Fast shipping, great product
I ordered this for our pet rats. We have four girls and three boys, so we go through a lot of food. I haven't had time to get to the pet store, so placed the order online. I realized that the price is slightly lower than in store prices in my area and I love how fast it arrived. This is my rat's main food source and I absolutely love this brand. Our rats love it and we've never had a problem with it. Overall this is a great buy and I would highly recommend!

Healthy and Delicious!
I researched everything I could find about good food for the rats (we have 4) and I'm sure you all know how picky they can be. I decided to try the "Oxbow Regal Rat" food for it's complete nutrition and mix the "FM Browns Tropical Carnival" in for variety. Keep in mind my rats wouldn't eat anything but the "goodies" out of the store bought Kaytee Fiesta diet we have had them on. First of all both the Oxbow Regal and the FM Browns Tropical Carnival smell good, even to me. Sounds funny but you know rodents use their noses more than any other sense. Have to be able to smell what's edible in the dark, dude. So if I think it smells like catfood and fish meal, the rats are going to find it even better... Second - the Oxbow is very similar to cat/dog food kibble instead of the giant soy nuggets in every other bag of food you find at the pet store (and no ones rats eat those, do they?) Why pay for stuff your rat doesnt' eat? I mean, would you keep buying dog food that tastes so bad Fido won't eat it? And complete nutrition! I have always worried about my rats getting their vitamins - I want them to live long healthy, happy lives. Third - The FM Browns Tropical Carnival is mostly seeds and "some" cereals and "few" dried shrimps, but it smells good and see above for my take on that. I know some folks have said not to give their rodents seeds because of too much protien or fat or whatever, but hey, these are American rats! We like some potatoes with that dry as a bone baked chicken breast and no-butter green beans. As long as the majority of what their eating is the healthy stuff, let them have some "junk food." First day with the new foods mixed together, stirred into their old stuff: the rats all picked out the new Oxbow and left the old Fiesta Max in the bowl! Hey Mikey! He likes it! I normally will give my rats fruit and veggies every night for dinner on top of their kibble (and a piece of candy, shame on me) but I have to admit the other day I completely forgot to feed them. Next morning the rats were, of course, hanging from the bars of the cage like "feed us, we're starving!" but they had been picking through the Oxbow/FM Browns mix I feed them and there was very little mess. Good nutrition, good price, available when you want it, and the rats like it. What more could you want?

Wonderful Rat Food; Follow Instructions!
Our rats love this food. But follow the instructions. We found that when we scattered the food in the bottom of their cage, in the bedding, they ate it much more avidly than just placed in a bowl. Apparently scavenging for it makes it much more palatable! And stick (mostly) to the fruits and vegetables as additional food. Seeds, Nuts, and Grains are great treats but we have learned from our mistakes that too much of "special" foods leads to dull, overweight rats. We didn't even have to put them on a diet, just changed it, and they lost weight and perked up and now maintain a good weight and have a bouncy demeanor.

Speaking for the rats....
Gus said, "I generally grab the Oxbow and hoard it, along with the Mazuri cubes. I prefer to eat fresh food. But it's nice to have something to fall back on .... Assuming Laslo doesn't plunder my stash, the twit." Laslo said, "My pen mate doth protest too much. He wasn't gonna eat that other stuff anyway, and if he wanted to protect his hoard, he should hide it better. And don't listen to anything he said about the vet weighing him 80 grams lighter after a couple of months. It had NOTHING to do with my, uh, borrowing his Oxbow pellets." Fawn said: "My owner drops the Oxbows all over the cage for me to 'hunt and gather,' so I do. When push comes to shove, I eat 'em -- especially when my owner cuts off the food supply to get me hungry enough to eat yogurt stuffed with yucky-tasting medicine. Don't need meds, don't want meds. I hate the vet. But Oxbow is okay. They say it has all my nutritional needs met. Hmmph. I still prefer cooked salmon and yam balls sweetened with brown sugar. Yum. Hey, was there medicine in that yam ball?" Ears said: "First, I want to object to my owner changing my name from Dot to Ears, just because I'm the so-called 'Dumbo' breed of fancy rat. Nuff said. Oxbow's good stuff. I'll eat it as a snack, but since I know my owner is cooking up some REAL food, it's never my first choice. I'm SO glad she doesn't take the writing on the box seriously that says something like 'Complete nutrition source for your rat -- you need not feed anything else.' Now THAT is a dangerous piece of advertising." Flo said, "Our owner didn't rename me, 'Ears'. Ha! I was Flo, and I'm still Flo. And I like Oxbow. But like Ears said, it's kinda my backup food when I'm hungry and need to hit my stash of hoarded pellets. Some Mazuri, some Oxbow. Oxbow's kinda nice because they're sorta heart-shaped, while Mazuri is like a block of ... well ... Mazuri-stuff, I guess. My owner gets upset if I accidentally bite her taking an Oxbow out of her hands, cuz they're smallish compared to Mazuri cubes. But by mealtime, I'm hungry, so all civility goes out the window. I'm a rat, hear me roar!" Xena said, "Flo, Dot, and I came in to our owner's possession in the same cage -- we were rescued from Austin's animal shelter from certain death. And my name stayed the same -- until the vet techs decided to nickname me "Xena the Warrior Rat," after some TV show. It's got a nice ring to it, doesn't it? Oh, yes, the Oxbow. Oxbow okay. I eat it when I'm done with everything else. It's on the same level as, uh, day-old lettuce. If I have a choice, I'll eat the Oxbow instead of the wilted lettuce (which is usually on the verge of being thrown out of the cage anyway by my fastidious owner). Oxbow keeps longer than lettuce -- but I'm not sure that's a total plus. They say Twinkies last for centuries. Hmm... " Oliver is out being fostered by a friend, but we (the owners) left the foster parent with plenty of Oxbow and Mazuri. Our two late rats, who passed away this year (Showboat and Snowplow) also liked Oxbow. We have three rats that we captured from Garrison Park in Austin and are using Oxbow to help socialize them and get used to eating out of our hands (without actually EATING our hands). We've named them Striipe, Spott, and Starr (named after distinguishing features on their fur pattern). Once they learn English, they'll post their own reviews of Oxbow. Should be interesting to hear. Keeping in mind how PICKY rats are (they're totally snooty aficionados), you might not get immediately buy-in with Oxbow, but once they get the hang of this full-nutrition food, they ... uh ... hoard it, pretty much. Unless they're REALLY hungry and can't wait for fresh food. Then all bets are off.

Rats love it
This is one food that none of the rats Iโve had over the years have turned down. I have tried other brands and even the young rat food (itโs all they have at my local grocery store), but this food is the favorite. I included a video of a few of my babies stuffing their face with the food.
