Under the plain gray skirts of Miss Beatrice Lockwood’s gown, a pistol waits at the ready. For Beatrice is a paid companion on a secret mission—and with a secret past—and she must be prepared to fight for her life at any moment. Yet she is thrown oddly off guard by the fierce-looking man who joins her in foiling a crime outside a fancy ball—and then disappears into the shadows, leaving only his card. His name is Joshua Gage, and he claims to know Beatrice’s employers. Beyond that, he is an enigma with a hypnotically calm voice and an ebony-and-steel cane. . . . Joshua, who carries out clandestine investigations for the Crown, is equally intrigued. He has a personal interest in Miss Lockwood, a suspected thief and murderer, not to mention a fraudster who claims to have psychical powers. The quest to discover her whereabouts has pulled him away from his mournful impulses to hurl himself into the sea—and engaged his curiosity about the real Beatrice Lockwood, whose spirit, he suspects, is not as delicate as her face and figure. He does know one thing, though: This flame-haired beauty was present the night Roland Fleming died at the Academy of the Occult. Guilty or not, she is his guide to a trail of blood and blackmail, mesmerism and madness—a path that will lead both of them into the clutches of a killer who calls himself the Bone Man. . . . Review: Another Great Read - One of my favorite authors! The story line and the characters are once again fantastic! I recommend every book she writes! Review: Another Fun Read by Amanda Quick - The Mystery Woman is the second book in the Ladies of Lantern Street series. Jayne Ann Krentz, writing as Amanda Quick, takes back to old England and throws in a paranormal twist, just to make it fun. Our two main characters, Beatrice Lockwood and Joshua Gage, are possessed of psychical powers that enable them to carry out investigations more effectively. Throw in your requisite mad man, an egotistical assassin, and an obsession, and you've got the makings of an Amanda Quick historical romance. Quick never disappoints. She is one of my favorite writers. Yes, I always know what to expect, but she tells the stories in such a way as to keep me buying her books and devouring them, more than once. I reread her books multiple times, and all of her books grace the shelves of my home library. ## Technical Specifications | Specification | Value | |---------------|-------| | Best Sellers Rank | #318,384 in Books ( See Top 100 in Books ) #42 in Victorian Literary Criticism (Books) #511 in Historical Mystery #11,234 in Romantic Suspense (Books) | | Customer Reviews | 4.4 out of 5 stars 3,122 Reviews | ## Images ![The Mystery Woman (Ladies of Lantern Street) - Image 1](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/715gSaYDBbL.jpg) ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Another Great Read *by V***E on November 10, 2025* One of my favorite authors! The set with Last of the Mohicans, all of Sherlock Holmes, all the Max brand and Louis La Moure, all before I left home. In the 70's all Sci Fi, then Sci Fantasy. All of Christine FeeHan books. Agatha Christy, gothic romances. Now I am reading WWII books and non fiction about Islam. Now at night I read what I call a good read is a mellow book with some action, just enough romance and suspense so you can sit back and relax. I found that in Amanda Quick, Jayne Castle, Etc. My favorites are the Harmony series by her with her dust bunnies. This book is just such a read. It has some romance, suspense and I can put it down and just pick up where I left out the night before. Don't call after8P.M. I'll be having a reading adventure --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.sn/products/16226687-the-mystery-woman-ladies-of-lantern-street](https://www.desertcart.sn/products/16226687-the-mystery-woman-ladies-of-lantern-street) --- *Product available on Desertcart Senegal* *Store origin: SN* *Last updated: 2026-10-09*
