longer until a toothpick came out clean. I dipped them in the glaze while they were still warm and they looked beautiful. I did butter the pans just to be safe and the donuts slid out perfectly leaving no residue behind. Chocolate Cake Donuts (from the label of the NORPRO Mini Donut Pan) Donuts 1 1/2 cups flour 1/3 cup unsweetened baking cocoa 1 tsp baking powder 1/8 tsp salt 2 eggs 2/3 cup sugar 1 tsp vanilla 1/2 cup milk 2 tbsp butter, melted Glaze 1 cup confectioner's sugar 2 tbsp HOT water Preheat oven to 325ยฐF. Combine flour, cocoa, baking powder and salt. In separate bowl, mix eggs, sugar and vanilla until thick. Combine milk and butter. Alternately combine egg mixture and milk mixture with flour mixture and mix until smooth and soft. Spray pan lightly with cooking oil. Fill with batter 2/3 full. ( Kitchen Tip: Use pastry bag for easy & clean filling!) Bake 8 minutes. ( They can take up to 15 minutes to bake. ) Cool. Carefully remove. Repeat with rest of batter. Frost or glaze.

Found at last
I've have baked doughnut pans Wilton and one Norpo. The Norpro pan is a little bigger than the Wilton both are top notch pans. I only Started out with one pan the Norpro pan. By the time I wanted more pans I only found the Wilton pans witch I bought a little smaller great pan tried to find more Norpro pans. I just did happy ordered 4 more. My baked doughnuts are a hit at the senior center, and all my friends like them to. I had a lady say they was the best dougnut she ever had. Having more than one pan for me is a must I make Large amounts at a time . When I tell people I make my own doughnuts and baked to they are surprised. If I could I would order more pans. There the best they hold up nicely. I've had my other pans a couple years so far. what ever size pan you want is up to you. Baked doughnuts are a hit at our bake sales at senior center. I can't say enough about these pans.
