Smart Lock not so smart
This is a garbage lock. It doesn’t stay connect to Apple HomeKit, or the august/take application. It keeps disconnecting so I can’t even lock using my smart phone. Which is the whole point of a smart lock

Great lock, terrible configuration instructions to use it with the App
I purchased the keyed version of the lock but received the keyless version. Unfortunately, I only saw it after it was installed by the Amazon installer. I was not happy with that but now it is too late. The lock is well made and of high quality, the configuration though was a hit or miss since there were no instructions on how to use the app. As an IT person, I would not have an issue configuring it but it took me too long to make it work. A person that has no tech skills will have to rely on the lock hardware only or get a techie to help with the app. I am very upset that I paid more for the keyed version and did not receive it.

Giving more control over your front door while giving you security
The physical install of this product is fairly simple you may need to either drill a hole or pant the door depending on how your hold doorknob was stationed. The reason being that if you do not have a handle in your front door you will need to drill a small hole for the bottom of the handle. It is not too bad of a hole that needs to be drilled. You technically could just glue or double side tape the bottom handle to hold it into place. It does come with majority of the tools you will need to install the device. With the one I had, it did come with august plug which is what is needed to connect the deivce to the internet and allow you to open and close from your phone or wireless device. What is great is that you can also connect this to your google home or alexa to make opening the door easier. You will need to do a separate setup to do that however. After installing it you will need to setup a password which is easy just follow the instructions. It will also need to connect to your phone which is really nice because it will auto unlock when you walk in front of it and once you are inside it will lock itself if need be. The keypad will take time to get used to and I would say keep different passwords so that you do not wear down the keys making it easier to tell what your password is. What is nice is that you can control the lock from afar which I really enjoyed. The door knob itself is pretty sturdy so you don't have to worry about it wearing down. It is water resistant so if your door gets hit by a bit of rain it should be okay to use. Also be aware that you want to make sure you have the best color with your door color. The silver i feel works for any door. You can setup the proximity which can be a bit of a challenge but once you do it it works fine. The deadbolt is pretty strong and universal so you do not have to do any additional cutting out to get the deadbolt to work. It does come with batteries and indicators to show when the door is starting to run low on power. It does not come with any keys and if you happen to have a dead batteryt there is an override which essentially requires the 9 volt battery. It will give you enough power to unlock the door and get into your door. Overall I think this product is great. The design is very sturdy and easy to use. You will also have full control over your door but the only issue is that there is no physical key slot that you can use to open the door which I find to be a bit annoying.

Don't get this! I've been locked out of my own house more times than this has worked
I purchased this in 2020 and installed it in my front door. Thought I'd move into the keyless entry like everyone else and did lots of research prior to purchase. I waited two years to write this hoping something anything would change! Pro.. Glass keypad and low profile clean look CONS.. The connecting (wifi) plug is within two feet of the front door and somehow the entry keypad always bounces offline which prevents entry. The keypad will cue "awake" upon touch only to arbitrarily begin flashing and beeping. It wont clear, only repeat this nonsense over and over preventing me from entering my code and entering my home. This keyless entry does come with a user friendly app, when its in fact user friendly. In a perfect world I am able to arrive at my house and unlock the door from the app by simply pressing the open button. This helps if you are loaded down and only have one hand available to simply open the door. Can't tell you how many times this has not worked and I have dropped what I'm carrying (usually in the rain) trying to make entry. I have replaced batteries, unplugged wifi unit, unplugged the locks internal wifi unit and called the company. The company rep that answered the phone only ran through the standard practices listed above. This set was not inexpensive and so NOT worth any of the money spent. I have trudged through weather and darkness to enter through my regular key entry back door more times than I can count. Save yourself my experiences and look elsewhere!! Complete garbage!!

