Review: The best we have tried so far! - This is the second monolaurin product we have tried and we like it better than the first one in most ways. The price was right for this product, as compared to other brands and you get a lot of bang for your buck, for sure! 186 servings go a really long way, even if you're using this a lot at maximum dosage. A handy instruction sheet was sent with this product which was very helpful for understanding it better and for getting the dosages correct. The previous product we tried consisted of capsules filled with powder. It was easy for me to open the capsules and dump the powder into my mouth (I hate swallowing pills) and it had no taste whatsoever. This product, in comparison, is in the form of small, flying saucer-like discs that you measure out with a scoop, place in your mouth, and wash down with some liquid. They have an extremely bitter taste, which remains in your mouth if you don't swallow quickly enough. On a couple of occasions I had a little disc get stuck between my teeth and my cheek without me noticing and I accidentally comped the disc when it dislodged later. NOT a pleasant experience. Swallowing the discs was awkward for me at first, but with some practice and improvement of my technique, it got much easier - and this coming from someone who would rather chew a nasty pill than swallow it whole. My 3 yr old was able to swallow the discs down in smaller quantities without issue and she thought it was fun too! This product seems more effective than the other one and it seems more pure and of higher quality. We have been using it to ward off colds/flus and so far, nobody has come down with any serious colds or flues since we've been using it. We also used it, in conjunction with anti-biotics, to treat a few ailments in our animals and it seemed to enhance and complement the action of the anti-biotics, though it did not seem able to treat the ailments alone. As a bonus side effect, not really mentioned anywhere, this alone cleared up some pretty serious gingivitis without any other treatments of any kind. That was pretty cool. The effects of Monolaurin on certain pathogens are documented in some scientific research and more studies are coming out as time passes. I researched and read a good number of the studies in both humans and animals before trying this for our family and I have been pleased with the results thus far (several months of use). This is definitely a product that we will continue to stock in our home and use when warranted, and we'll likely stick with this brand as well.
Review: Amazing! Anti-Viral and Anti-Bacterial - After discovering monolaurin during a shingles outbreak (which I believed helped heal it), I have been taking one dose every morning. Once, when I had not been taking it, I started getting flu-like symptoms. Fever, burning eyes, etc. I pulled out my monolaurin and began taking 3 doses/day like an antibiotic, morning, noon, and night. All symptoms were completely gone within a day and a half. Now, taking a dose every day, I've never felt sick, even being around loved ones that were! In studying about monolaurin, I want to add to the other comments that this will get rid of a lot of pathogens, bacterial and viral, but not all. Only those with lipids in their membranes or makeup. However, that does include most pathogens, but not the "good" bacteria that your body needs! So it doesn't wipe out your normal protective flora like antibiotics do. Also, while I don't know how safe this is for pregnant or nursing mothers, monolaurin is found in one of the highest amounts in human breastmilk, compared to other sources! One very natural antibiotic for babies! Caution: for those who have never taken this before, it is best to start with a half scoop once a day or less and build up. My sister developed a sore throat when she took it, which is said to be one reaction. Here is the info on this from the inspired nutrition website: Cautions: Gradually build up to a full dose (over about 7-10 days) to help avoid a Herxheimer reaction. Keep out of the reach of children. Chewing produces a very bitter taste.
