Review: Seems to be well made and just the right physical size for my application. - Disclaimer: I live in NW Oregon (north of the 45th) and tested during June 20-22, your results may be different depending on where you are, time of year and how well pointed the panel is to the sun. :) I'm creating a portable power station in my car to power my portable compressor fridge/freezer. I'm setting it up to charge a dedicated LFP battery from both the car (when it is running) and solar when it is parked. First there are the physical space constraints on the roof, with a radio/sat antenna sticking out of it in the rear and a moon roof feature that takes up 2/3 of the roof from the front windshield back. Second one must consider the weight of anything 'put' up there as well as how to attach it to the roof. I started with ONE of these 50W panels and 4x65LB rubber coated magnets. While this SEEMED like it might work, the reality was that the wind from driving around could catch the panel and while the magnets did not get 'unstuck', they were able to SLIDE on the roof making a 'tent' with the solar panel in the process. :) I decided to instead go with 3M VHB tape with additional Gorilla tape (to protect the VHB tape) all around the edges and a bit in the center. After some testing I found that my fridge/freezer would draw ~32-38W and during my testing period the best this 50W panel would put out in my application was 35-40W, with 40W being a 'peak' as reported by my Victron Solar controller. So basically a DERATING of %10-15 for the panel. I can live with that. (it seems NOBODY ever UNDER RATES their panels do they? LOL!!!) Surely while the Fridge/Freezer is not active 24/7 and during whatever daylight/sun the panel might be (and was) able to keep up with the Fridge/Freezer at least during the short period of time I was getting the maximum output. The rest of the time (and surely overnight!) my LFP battery was getting drained. So having accepting the %10-15 derating of the first panel and having unique space requirements I added a second panel of the same model. Together in series today I was able to get a peek of 70W out of 2x50W panels. (50W panel *0.85*2=70W) I started with a 10Ah LFP and quickly realized it was not enough so swapped in a 20Ah battery and now I have a 100Ah battery on order. (just in case) :) Frankly I wish the only attachment method I have WAS NOT semi permanent as IDK how these panels might hold up being driven around on top of my car! Added note: the box that this came in is EXCESSIVELY HUGE!! This equates to lots and lots of cutting to break down so it might fit in my recycle container. :(
Review: Nice Thin Panel! - Seems to work just fine so far. No, its not cracked…its the clear protective layer! Outputs ~35w in direct, full sun just as expected. Good specs, industry standard MC4 connectors. Super thin and light. Nicely mounted output block. Hope these have some life span in the full sun useage. Time will tell but at this price, one cannot complain. >>Update 2024-10-03: Bought a second 50w panel to run in series to one of the two solar/XT60i inputs on my Ecoflow Delta2 Max. Changed the MC4 connectors to 30A Anderson (seen in the last pic) which are much more compact. Since this is a purpose built, dedicated setup, I am OK with the non standard connectors. I *could* get 2 more panels for a total of four since there are two XT60 inputs. The lightweight, compact size makes for easy storage in the car! Added a pic of the nice, secure packaging they come in.
