Pfister Pressure-Balanced Cartridge for Tub & Shower Valve, Genuine Replacement Part for 0X8/JX8/VB8/JV8 Valves, Standard Stem, 9740420

This Price Pfister cartridge worked out great. We were not getting hot water, at least not consistently nor for very long. This is a single unit as opposed to older units that are two pieces. Make sure you know which unit you have by Part number before ordering. Just shut the water main off, open all the faucets in the house to let water drain out and replace. When you disassemble the old unit make sure you cover the drain if you drop any screws. Just take note of the position of the old unit and make sure you replace the new unit same way. Its really an easy fix. Save yourself a plumbers visit $175-$250 and tackle this one yourself. A little suggestion: if your not getting hot water from the shower check your sink in kitchen and bathroom to make sure those faucets are getting hot water; if they are that way you know the bath faucet is probably defective. Causes of lack of hot water are mineral deposits and debris blocking the hot water passage. A plumbers trick is to soak the unit in vinegar for 24 hours to clean it out but for the relative low expense of this unit its probably better just to replace it. The best thing was I only waited 2 days for it to be delivered to my front door. If I went to a local plumbing store probably would have paid $30 -$40 instead of what $24? Love Amazon!

The tub faucet in one of my bathrooms developed a slow, annoying drip after about 10 years. I took the faucet apart looking for a bad o-ring, cracked part or something. Everything looked good to my untrained, amateur eyes. I even used some CLR on all the parts as Google told me that could be the cause of the drip. I ended up deciding to just replace the whole cartridge as a last resort before calling in a plumber. I couldn't find the ones I need at either of the national hardware chains where i live. Thankfully, I was able to find it on Amazon and was extremely happy with the price. When it arrived, it was simple to swap out the old and put in the new. The leak stopped IMMEDIATELY! Very happy with the product. This is actually the second one I have purchased, as another bathroom developed the same issue and I knew immediately what to do. If you have a slow drip, just save yourself some time and swap out the cartridge.

Not sure if it is the plumbing or this, but once installed, with the direction facing up that is on the device, the water temperature is opposite of the way it was. Hot is down now where it used to be up. Not worried about that because this works great. My original one went out so I replaced it with one from our local hardware company for way too much money. It made all sorts of noises and was not smooth in turning. It went out as well. I couldn't find a local replacement so bought this one. This is smooth, quiet, and makes a lot better adjustment to the temperature balance. Very happy with this compared to the last two. Appreciate the great product and hoping that it lasts for a while.

I bought this because my shower was dripping and had little to no hot water.It took 10 minutes to remove old and install new one.So far so good.No more dripping and I got nice hat water.

I had a leaky shower and the orginal valve had the vavle stem and mix cartridge as seperate peices. Originally i decied to try to replace the cartridge and get new rubber seals for the original valve stem. However i found that to be a bit of a challenge as i had to guess all the correct seal sizes for the valve stem. At some point, i just gave up due to time and gas wasted trying to visit all the hardware stores. This option was ideal because it made the replacement MUCH easier, new mix cartridge and valve stem all in one... less to deal with and less chances for any possible leaks, etc. Local plumbing specialty store wanted $55 Local hardware store wanted $40 Amazon... $20 (reasons like this is why I am considering going PRIME) The Good: - easy 1 piece design, installation took minutes The Bad : - plastic valve stem feels cheap. When you grab the shower valve handle, you feel the plastic give. Youre almost afraid to apply a significant force in fear of breaking it - new design isnt compatible with similiar but older Pfister shower valves (which was my case). Using this new valve saved tons of time and headache over getting the right sized rubber valves.. however it came with an unintentional trim kit upgrade... much to my wifes enjoyment.

Replaced our leaking two pieces valves with this one-piece valve and everything works great. However, does not seem to let as much hot water through. We have adjusted the valve adjust piece as much has it allows, but still just not the same as before. I had already thrown all my old stuff away before really noticing this, but I think that it is just the old adjustment insert has a wider range on the old one. It is not that much notice, but if you like really hot showers, you may notice the difference. I would buy this again, so everything stated above is not a game changer for me. It stopped my leaks, and I thank them for that.

Just like the original and much cheaper than the knock-offs available at the major home improvement stores. Just a word of advise when installing: The cartridge is adjustable for more or less hot water, so don't put all of your hardware back on until you've tested to see if the mix is right for you. And if you need to make adjustments, don't forget to turn your water off again!

Before ordering a replacement, I turned off the water and opened up the valve to see what was in there. We had the old, 2-piece design (971-250 + 974-291). Water was slowly dripping out through the control stem, and while I pretty sure the Valve Stem Assembly would fix that problem, the O-rings on the other part were pretty worn. I decided to order this instead of paying more to replace both pieces. The fix was quick and easy, and so far it's working well. No drips and it turns nice and smoothly. The only hard part was cleaning off all of the mineral deposits that accumulated while it was dripping (I used lime juice and gentle scraping). Everything is good as new, and for much less than calling a plumber.

I had replaced the original cartridge that lasted more than 18 years about 2 years ago with a cartridge made by another company (MOEN). It was much stiffer to turn the handle and lasted a little less than 2 years. It started making the pipes vibrate or shake when set at certain temperatures (the hotter the worse). Since I've installed this PFister cartridge, it is very easy to turn and I have no more pipe vibration or shaking. It was very easy to install and so far I am very very satisfied with this cartridge. Would definitely recommend.
