IGNORE THE BAD REVIEWS! THIS IS WORTH GETTING!!!
I used to live back in Japan - and used to see these lamps around - and i always loved them and i was fortunate to find some on here and I purchased 2 of these little guys and i can honestly tell you that I did fall in love with them it. The art work is very beautiful and is exactly like the ones i saw back home. Yes - You do have to assemble them but it only has 4 screws and with some patience this can be built in under 2 minutes. Flimsy? Not at all. As I mentioned you need to be patient and careful when building this lamp. Precision is key - and if you feel like its still not right - a little glue can help as well. Too Dim? No - Just perfect! These lamps are supposed to be like the traditional candle lamps used back in china/japan before electricity came into play. It may seem that the lighting to be too dim - but when you turn off all the lights and let your eyes adjust to the low lighting - You can see the real beauty of this lamp. The bulb that does come with it gives it that perfect low glow. You can get a stronger bulb if you like - but keep in mind that this is paper and the heat of the bulb can cause it to burn. Its a perfect type of small lamp meant for a bedroom - gives you a nice relaxing lighting or a romantic feel. I HIGHLY Recommend getting more of these :)

Beautiful little lamp
Some reviews mentioned that it was fiddly and difficult to assemble correctly. I found this not to be the case. As always, when putting something with several screws together, it never pays to tighten them up until all the screws are located and seated, and if you do this, everything fits and aligns perfectly. My only criticism is that the bulb is really weak. so I bought a stronger LED bulb (LED to avoid heating the paper up too much). I also added a dimmer switch, and now it is pretty much perfect and amazing value.

Beautiful unique lamp, assembly is required
The design on this lamp is truly beautiful. I bought this as a gift for my girlfriend who is Japanese and loves asian decor, and she loved it. It is a bit smaller than I expected it to be, however that's my own fault because it clearly says the size in the listing. This is definitely a small bedside lamp or decoration only lamp, not a floor lamp or anything like that. The bulb isn't very bright, however that is not an issue to me. If you're looking for a very bright lamp, however, then you won't want to get this. Although I imagine you could just buy your own bulb that has a higher wattage. I personally like that the wattage is low, as it casts a really relaxing, nice glow to my room when it's on. The only annoying this and reason for the 4 star rating is the assembly portion. Yes, you have to assemble it yourself, however, it's small so it's not like there is that much to do. My issue is that it isn't very sturdy, and it's not manufactured very well (even though it is beautiful). The grooves and holes don't match up very well; I kind of had to create my own hole for one of the nails. I don't think this could withstand a lot of manhandling or something, as previous reviews have stated that it's very delicate, although I'm not sure why you would be throwing a lamp around in the first place... I plan on getting another one as a gift since she likes this one so much. Overall, if your main goal is getting a very pretty, unique bedside lamp, then I'd recommend this. However, if you're unwilling to take the time to put this together, get frustrated easily, or want something that is less delicate and more sturdy, then I'd look into getting something else.

Beautiful decorative andon lantern with trivially easy assembly required
This is a very nice decoration piece. It arrived very well packaged, was fairly easy to assemble, minding square angles when assembling. And it looks great! The light is reminiscent of candle lit andon lanterns, of which this is emulating. My only gripe is I wish it came with an LED bulb, but I can understand incandescent for cost savings. This will live in my bathroom as a counter accent. And, with some cable cleanup, will look amazing. Also provides just enough light for accent/night light. The wood is very soft and matchstick-like, but is large enough to act as a substantial frame for the piece. When you assemble it and screw the pieces together, its important to have precision and build it with care. Mine came out wonderfully, and took all of five minutes to get it how I wanted it. If you don't align the screws with the center of the crossing dowels, you run the risk of splitting the wood, but that's obvious to anyone who has ever screwed anything into wood before. I have no idea why this thing has so many negative reviews. I'm a fairly technically savvy person, and this was stupidly easy to assemble and put together. And I absolutely expected when I ordered... It's not a primary lighting lantern. I think people have the wrong expectations about what they're buying, or don't know basic assembly of wooden things and break the pieces when trying to put it together. User incompetence does not a bad product make.

Complete junk. Avoid!
Wow, this really IS a piece of junk. To start, while the Amazon photo shows nice muted pink blossoms, as another reviewer said, the blossoms on the lamp are actually bright cherry red. It's a huge difference in design, and makes this lamp unworkable for our decor. As others have stated, they couldn't even bother to include instructions, though they happen to be found in one of the Amazon photos. I'm quite handy, and this thing was a challenge to assemble. None of the pieces fit together securely--you really have to use a lot of force to get them into place. One of the corners broke off during assembly and if I wanted to keep the cheaply made lamp, I'd have to glue it. The included bulb is literally a nightlight bulb, though just to see what it would look like, I substituted a much brighter LED bulb. This would be necessary if you want anything other than a dim nightlight.

Easy to assemble.
The slots are not a 100% on track and it stands a little crooked, but for the price and the how easy it was to set up it's worth the buy if you're looking for something to accent a section.

Perfect for the money - seems negative reviews were expecting something other than a $15 lamp?
I honestly have no clue what some of these reviewers were expecting - it's a $15 decorative mood lamp, not an industrial flood light. Yes, it's dim - that's just because it comes with a low wattage bulb (7w I think), so if you want, just *buy a more powerful bulb* for a couple bucks at your local hardware store or here on Amazon. You can get bulbs with quadruple the power and beyond that fit this size socket for nickels and dimes. Yes, the wood is light-weight; I would have guessed pine due to its softness/lightness, but it actually smells a bit like cedar. The softness of the wood is actually a major advantage to this construction style - the screws are really solid and their threads are sharp, and since the pre-drill holes are really just guide holes roughly as thick as the shank of the screw, the threads bite in very securely and really hold this little guy together! Is it sturdy enough to substitute for a ball in a game of backyard football? No! What were you expecting? Ha, I just don't get it. This lil' pupper looks good and works great; couldn't have asked for more value for the money.
