Excellent images, needs external microphone
The quality of the images on this video camera are first rate, even when zoomed to 20x. The internal microphone does not provide quality of sound to match the images. An external microphone is essential for making quality videos. Canon do not recommend a microphone for this camera but I found the Rode VideoMic NTG, although not cheap, provides excellent sound, balancing distant with near sound in a way the internal microphone cannot do. There is a large number of menu options on the camera which take some getting used to, and it is a pity that there is not a comprehensive manual with the camera, only a quick start guide (full manual available on-line). However, use of the camera is pretty intuitive. Although my previous experience of cameras has been SLRs (all recently Canons in the upper price range), and this is my first video camera, I have been very impressed with quality and relative ease of use. Can definitely recommend.

Does everything that I require in a small compact product.
I'll be using the product to produce web site content and promotional videos... I researched numerous product options at that price point, and the Canon XA 40 was the best option for what I will need.

Quite good.
This is a very good camera apart from the image quality when you zoom to 20x the image is very poor. Plus points are: it is very easy to use, and I like the slow motion feature as I like to film birds in flight. I have bought extra accessories for it, and take it with me whenever I go to nature reserves, it is quite easily stored in my camera bag. A very good camera.

Schöne Reise / Videos gedreht, in 4K Qualität !! Am PC - mit hochwertigen Bearbeitungsprogramm ein Top / Video erstellt. Sehr empfehlenswert dieser Camcorder von Canon. Für Amateure allemal geeignet. Mehr Funktionen als das teuerste Smartphone. Aber auch Anstrengender, wenn man Wert auf sehr gute Ergebnisse legt. Muss jeder für sich selbst entscheiden !!