Superb smart lock- everything I ever wanted
This review is for the Alexa/Google Home/August version of the lock (B-YRD256-CBA-RX-0BP). I am so glad that I got this lock. It makes things easier since nobody wants to carry around keys anymore. The smart lock gives a peace of mind knowing when someone unlocked my door and being able to let family members into the house. I will break down this review into sections. HARDWARE I have installed many regular locks in the past. For this one, I followed the instructions step by step so I don't miss anything. The detailed instructions were well drawn and documented. The kit comes with multiple mounting plates screws for doors of varying thickness. It also comes with standard strike plate screws and long security screws. You make the decision of which to use. I use the long screw for improved security. It helps fight against blunt force intrusions. The latch install is standard. As for the electronics part, you just have to connect a wire, install the August module, and insert the 4 AA batteries. The second part is the Ridgefield handleset. It is dumb and doesn't have a lock that you can lock. It's for decorative purposes. It requires a regular 2 1/8" hole and an additional small 5/16" hole at the bottom. If the AA batteries ever run of power, don't worry if there's no backup key. Push a 9V battery against the bottom of the lock and it will temporarily provide power for you to unlock it. The hardware is only half of the install. SMART CONNECTION I got the August module that works with August, Alexa, Google Home, and HomeKit. Yale sells kits with different modules (August, Zwave/Zigbee). Make sure you get the right one for your home. On first use, I had to set the master code. It's important to keep master code safe somewhere because you will need to use it to program other entry codes. You can set up to 250 entry codes. It's excessive to me. I think the more the less secure it is. Each entry code is 4-8 digits long. I have an Android phone. There are multiple Yale apps on Google play store and none of them works with this lock. I had to install the August app. Yale Secure app is compatible with this lock but is only available for Apple iOS devices. The Yale Assure Lock app doesn't work with this lock. Using the August app, it secures the app by verifying your phone number, email, and password. As I was setting up a new account, it was confusing which option/device to pick. You have to pick last setting Set Up a Lock Connected By August and then Set Up Yale Lock. After that, set up was a breeze. Once set up with the lock, I was finally done! Overall, the set up is more involved than a typical non-connected lock but it was totally worth it at the end.

Great fit and finish, easy set up, fantastic app, and features!!
I previously had the Yale lock set, with the HomeKit module. It’s been very durable, and reliable, albeit difficult to initially set up. This Yale lock has all the very useful functions of the durable Yale construction. But it adds the super user friendly, August module. After installing the lock, which was simple using the included instructions, August set up could not have been easier. The August app walks you through each step and even offers videos and tutorials for assistance. My original Yale lock did not come with the hand set. This one did, and it is spectacular. The handset has a solid quality feel. It operates smoothly and has a great hand feel. The inside knob does feel a bit short to me, but I have larger hands, so maybe that’s just me. If you’re not super concerned about internet app privacy, August offers an absolutely outstanding feature. You have to go into settings and always allow August to run in the background and know your location. If you do this, it will create a geo fence and automatically unlock your door for you when you meet appropriate parameters. It knows when you are outside and won’t inadvertently unlock if your phone is inside. You can also set it to automatically lock the door after an allotted time, or if you cross out if the geo fence. I did not opt for that, because I don’t want to leave for lunch and inadvertently lock my family out of the house if they happen to be in the yard or on the porch, or whatever. If that were to happen, they have a code to press on the touch screen, but I just didn’t want to put them through it. I have to admit, I love the little push notification I get in my phone, that my door has just been unlocked for me. Tgis Yale lock also Dane with a door close sensor. You easily install it with a 5/8th inch drill bit. This will allow you to see in the app, if your door is closed, open ajar, or all the way open. No more guessing and second checking, did the kids close that door. Now if only you could close the door from the app. I gave this set 5 stars, because I really like the quality, I’ve had the previous generation Yale for 2 years and no issues. The fit and finish are second to none. My door was easy to adjust for perfect latching. Lastly, the August app and its features are what a smart lock should be. Honestly, this is what I was expecting with the last one. This time they got it right, and I love it.

Happy so far
I was advised by my son in law to purchase this brand of a smart lock and I had it installed professionally but just four days later the lock failed. I was able to contact Yale and spoke to a customer service rep who after some tricks of their own understood the lock was damaged. It took a week or so before my new lock was shipped and now installed it works perfectly. Because of the great customer service and quick response I recommend yale.

Can’t Say Enough Good Things!
I love these locks. Not too long ago I ordered for my front door and am so happy with it, so I ordered this one with my back door. They look super sharp, you don’t have to have a key to enter, you can lock/unlock from your phone, it notifies you when it opens and keeps logs for you, you’re notified if it stays ajar too long (someone forgot to shut), and per your preference, it will lock automatically after a certain time frame. I mean, who wouldn’t want this? So, I ordered one for my back door, too, and then a commercial one for our shop door. I’d give it an 8/10 for install/setup. I did use my existing door hardware with it instead of installing the set it came with.
