An innovative knitting process
The innovative technique detailed in this book opens up a whole new world for knitters interested in creating more realistic 3-dimensional knitted animals. I realized that you do not have to wet felt the animal. You can use any knitted and stuffed creature and go right to the needle felting which the author describes in great detail. In fact, the more than 25 pages of needle felting instructions are the best I have found in any book. The picture I have included was a pattern from a different source to which I added Arnfield's needle felting techniques. This book will be a classic in any knitter's library.

Excellent Patterns and Easy to Follow Instructions
Felted Animal Knits: 20 keep-forever friends to knit, felt and love by Catherine Arnfield is a very well put together must have pattern and technique book.In having made several felted animal toys this year, I was hooked. I was very pleased to come across this book because it is so very well put together. The author has made what can seem daunting and un-achievable to beginners so much more feasible with her carefully put together imagery and word. You will find 20 adorable animals to knit and felt. These animals are as follows; mice, dachshund, alpacas, lion, pig & piglet, koala, squirrels, Schnauzer, highland cow, rabbit, raccoon, seal & seal pup, cat & kitten, owls and fox. Note that some of the patterns you'll be making more than one animal if you counted what was featured and the number of animals didn't line up to twenty.I love that both wet and regular felting instructions are shown in explained in vast detail. I like not having to go and research any of the techniques knitting included to make the adorable creatures in this book. There are tips throughout and many full color photos to guide you every step of the way.All the projects have rating levels so if you are completely brand new you can start at the beginner projects and work your way through the book.I am very pleased with this book and highly recommend it.

Detailed Instructions to Create Adorable Projects
As a knitter, I’ve tried to learn and try as many new techniques as possible, just to keep the knitting interesting. Years ago, I knit and felted bowls; that was as far as my felting techniques went. When I saw the cover of Catherine Arnfield’s Felted Animal Knits, I fell in love with the little creatures she’d created through knitting and felting. (If you click on this link for the book entry at Search Books, you can see some of the adorable critters. Click the arrows at the bottom of the page to move through the pics.)Felted Animal Knits is far beyond anything I’ve accomplished in felting, but the book has so many graphics, pictures, and detailed, step-by-step instructions that I think any knitter can take this on.Each pattern is given a difficulty level and while I’d personally love to start with Pickle the Dachshund, which is listed as intermediate, I think I’m better off starting with Cocoa and Waffle the Alpacas who are listed as easy. I’m a complete novice as far as needle felting but find the technique intriguing. The level of detail is just amazing, making the projects look like art to me. And, even better, I think these would make lovely keepsake gifts. Imagine giving or receiving one of these cute creations! As I mentioned, the techniques, both knitting and needle felting, are explained so I do think that even a beginning knitter could attempt the easiest of these projects and have a fulfilling creation at the end. For more experienced knitters, I think these would be entertaining and satisfying projects.I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Nifty little knitting + needle felting animals
I wasn't clear when I picked this book that it involves not just felted knitting, but also needle felting. It's a nice marriage of those two things, and includes detailed instructions about the techniques as well as how to make each of the animals. The first part of the book is explanations of knitting and the idea of making the little bodies, little legs, etc. Then there's an explanation of how to felt the knitted pieces, and how to sew them together and stuff them. Then there's an explanation of needle felting and how to get different effects for these animals. I love the approach in that on the one hand, this book will tell you how to make these specific things, but it's also teaching you how to make things like this, so that you could think about designing your own animals if you wanted to. (Maybe you'd like to make a version of the family pet, for example.)The second part of the book is specific instructions for making each of the 20 animals. Explicit knitting instructions, assembly instructions, felting and detailing instructions. This is a nice collection of animals, a well thought-out and presented book, and good instructions.

Beautiful
I wanted this book because the animals are gorgeous and realistic looking. This is not a cutesy wootsy child style animal character pattern book. As a person who has done felting on and off for 15 years I was ready for something more complex. This requires knitting the parts then wet felting, then stuffing. Then needle felting. This book is very good with the directions and the color photographs are helpful and inspiring. This is for intermediate or advanced knitters who are not afraid of many steps to a project.
