I love the way clipless lets me use my hamstrings to pull the pedals up with one led while I press the pedal down woith the other leg. Horsepower. Plus, I can pop my cleat out of a clipless pedal as fast as I can move my shoe off a flat pedal.So why change?I bought another mountain bike to train on in bed weather on the street. It came with excellent flat/spiked pedals, so I rode with those. Loved the flat platform. Really nice control, too. So I thought I would order some for my excellent mountain bike and give them a try. I selected these Fookers because they are essentially RaceFace Chesters, and because they had lots of reviews with a 4.5 star average.When they arrived NEXT DAY (love you, Amazon), I opened the box and exclaimed "Wow!". They look like anodized aluminum, have excellent heft to them, and are very, very good looking. Tier 1 quality, fer sher.So I removed my SPD's and installed these fookers, and took her for a 4 1/2 hour off-road evaluation.Let me say this: I rode down the most intimidating slope of my life yesterday, a slope that I would never have even looked at riding clipless... Lots of steep descents, lots of fast switchbacks, damp trails and zero errors on these pedals.If you are a clipless rider, especially an MTB rider, make yourself happy and buy a set of these. You will love them immediately, and I do mean I M M E D I A T E L Y. Then take them to your favorite trails and get busy. You will be sore the next morning. I was, sore in my quadriceps from the lack of hamstring action, and kind of sore in my upper/back rib cage. The rib cage soreness was probably from the extra 1 1/2 hour I spent in the saddle (WTB Rocket - all day comfort there), and the quads were sore because I had to use them more to make up for no clips to pull my bike around with my hamstrings.But that's cool. My quads will adapt quickly, and you will love the control. My feet never slipped off a pedal, not one single time. And when I did need to get my foot on a pedal quickly, the power can be applied instantly because you will not have to search for the clamp to grip your cleat. All you do is place your foot on the pedal and boom! you have ignition.So there you have it - great pedal by Fooker, wonderful transition and top notch quality, with spare studs and a spare washer, too. Installation was about 60 seconds, removing the old and installing the new. Add 30 seconds putting some grease on the threads and you are into about three minutes of total labor :)I did give every stud a little tightening with what looked like a 2 or 3mm allen wrench. All were snug, but I did want some snug+.Love the pedals, boys. Note - buy the needle bearings for MTB. Most pedals for sale here have spherical bearings (ball bearings). Needle bearings have longer lives and give better overall service.Jerry DavisOP Schnabel - The Dark Side ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good (updated) *by A***D on January 26, 2018* So far so goodI've recently switched from using spds to these. They grip well and are plenty wide enough (size 13 shoe.)Update 05/1/2019About month after I purchased these, I went on a quick 400+ mile bikepacking trip out to the desert and back. I'd ridden them a fair amount before leaving, enough to where one of the pedals (can't remember which) developed a little bit of play in the pedal.I elected to take them apart to see what was what. Here's the scoop, they're a combination of bushing and sealed bearing, it's difficult to explain unless you do the same, and remove the spindle from the pedal body. Long story short, with both the bushing and sealed bearing, there's not adjustment to be made - the bolts that make up the pedal tighten down completely (e.g. you can't "over" tighten.)In order to control the amount of play, I loaded up the area around the bushing with Phil's grease (like, a lot), and put everything back together. It's been golden since - that includes the insanely dry conditions in the desert, plus 30+ mile rides every day since coming back.My only major complaint is that of the pins. (I'm picky - having slip many a pedal on the best bike ever riding skateparks all around the world and back (FBM y'all) I'm sold on having my feet STUCK unless I decide otherwise.)Like that guy named Grant, I use these with Tevas (and socks, sometimes.) Here lately they've gotten less than grippy (the pins are a shinny silver at the top.) Ain't a huge deal, just something to keep in mind.Cheap, though... ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Inexpensive flat pedals that punch way above their weight class. *by P***S on May 19, 2018* This is an initial report. I received these today. They came with 4 spacers and two spare screws and nuts. My installation on an FSA crank did need two of the spacers. The spindle has both 15mm flats for a pedal wrench and 8mm keys for an Allen wrench. I like that because the allen key lets you spin them in faster and the pedal wrench makes it easier (than with any Allen wrench I own) to torque the pedals properly.I used them on a short ride with a steep uphill/downhill section. I felt very secure on them. This was not a technical trail at all. I switched out a pair of clipless pedals for these, and the confidence I felt riding these pedals let me clean this uphill section that, just the day before I had failed on using the clipless pedals. Now, I am a fat, out of shape, just back into cycling, old (very old) guy and your mileage may vary. Nonetheless, I like 'em and will probably buy a couple more sets.Update: After roughly fifty miles I am still completely satisfied.
