First time cat owner
This is my first cat and I knew I wanted fragrance free and clumping. I didn’t know much else, so I looked at the reviews and decided to take on board the experienced cat owners views which were mostly positive. I can’t compare to any other litter, all I can say is my 10 year old rescue is using it, it’s hiding smells as well as I could expect and she seems happy. I think it does have a bit of an earthy smell but I have gotten used to it quickly and don’t notice it now. It clumps really well and makes daily tidy ups and weekly deep cleans a doddle. I’d say if in doubt give this litter a try! We have to remind ourselves the litter is for the cat and not us and I do think this litter is a good balance of human desire / cat needs at a reasonable cost. Update: I have now switched to the probiotic version and I am even more impressed. It doesn’t smell as ‘earthy’ and I am using far less. Smell is pretty much non existent after use and there appears to be less tracking.

Good cheaper alternative to 'Best' Litter, if you can handle earthy smell
Having used both Worlds and Cats Best for many years, I was looking for a cheaper alternative, natural clumping litter. Tried the Amazon own brand and that was good, but did go 'sandy' relatively quickly. Found this litter ticked most of the boxes. Pros : very absorbant, excellent clumping, low tracking, good overall odour control, practically no dust, Cons : earthy smell when cleaning out clumps (just on the edge of being unpleasant, but doesn't smell at other times). Clumps do stick to bottom of litter tray. If not for these 2 points, it would have got 5 stars. If you can put up with the smell and sticking, it is a very good alternative. Note that this litter is brownish/grey colour and not the expected yellowish of other corn litters.

Highly recommended
I’ve been using crystal litter for years because of it’s scent absorbing properties. I didn’t think any other type could match it. But, with things as they are now financially I decided I had to try something else in two of our five trays. One I filled with paper based litter and another, this. The paper litter is absorbent but not easy to scoop (you essentially have to empty the entire box every two days) and it absolutely stinks. The cats quite like it though and have chosen it over the crystal litter (well, all but one cat has) This litter on the other hand is absolutely marvellous! It does track a little but other than that I have no complaints. The cats love it and I only have to change the whole tray once a week just as I did with the crystals. I scoop daily, top up now and then but only completely clean weekly. This is important as I’m disabled and it’s not an easy job for me I won’t be re-buying the paper litter but I just ordered two more bags of this. It’s cost effective, there is absolutely zero smell (and I have a very sensitive nose!), it’s easy to clean and preferred by the cats. It’s a win win! [edit: I just wanted to do an update after reading through some negative reviews. I am a little confused. My nose is ridiculously sensitive and this litter does not smell!! I have 3 indoor cats and I have had no problem whatsoever with smell. The paper litter I tried - yuk. This stuff - not a problem! It’s not even that bad on tray cleaning day and that’s usually pretty stinky. I’m wondering how many trays multi-cat household reviewers are using. ANY litter used by several cats in a single tray is bound to need cleaning a lot and perhaps also bound to smell. That’s why you should have one tray per cat plus an extra. I have 3 cats and 5 trays. That’s the only explanation I can think of as to why folk are complaining about a smell. It certainly isn’t the product. It’s as good at absorbing smells as crystal litter. Also, there is mention of it not clumping. It absolutely does. It forms clumps around urine which just need a little wiggle with a scoop to get out. It does not clump around solids. However, to clump there would be unnecessary and the fact that it doesn’t means that you can sift solids in the scoop and return any loose litter back to the tray, making it much more cost effective. I’m losing so much less than I used to in the scooping process. Anyway, that’s just my 2p worth!]

A bit pricey for an ok product.
I've been trying to find an affordable lightweight alternative to our usual clay based cat litter, as with 5 indoor cats our bin bags are quite a weight lifting challenge every week, not to mention generating too much household waste for our councils miserly general waste bins per household allowance. Being able to flush this was the main attraction even though it's 5 times more expensive than our usual litter. Cons 1. Our cats aren't keen on this and were slow to use it for both wee and poop, I'm only using it in two trays at the moment, and using wood pellets in two others. Normally they never poop in the pellets, preferring the clay. however since we've been using this they have started pooping in the wood pellets to avoid using this. Having said that two of our 'flock' have started using this for all business matters. 2. It's not as odour neutralising as it claims, when cleaning the trays (scooping) there is quite a whiff. However it does dissipate fairly well. 3. Not sure that I trust the consistency to flush all used litter 4. If you're not flushing or composting this, it's not particularly light weight once wet, so for us doesn't help much with the weight of the rubbish bags. Pros 1. It clumps well, a little smooshy as mentioned by others, but if I tip the tray I see the 'islands' of pee solidified litter easily. Though they are a bit 'sticky' and take some scraping to get off the bottom of the tray 2. Once a 'normal' poop is buried it can be 'sieved' easily so that most of the 'clean' litter goes back into the tray 3. It does seem to be lasting longer than my usual litter, I'm about halfway through the ten litre bag, in 5 days which means it should last approximately 10 days, I would have gone through about 30L of my usual litter in that time. 4. The toilet plumbing does seem to be coping with flushing a proportion of the soiled litter so far, I don't risk every scoop going that way though, and I double or triple flush the loo when disposing of the litter. If you just have one or a couple of cats this could be a good option, especially if they are trained to it from early on. For us it's going to be too expensive to carry on with past this bag, and my cats don't like it much either. so my search for an affordable lightweight and or flushable litter continues.

It has a lot of dust right out of the package. Doesn't clump as well and sticks to the bottom of the litter pan. Since the particles are tiny and light, it tracks a lot as well. I'd rather recommend Cat's Best Original cat litter since it's similar in price but quite better than this.

Bonjour.
