As soon as Christmas is over, we load our belongings into the car and make the three day drive down from Boise. This past year we bought a hybrid, and because of the limited trunk space, needed an additional storage option for all of my wife's shoes. The Rooftop bag was a good choice. It held everything we needed, with room to spare for questionably useful makeup items, glitzy high heels, and expensive, but rarely used hair products.The only drawback to the bag, was the atrocious sound it made during our first fifty miles. The wind created a god-awful whistling noise that cut through my head like a banshee. The pain in my ears was nearly as bad as the damage to my ego which was caused by my wife's constant, sideways, blame-filled glances. She didn't say anything, but I knew what she was thinking. "You bought this thing." "You loaded it onto the car and tightened the straps." "If I have to spend three day listening to this, you might not make it all the way to Texas." So, fearing the shiv of a high heel to the neck, and in desperate need of salvaging my pride, I stopped and made some adjustments. Fortunately, they worked! When we got back on the highway, the noise had dropped to a noticeable, but entirely bearable level. I panted with gleeful, pride-filled satisfaction when my wife patted my knee, scratched me behind my right ear, and whispered, "Good boy."My advice to anyone purchasing this bag is to make sure the straps are adjusted properly before setting out on the highway. Perhaps take a test drive with the loaded bag, and make adjustments, as needed, before setting out on your journey. You (and your wife) will be glad you did. ### ⭐⭐ Very secure, but got holes *by W***Y on September 15, 2017* We took a 1 week trip from Idaho back to Wisconsin. We encountered no rain on the trip, thankfully. We hauled the luggage of two of our college-age kids in it as the joined us out west just for the ride back home. We loaded up the top with the luggage they wouldn't need during our trip, so we did not regularly open and close the bag.We did check it each day and each stop to be sure it was secure. We had no issues with the straps and it staying attached securely to our roof rails and crossbar. We had only the rear crossbar mounted as the bag was larger than the space between the crossbars. We picked the rear crossbar as the one to leave mounted in case the straps weren't able to hold the bag without a load shift rearward while driving at 80 mph in Montana and other states out West. After using the bag, we are confident that the bag would not have had a problem with load shifting.We did use a non-skid mat under the bag to 1) protect the roof from scuffs and scratches while mounting the bag, removing the bag, as well as putting luggage in and out of the bag, and 2) to prevent the bag from slipping or sliding while driving. We bought this one based on the excellent reviews. But had we known it would not even hold up for the week, we'd have bought a cheaper bag for a one-time use.If we were to do this again, here's what we would have done. We would have also purchased a small tarp with grommets and used secondary straps to secure the tarp tightly over the bag. This way, an inexpensive tarp would get the holes, not the bag. ....or so we hope it would work this way.In summary:1) We were very pleased with how secure the bag started and remained all through a week long trip driving at 80mph.2) We were disappointed that the bag got holes in it and needed repair along the way to prevent the holes from getting larger.3) If we had to do this again, we would use a small tarp over the bag to protect it.I am giving the bag a 2 star rating for the security of the bag, but not more than that due to the holes worn in the bag so quickly. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ It works great, if you pack it right *by L***S on August 15, 2018* I packed my 11cu ft bag with 4 queen sized blankets, 15 foam square floor mats and a folding chair. Strapped it to my 2009 Camry and drove over 500 miles of California freeways (including the Grapevine) at speeds up to 85 mph in 100 degree temperatures.There was some buzzing noise I think from the loose excess straps above 80mph so make sure you secure the loose ends. The bag itself held up beautifully. The bag material is thick and the straps are very strong. I'm glad I went with the 11 cu ft and not the 15 which would have been comically large on my Camry. I recommend packing the front of the bag with something solid and full that will hold the box shape of the bag up front and avoid doing what I did in the picture. That air pocket ate up my gas mileage. I re packed it so the front was tight and down, touching the roof and it was much better.I highly recommend Roofbag if you need extra storage.
