Arm yourself with knowledge that can save a life. Review: EXCELLENT BOOK that does exactly what it is designed to do.. - I am a retired military guy and combat veteran, familiar with many First Aid books, procedures, and styles. I found this to be an excellent book, in a compact form, that surpasses most other "fundamental" use-in-the-field "First Aid" books on the market. I like it so well that I have purchased both the paperback and the Kindle version. This book is laid out to allow the reader to easily find various topics and specific subject material in a very expedient manner. The first section after the "Introduction" discusses medical equipment and supplies for long-term storage and also for hiking or bug-out-bags. Other sections have in-depth descriptions of many medical conditions that one can expect to encounter at home or "out in the sticks". Additionally, The Survival Doctor frequently covers various options to deal with the specific problem at hand, to include the "pros" and "cons" of taking or not taking specific actions to solve the problem. Not only does he provide options, he frequently provides his educated opinion as to the probable outcome of using various options so that the reader can make a better-educated determination of which course of action to choose. Frankly, I find this to be a very sophisticated and informative book, written in everyday layman terms, for medical emergencies that one could expect to encounter away from medical facilities. It measures about 5" x 7" x 1/2" and can easily fit into a cargo pocket or many 1st Aid kits. I highly recommend this book for novices and the experienced. I will probably purchase more so as to have one in each of my medical bags, kits, packs, and vehicles. It is certainly a book that others should consider buying.. Review: Great emergency guide - I bought this and a couple other like it to put with my hurricane kit. I realized that although I have the supplies I might need for basic medical care during an emergency to go along with a decent amount of CPR and first aid training, that these would come in handy. Both as a refresher or guide during a stressful situation and as a supplement to the training and experience I have. Its small, easy to carry around if you're hiking or traveling. It contains a lot of info in a small package but is easy to read and easy to locate the info you need quickly.

Practical Help for Preppers and Others
Being familiar with Dr. Hubbard's extremely helpful blog, The Survival Doctor, and being a nurse for over 43 years, I looked forward to this book. I found it full of practical first aid advice but so much more. It is written so it is easily understood by a lay person, and it has the added benefit of having other helpful information for prevention of illness and injury (not common in "first aid" type books). This includes tips to prevent injury from cold, preventing snake bites, decontaminating water. It is concise but definitely enough information. I love his list of supplies and how he notes alternatives to the usual pre-packaged ones on the list (example: popsicle sticks as an alternative to tongue blades). One thing I did not find, which I think might be a good addition, is something about the eye. Dust or sand from blowing wind can be irritating and some first aid related to that might be useful. All in all- great job, Dr. Hubbard. Nurse Laura

Great information in this book
Great information in this book, extremely well put together, and cover's most (if not all) of the major medical emergencies that Jon Q Public might encounter. An essential item for any hiker's backpack or prepper's go bag.

A must have in every house, and every first aid kit.
I bought this book with the intention of keeping it in my Bug-out bag along side my IFAK. I have read this book several times to familiarize myself with most potential injuries. I keep it with me in my EDC. This book also covers necessities one might find necessary in and emergency scenario. It gives you suggested items, along with a minimum amount to have or carry. This book is more than a first aid manual, its an urban survival manual without all the tactical mumbo-jumbo stuff. This is family oriented, to survive both injuries and catastrophes of sorts. I suggest that every home have at least one of this book, and read it frequently. The more you read it, the more it will help you out. You can't simulate scenarios where you will implement this knowledge for practice, so frequent reading will be your best option.

Perfect book! Need more copies!
I love this handy book and already consulted it for help with my kids. The writing style is awesome: very well organized thoughts, clear instructions, easy to find information (there are printed side tabs for fast reference as well as a TOC and index) and he manages to add a personal touch without hindering the information. For me it does include more sophisticated treatments for minor and more serious basic first aid. There is plenty of new treatments here along with a list of materials needed for their use and clear instructions. I have three kids (preschool age to teenage) and have gone through a lot of bumps, bruises, doctor, and ER visits, yet there is still new information here. The Doctor even includes a few easy homemade remedies for when you may be stuck and unable to run out to the store. Great, great, great!

No Doctor around....this could save someones life, especially when you least expect it!
This book has some of the best information at a moments notice. I have this book in my BOB, along with the recommended items to assure myself to be prepared for any emergency....especially if you are not within driving distance to a Hospital or Urgent Care Facility! This step-by-step information can help you or anyone with the knowledge of what to do and how! Whether a deep cut, broken bones, hypothermia or just a sprained ankle.....you will have the confidence to do what is needed to be done. I believe this will come in handy, especially when the SHTF..... For the information it has.....it is worth its weight in gold! I highly recommend this for everyone.....including a few Doctors I know!!!!

Solid First Aid Manual: Buy it!
I bought two of these for my emergency kits and have read it cover to cover. I plan to do that again. This is solid first aid information that is usable. The author provides lists of the equipment one should have for various kinds of first aid kits depending on the scenario in which they would be carried and/or used. He's also got a very good blog that I've started following. I plan to buy two more copies of this book so I also have it for EDC and one for my wife.

Informative AND interesting . . .
Yep, it is good. Although written for the American market it will "translate" easily enough to save lives/reduce medical deterioration without being too wordy/terminology heavy. Very well researched/experienced based. Good to have written information with regard what NOT to do in situations as well as what to do. Gets a Five!

Four stars: A solid first aid pocket manual!
The good: A decent field manual for basic first aid instructions. As described, it has suggestions for alternatives if lacking the ideal item(s) to utilize in specific first aid situations. It also emphasizes the items and situations that require specific training to prepare for; folks shouldn't worry about trying to be an EMT in the field without the training and experience required to safely do so! The book steers the reader into handling the emergencies as best as the situation and materials afford, then advises looking for a medical center/hospital for comprehensive treatment. Sound advice! The bad: Nothing. The ugly: Nothing. Not sure if this will become a permanent addition to my field first-aid kit. It is a nice enough size for a field guide, truly pocket sized, and the chapters are easy to navigate. It is fairly well laid out though something about the organization isn't perfect, at least to me. I'm not sure how well I'd be able to navigate the book in an actual medical emergency, ie. if I became buffleheaded but kept the wherewithal to pull out the guide. I'll recommend this book to anyone looking for this information; at the minimum, it makes for a good reference for home preparation and companion to other sources.

Good but go for the larger version by same author
Very useful, with clear, easy to read and understand information but on reflection I should have bought one of the larger, more comprehensive manuals by the same author.

Content seems decent although Im no first aid expert and (thankfully) havent had to use this. My biggest gripe is the fact they could easily have used a less spread out font and smaller margins to make this book even more pocket friendly. I bought this to cary in my travel bag so size/weight is a priority and I feel like they could have easily made this book about 1/2 the size with the same content without making it unreadable.

This book is not really written for "survival" as the first aid information is rather basic and each section starts with the same advice of "call 9-11" I did not learn anything new from this book.
