The inside magnet skips a little on my aquarium glass but cleans green filament algae off my glass easily. But there are other smaller versions designed for a acrylic fish tank. Make sure you get the one made for acrylic and rated for your size tank or you will have a very badly scratched tank. **Q: Would this work in a bowl or no?** A: No this would not work in a bowl. Needs a flat surface for the tiny short Velcro like bristles to make contact with the glass. **Q: what size is best for 36 bowfront. also your supposed to leave it in the tank?** A: By 36 I guessing that's gallons? It's actually surprisingly easy to use - the magnetics are strong enough to let you quickly move it around corners when needed, and since it floats it's easy to "reaquire" when you do lose the link. It doesn't take a lot of effort to "scrub" this gadget up and down on the glass, and it removes the majority of the algae it passes over. It can be a bit challenging to get around certain objects (e.g. filters, decorations that are close to the wall), but that's to be expected.
