MSI Arsenal Gaming AMD Ryzen 2ND and 3rd Gen AM4 M.2 USB 3 DDR4 DVI HDMI Crossfire ATX Motherboard (B450 Tomahawk MAX II)

This review is for the 'Shout Out for MSI' Promotion. I am a long time MSI fan. Right now have an old MSI Z97 Gaming 5 mobo, a RX 580 Armor MK2, a Vigor GK30 combo, a Force GC20 Gamepad, some Lucky dolls, a MSI headset (from one of their gift bundles) along with a MSI bag. So you get the point, big fan... When i decided to update my PC to Ryzen 3, it was very clear that my mobo selection reduced to MSI and MSI only. Spent close to a month reading about the B450 lineup, the X470 and also the X570... The newer chipset brings nothing of my interest, so my decision came to the B450 Tomahawk/Mortar/Carbon Pro, or the x470 Carbon Pro (those were the models within my budget). When checking the specs, the only thing the Carbon models had as advantage over the Toma and Mortar was the Argb header, but for me it didnt worth the price difference (was not going to use the WiFi, which is the selling point for the Carbon mobos). Since the Tomahawk got so many good comments, it was the clear winner. I could not be happier with the mobo. I installed my new Ryzen 3600 and it boot up instantly. I gotta admit i updated the BIOS because i'm using a M.2 Nvme SSD, and supposedly there were issues with older bios versions, but everything went perfect. My Ryzen is working great in the Tomahawk, reaching 4375 Mhz. I like the layout, the 4 fan headers (apart from the CPU Fan and Pump headers) + 2 rgb headers (working great with my Fans, synced through Mystic Light). The audio is a nice surprise (i had a Xonar DGX soundcard in my previous rig which i decided to left in there for my kids), it did not let me down. The board seems durable, high quality. I TOTALLY LOVE the Flash Bios Button feature, as it makes the mobo virtually unbrickable. In previous builds, i was always scared of updating the Bios, but with this mobo, is just easy peasy. To be honest, the only drawback, and that's just personal preference, is the looks, as is too bland for my taste. I love my Z97 Gaming 5 looks with the red accents all over the mobo and heatsinks, so this all black style is a little boring, not bad at all (the board looks good), but i loved the black/red theme MSI had in previous generations. In overall, this is just the best bang for the buck mobo right now for Ryzen 3rd gen. If you do your homework, and read about the different vendors mobos in tech sites, you will see that there's no other b450 mobo (besides MSIs own Mortar, Bazooka and Carbon Pro) with the quality VRMs to support the new AMD CPUs. 100% recommended DESIGN: 5 stars --> Very good layout SPECS: 5 stars --> within this price range, and actually even up to 150$ (maybe more) LOOKS: 4 stars --> Personal taste DURABILITY: 5 stars --> This thing looks like a tank, heavy, well built. And the Flash Bios Button means you wont brick it. PRICE/PERFORMANCE: 5 stars --> Like i said, this is the best Bang for the Buck right now, period.

Received MSI B450 Tomahawk AM4 on 1/19/2021 (a few days after placing order) and installed on 1/20/2021. Obviously, I have no data on durability. Also, I have had zero issues with the board, so no data on tech support. When assessing my Stability rating for this board, please understand that I do not overclock and only occasionally play computer games. When my old system failed (Asus board-six years old), I needed another stable and dependable mid-range system for productivity, web activity, and entertainment, including some gaming. My past system building experience has been with Asus mainboards, but the MSI board was the easiest system build I have ever done. I especially liked the placement of SATA1 and SATA2 connectors at bottom right corner of board for easy connection to hdds. My MSI board is AM4 socket, and I find AMD's (old-school) sockets and processors easier to manipulate than Intel parts. CPU cooler attached solidly to board, and I have had no cooling issues with cpu. I found board layout to be logical and easy to work with. My only complaint is with the flimsy metallic I/O port cover for the back panel connectors, but then I have never seen one of these that actually fit the mainboard properly. Components I'm using with my B450 Tomahawk include: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 cpu w/Wraith Spire cooler, Corsair Vengence LPX DDR4 memory, EVGA GEForce GTX 960 graphics card, Western Digital 1TB and 2TB hdds, EVGA 750W G2 Supernova power supply and Antec Nine Hundred case (see picture of running system). The remainder of my experience with this mainboard will consist of long-term evaluation. So far, I can attest that the MSI B450 Tomahawk mainboard installs easily with the hardware detailed above and has run Linux 20.04 LTS for about 36 hours now without any issue. Still early, but happy so far.

I wanted to build a relatively inexpensive computer to replace my 7-year old machine (also custom built), and after looking at various options I opted for this MSI mobo. I'd used MSI several times in the past, and was happy with their product quality and their support. (BTW, I use pcpartpicker to assemble my components, I recommend the site.) After putting everything together and running it, I'm very happy with my choice. The mobo physical layout is excellent, installation of the cpu and cooler and graphics card was easy, and all those fiddly connectors were not too hard to identify and access (needed a flashlight sometimes, and younger eyes would have helped). The firmware settings interface is decently designed and easy to use: I particularly liked the fan speed controls. The Bios flash is easy to do with the firmware file loaded onto a USB key. (I didn't try the funky flash button, did it from the interface.) I wish MSI provided a Windows app to download and update the Bios, as some other brands do, but this is a minor thing. For the price paid, the value of this mobo is excellent. I highly recommend considering it for a mid-priced Ryzen build.

