Are they defective or am I doing something wrong?** A: I have had no problems using these thinning shears. I watched some YouTube videos on how to groom small dogs. After you have almost completed your cut job, hold the hair up with a comb and snip with the thinning scissors. These are to give the fur a natural look and blend the blunt ends to not appear blunt. Small and tapered so they fit well around the face but the tooth count makes them a true thinning shear, not a blending shear. In betwen grooming sessions his hair gets long and im afraid to use scissors and cut him.** A: Yes. I use thinning shears under my cat's neck to reduce the length and bulk of the fur that gets caught in her mouth while grooming, without it looking obvious. I notice which areas of fur go in her mouth and then I make several snips there using the thinning shears. It makes a big difference and isn't too noticeable visibly. These really work great. My only complaint is they stick a little bit when trying to open them. But I will take it in order to have a product that WORKS!
