Airmax Black DyeMond Pond & Lake Dye 4X Concentrate, 1 Quart

I have a 1500 gallon gold fish pond and a 7000 Koi pond that were looking a little sad and brown here in winter. And since the water clarity was good I was concerned about the views that might be open to heron, raccoons, possums. Yes I live in the city but have a nice woody acre. So I decided to try the Airmax Black Dye because the blue dye doesn't look good on waterfalls. Well the black is very pretty black with very little product used, but the water coming over the waterfalls looked neutral. That was good. The water in the test tubes for ammonia, nitrites, pH etc was clear so that tests were accurate. That is good. I hope that the lack of penetrating sunlight may slow down string algae as it warms up. But the darkness does not seem to affect water temp. Thats good. And the ponds looked really cool, deep black with the reflection the ads talked about. Until I decided to put some Natures Blue in one to try to get the Twightlight Blue that Airmax also makes but that I didn't buy. Unfortunately it did what ll blue dies did: make it a very pretty but unnatural blue across the waterfall and at the agitation at the bottom of the falls. When I received the products there was a slip enclosed that asked that if I could't give them 5 stars please call or email. I had 2 issues that were going to take my rating to 4 stars so I did as asked and emailed them my feedback. Much to my surprise I didn't get a defensive answer or an excuse as to why they must do what they must do. I got a real back and forth conversation that specifically addressed the feedback I was going to give about dosing for smaller ponds. As a result of the time and interest they took with someone who only spent about 50.00 with them, they have created a repeat customer. So my feedback is that the product is good but use increments of a half or one ounce at a time. If you have a waterfall the Natures Blue will make it look very blue...very bright blue, and I think unnatural. I am going to stick with Black or try Twilight Blue. Thanks Steve! Works great. Just enough color for my nearly 1 acre pond. Darkens the water, but does not look fake. I'm happy

Works amazing!! I’ve spent more money on other pond dyes that don’t do anything. This is going on 3 weeks and my pond still looks beautiful. I can tell the color is changing from the blue it originally was, but it still looks great. Will continue to buy this product I hope they never change the formula.I used 2 full bottles on my pond which is about 1/3 of an acre and 6ft at the deepest point.

I put this in my pond 4 weeks ago and it’s still blue. Lots of rain and rock dust mixed in. Still looks good. I will buy again. Water is clearer.

This stuff is great! It doesn't take much to turn our pond black, yet the fish are fine. We've reordered a few times. We learned about using dye to help prevent algae buildup from the Denver Botanical Gardens. Also, it doesn't dye your skin if you have to get into the pond to do anything.

This product works as described and had added to the beauty and appearance of my pond quality and the water color is strikingly blue and beautiful. My pond, with the proper maintenance as recommended by Airmax, has maintained a clean, clear, and functional appearance. The product arrived well packaged to avoid any leakage. Instructions for use were clear and understandable in regards to dosages in regards to pond size. The 1 quart size container has allowed for multiple applications and needed keep up the deep blue color.

We have a lot of pond weeds growing in our 1/4 acre earth pond every summer, making it look very unappealing (except to the dogs). Previously we have used a different color dye from the Pond Guy, but it made the water resemble the Caribbean, and we live in North Idaho. This time we chose the Twilight Blue color, applying it towards the end of March to get a head start on the weed growth. The color is really nice, a darker blue that looks pretty natural for our area. We initially added one cup of dye, but the color wasn't quite as dark as we wanted so added another cup, which did the trick. When the weather warms up, we will try Muckaway to help clear the bottom of the pond, which is now about twenty years old. Over ten years ago we added a baggie full of goldfish to the water (from a pet store, to "help" feed the turtles); there continue to be several large schools of goldfish of different sizes and colors that over-winter, so they are alive and well, and attracting herons, Kingfishers, ospreys and mergansers. Hopefully the darker color of the water will make it more difficult for them to get picked off! We plan to use the dye every 4-6 weeks as recommended; it is very cost-effective for us since our pond is small with a constant influx of water from an underground stream, and doesn't need aeration.

Update 9/9; Unfortunately after 3 days it has seemed to of worn off and my pond turned green again. I’ve added another 2 fl oz to see if it hold up.So, I got this for my pond, and let me just say, this stuff does *not* mess around. My pond’s about 5,000 gallons +/- a few gallons here and there, baking in the unforgiving Southern California sun, and I figured, "Hey, I’ll eyeball the amount." Well, let’s just say my eyeballing skills are a little too ambitious. Less than 2 fl oz later, my pond is now a **bottomless abyss** of darkness.Pitch black. Like, I’m pretty sure if I toss a coin in, it’ll disappear into another dimension. It's not so much a pond anymore as it is a scene from a horror movie. I half-expect a mysterious fog to roll in and a voice to whisper, "Join usss..."In fairness, I “should” have started with 1 fl oz. But did I? Nope. So, here we are with a pond that could double as Darth Vader’s swimming pool.On the bright side (or lack thereof), it’s doing its job fantastically! No UV rays getting through this black void, that’s for sure. The water looks great, if you’re into the whole "infinite darkness" vibe. If you’re looking for a “subtle” tint, though, maybe start with less than half an ounce unless you’re trying to summon a kraken.**Overall, 10/10 would recommend**, but learn from my mistake and measure carefully unless you’re ready to embrace the darkness!

This product did help to keep the algae down but made it harder to see the fish until the came to the surface

This product works like a dream. We have over an acre pond and we put in about 3/4 of the container and it turned a beautiful blue. It’s been a month later still beautiful Blue.

Packaging not suited to the product. All four packets were spilling into the plastic bag holding them.One should not only wear disposable gloves, as noted on the packaging, but preferably gloves to the elbows and a long plastic apron to handle the packets.Due to the inner packets being broken, the loose product got on my arms and clothes. The product permanently stains whatever it touches and the stain is not soap and water soluble. You have to wait for you skin surface to wear off naturally before you'll get rid of the stains. The packaging says to use diluted bleach on clothing ... that still removed the colour of my jeans. I'm too old to find the bleached jeans look attractive. 😄

Love this product for out pond. Use caution because a little goes a long way .