The MSI b450 is the motherboard to buy for first, second or third gen Ryzen. I spent months researching different boards features for the price and watching reviews of different boards, and none received the praise like this one did. So I bought it. After buying, it arrived earlier than expected which is always pleasant. I got straight to the fun as soon as it arrived and slotted in a 3700x and 32gb of 3600mhz ram. Both run cool, and with XMP the motherboard supports the high speed ram as advertised. As for the board overclocking support, that will depend mostly on your CPU and cooler. I have yet to overclock yet on it, but would be confident in it's ability to do so as this board's temps seem extremely low for the hardware I'm running on it. Even with a PCIe 3.0 NVME running hot as my primary drive the board stays well below 50c under load (about 65c for my 3700X). This was a great affirmation that the board can handle the parts without issue. Easy recommendation for those looking at 1st, 2nd or 3rd gen Ryzen. Since my purchase I have built 3 more PCs for friends and family on the same board with similar experiences.

building for my sister. As a whole PC went together with no issues. tomahawk max board, 8gb working hyper X 2666 ram, R5 1600 with stock cooler, rx380 gpu, EVGA 450 PSU posted and windows installed fine. issues of freezing started when trying to update AMD drivers, bios and win10 updates. PC wil boot up fine but will randomly freeze up after awhile of use. Went to MSI site to download chipset driver zip but libray location error occurred on install. had to get from AMD site. STILL FREEZES. updated Bios from MSI site then rebooted and STILL FROZE. in a time crunch, so if issues persist next day or 2 i will get ASUS board. will troubleshoot and post update soon. My first MSI board, i should have stuck with ASUS update (11/23/19) turned out to be windows issue reinstalled and is now fixed and stable. MSI bios interface kind of a pain (compared to Asus i have)

Sturdy, comes well packaged, lots of headers and ports, bios flashback capabilities, the vrms are great, supports 3rd gen ryzen out of the box. Honestly for the price I don't see any other board in the bracket being worth it. The board has also been tested and praised by so many well known users such as Linus, Paul, Jayz2Cents, GamerNexus, it's been put through the ringer. If you need a cheap board that can take a beating, handle overclocking and heat well, is easy to troubleshoot and supports 3rd gen ryzen, just get a MAX and save yourself the trouble. Been using it for a month and I have absolutely no complaints. I also like the Click 5 Bios UI.

I purchased this board as a replacement from an old LGA1150 board to upgrade to the new Ryzen 3600x. Haven't received my CPU yet, but getting the board set up was a breeze. The ability to flash an update to the board without needing to set up the whole computer was amazing. It's a very sturdy, high quality board, with no unneeded flashy RGB aside from some on the backside. The layout of the pins and sockets actually made cable management easier than my last board. Everything plugs in and can be tucked away and wrapped up nicely. 5/5 stars here, would recommend to anyone needing a decently priced board for current gen Ryzen chips.

PC specs: r5 3600, rtx 2070 super, single m.2 nvme 2tb storage, 2x8gb ram This mobo is easy to flash for use with the r5 3600 (I just downloaded the bios onto my usb and followed the simple instructions in the manual where you basically just plug in the USB and hold down a button on the mobo) so that was one big reason to get this for my pc build. The second is basically price, being only ~$115. Additional benefits I didn't expect/wasn't looking for but am happy about: 1. Steel PCie slot for the GPU so that's nice for support (especially since I got a triple-fan gpu model which is HUEG) 2. 4 LEDs to indicate if the computer isn't loading because of either CPU, GPU, or boot (i.e. BIOS/OS). I forget what the 4th indicator is, but these are still very nice and easy ways to troubleshoot if you have any issues putting things together or if something happens in the future. It's double nice because I've got a meshify C case which has a side-glass panel so I can actually see inside if something ever does happen. 3. Subtle red LEDs for aesthetics/visibility are located beneath the motherboard, so it's a nice and soft glow at night with my glass panel. My GPU is a rog card which of course also has red LEDs so the combination is great. 4. USB-C: I know it has at least one which I'm most likely to use in the future soon.

I've been using this motherboard now for almost 3-years. I wanted to come back here and give it a review as I had forgotten to do so initially. The motherboard has functioned flawlessly for me over the past 3 years. I've never had any issues with the hardware, granted I keep it updated to the latest BIOS. There is support for the new Ryzen CPUs which is great if you're looking for the ability to upgrade. The same goes for GPUS as I'm currently running a 5700 XT which can be upgraded with this motherboard. I think this motherboard is a great budget motherboard to have without losing the ability to upgrade hardware in the future. Highly recommend this product to anyone looking for a reliable and budget motherboard.

MSI, uma marca de respeito. Essa placa é tudo de bom para quem quer usá-la com processadores mais baratos e depois fazer um Up_Grade assim como também nas memórias RAM.

Love the fact the Max version is Ryzen 3000 ready out of the box. Board has BIOS update without CPU being installed anyway. Fantastic VRM, Great thermals and stability. Great features for the price. I love it.
