Travel John vs Knock Off Brands Review - save your money and get the Travel John, trust me.
A Life Saver!!!I am comparing this superior product to another inferior product out there, there is no substitute for the original Travel John, even if you pay more! Here's my comparison of the cheaper stuff (which you should totally forget and not waste your money on). I thought about getting the cheaper knock off (and eventually did) but there is absolutely no comparison; Travel John is THE BEST, hands and bladders down!Travel John vs knock-offs:- OPENING to the Travel John is thick, molded plastic that can be pressed up against you, especially if you are a female. The plastic is very rigid and holds it's shape as it's intended for traveling (yes, I have used it as a passenger in a car, crouching on the floor while the car bumped). The knock off has a very thin styrofoam opening that flexes, so if you hit a bump on the road, you're going to be covered in your own mess, not to mention making the rental car smell like a urinal! (see pics for comparison on the openings).- REUSABILITY with Travel John is possible with urine. Since it's so pricey (but worth it), I put it to the test and used it twice! Yes, the material inside the Travel John clumped up in a solid mass, so I added another load to it the next day and it worked! It clumped up as well and didn't smell. I didn't attempt a third time as I didn't want it to spill over or not clump. The knock offs do not even clump, they are thin sheets inside with some "absorbable" qualities in them, but if you pee in those, your pee and the sheets float around inside. The knock offs are more like urine bags that should be emptied into a toilet, and heaven forbid if it leaks in your camping gear or bag!!- ODOR with Travel John, none! I used it twice and it was OK. The liquisorb inside clumps up into a solid mass and takes the odor with it. The knock offs don't even clump, and the pee inside is still liquid, so yes, that will smell. You know the Travel John is working when your pee mixes with the powder inside and it lets off a heat - it's doing it's clumping job!- LEAKAGE none with the Travel John. It has a very nice snapping neck near the opening for sealing and unsealing if you want to use it a second time, plus you don't have to worry about leakage as the material inside the bag forms a solid. Forget the knock offs, because the knock offs don't clump and there's free-sloshing urine inside, you won't want to use the knock offs twice, you'd probably want to dump the knock off as soon as possible.Travel John has given me confidence to go where I want, on long road trips (I wear a skirt for extended road trips). I used to be terrified of not having access to a toilet as I have a microscopic bladder, and forget drinking coffee, soda, or wine/beer. I used to live in Florida and you cannot just pull over to use the toilet as your tires will go into sand and water and your car will get stuck and will need to get towed. You knew who the tourists were because their cars were always stuck in the highway median in the grass. I also do not like to pee in large mayo jars because that would mean I'd have to climb into the trunk of an SUV and crouch down, then have to deal with the liquid mess (and nearly overflowed the doggone jar). I don't like going to filthy porta-potties that are pitch black at night and drop my phone into the toilet trying to use my flash light....you get the idea; been there, done that.I have these tucked in my travel back pack for road trips, in the car for emergencies. Pay the price for the real thing, you'll be super glad you did!

Great for emergencies
I keep one of these in my glove compartment for emergencies, and in my backpack on the trail. They are easy to use and hold a lot. Just roll it down and throw it away when finished. No smell and no leakage.

There are two versions
Make sure you look at the box and get the one you want. Looks like there are two versions. One with the zip lock and one without it. Both work fine but you may prefer the zip lock.

Saved the day!!
I can’t say enough about how useful these little Travel Johns are. I originally bought them for a camping trip and they came in unbelievably handy. However, I also keep them in my car console, my suitcase, my husband’s car, and have given them to family and friends. Recently I was stranded on the side of the turnpike with a flat tire and learned that roadside assistance was more than an hour away. I could not get out of the car safely or walk to a restroom and I REALLY had to pee! Sitting in my car, I could barely concentrate on anything else and desperately looked around to see if there was something I could use (water bottle? Vitamin jar?) and then I remembered to check my car console. Bingo!! I opened the travel John, slipped it under my shorts while sitting in the driver seat, and nearly wept with relief. The product contains the urine without fear of spill, eliminates the odor, and I was able to put it in a grocery bag and tuck it under the seat until I arrived home to toss it into the garbage. Thank you, thank you for this amazing product. I tried another brand or two and they are nothing like this one. The quality is excellent and can’t be beat

Useful for emergencies, but not foolproof - for women, anyway
I took several Travel Johns on an Iceland road trip. I knew there may be times I would not have access to a bathroom, especially since I was taking full advantage of the sun never setting, and staying out well after many things were closed. Indeed I ended up using three of them over 8 days in-country. I used two of them more than once. In all five times, I was relieved to have them without having to spoil nature, but in all five times I also could not get a good seal, and it leaked urine down the back every. single. time. Thankfully I had wipes and toilet paper and hand sanitizer to clean up, but it definitely made it more of an ordeal. Not easy to use or totally hygienic for sure. Also, there is absolutely no way to use this inside a regular car if you're a tall woman. I'm 5'10.5" and thin, and there was no way for me to use this with the doors closed in my Kia Rio. Instead I found isolated places and opened both doors on one side of the car, sat between them (for a little privacy) on the running board/side of the car, and did my business. Would NOT work in a place with any traffic or people.I think the problem is the plastic cup part has no give... or maneuverability maybe? If it at least had a silicone lip all the way around, that might help quite a lot. Not sure if it would still be biodegradable though.Anyway, I really think these are a must have for emergencies or even for hiking/camping. Just be sure you have stuff to clean up drips afterward.
