Sunday Morning Coming Down: A Frieda Klein Novel (7) Review: Read with the lights on! - Such a TERRIFIC WRITING DUO! LOVE EVERY BOOK ! Review: 'Cause There's Something In A Sunday - 'On a Sunday morning sidewalk I'm wishing, Lord, that I was stoned 'Cause there's something in a Sunday That makes a body feel alone And there's nothing short a' dying That's half as lonesome as the sound Of the sleeping city sidewalk And Sunday morning coming down' Kris Kristoffersen Nicci French, the author, has written this series of books with protagonist Dr Frieda Klein, by including in the titles the days of the week. Now, here we are on Sunday, and presumably the last with Dr Frieda Klein. However, we know from the last paragraph of the book that Frieda may reappear, but not as the Frieda we knew. When we last left Frieda on a Saturday, a body was discovered under the floorboards of her living room. Now, we know who it was, and probably who put the body there. This last book brings the story of that person, and those who assist him. All of Frieda's close friends and relatives may be at risk of danger. Frieda's close friend Detective Chief Inspector Karlsson has been injured, and he is on sick leave. However, he joins in for the hunt of the killer as best he can. We are introduced to a new Chief Inspector, Petra Burge, who has the thin body of a runner, and has great intellect and detecting skills. In and out of Frieda's home go her friends and relations. Frieda tries to continue her work as a psychotherapist, but that is often interrupted. Frieda's greatest skill is her ability to compartmentalize, and organize her thoughts while walking. In this series, we are treated to a walking woman's lay of the London land and landscape near and around the great river, Thames. Frieda thinks things out and comes to her conclusions on these walks. Not everyone believes her, but those who know her best do. This was one of the more enjoyable books in the series. The past four or so have been same old, same old but with different cases caught up in Frieda's life. Now, we are here on Sunday, and though there is no great conclusion, there is an ending of sorts. Has Frieda had enough? Recommended. 08-01-17

IS THIS THE END?
Psychotherapist Dr Frieda Klein once again finds herself in the midst of a criminal investigation when the rotting body of an ex-policeman is found beneath the floorboards of her house. The corpse is only months old but the main suspect, murderer Dean Reeve, died over seven years ago. As the killer picks off his next victims and her home is turned into a crime scene, Frieda’s old life seems like a hazy dream. With eyes of the world upon her and no answers from the police, Frieda realizes that she will have to track this killer before he tracks down those she loves. My Thoughts: I have been a fan of this series from the very first outing. Some readers find Frieda Klein to be unlikable, but I am not one of them. Yes, she is determined, and she pursues her goals, even when others disagree with her; she has no qualms about telling others when they are wrong. She is almost always right, too, which annoys the police. She loves London, and her famous walks through the streets when she is trying to think, to solve a problem, are a big part of her routines. She is a bit obsessive in these routines, but as a reader, I take comfort in how she goes through her days following these patterns. I can count on her to take certain actions when others will not. I also like how she enjoys her cozy mews house, so when this book opens with the discovery of a dead body under the floor boards of that house, we know that Frieda will be deeply affected. But what happens next will be even more disturbing. Someone appears to be copying Frieda’s nemesis Dean Reeve, the perpetrator in previous murders that the police do not believe is still alive. Now her friends and loved ones are being targeted. That same Someone is sending Frieda a message. When she figures out who, someone the police have not even suspected, she has a hard time convincing them. One more person, a police detective, almost dies before they finally get the message. But will the perpetrator be captured? Will the police finally find Dean Reeve? The ending left me in a quandary. Is the series done, leaving so many loose ends? Or will there be another outing? No matter what, I loved this series and Sunday Morning Coming Down . 5 stars.

Wish There Were More Days in the Week
Long time readers of this series are going to be surprised at the direction of this outstanding seventh outing for Frieda Klein and her friends. If you have read Saturday Requiem you know that Dean Reeves has left a grisly calling card for Frieda under her floorboards. Finally the police believe her and an all out search is launched for him. Unfortunately this does not keep her friends and loved ones safe. I say friends and loved ones, but in Frieda's world they are one and the same. Sasha was out of the picture visiting her father. Yay! It drove me crazy that Frieda could be so forgiving. I wonder if Karlsson ever could. Oh wait, these are fictional characters. Darn, I did it again, got sucked back into Frieda's world. I'm not going to waste too much time on how this is such a good book and the characters, plot, pacing, setting etc etc are as good as always. Just trust me on this and dive on in.

Frieda #7
I thought 7 was going to be the end - but there will be an 8th Love the series. I admit I was a little slow to warm to Frieda - but now I really enjoy the character. All of the characters are great - well developed - feel as if you know them This story begins with Dean Reeves leaving an unpleasant "gift" for Frieda under her floorboards. (If you haven't read the series you may wonder who Dean Reeves is - he is a serial murderer that everyone, including the police - believe is dead - except Frieda knows he is alive) But now, finally, the police believe her and an all out search is launched for him. Unfortunately this does not keep her friends and loved ones safe. Unpleasant things start happening to Frieda's friends.

I am reading the Frieda Klein series and started with Friday (I know wrong order) but picked it from my wife's collection and was hooked. I decided to then read Saturday and Sunday...now started the final one. I thought Sunday was the best so far, great story telling by the husband and wife team and superb characterizations, as is their style. You will not be disappointed.

I love Frida Klein and am rather sad to think, that this one might have been the last book. She and her friends became mine too while reading and I am going to miss them all. The book has its usual turns and surprises - definitely a good read, if you like the others.

I ordered this product as I thought it was different from another Sunday morning title I had bought written by these authors. I bought my book on the Kindle, this was not available on Kindle, so I thought it was a different book. It took so long for the book to arrive and I noticed it had come from England. I was really upset as the title was just slightly different, but the book was the same. I did not send it back as it did come so far, however, it is annoying to be shipped a book I already have, due to different title and different delivery method. Not a happy person at the moment. I Really enjoy these two authors just feel deceived.

Like many others, I expected this to be The last of the Frieda Klien novels. However, it appears this is not likely to be the case. This instalment was exciting and somewhat different, in that the protagonist is clear about two thirds of the way through the story. It's as exciting as the majority of the books in the series. All the usual crew return. However, the police investigation is led by a new female character. This was interesting, but there was no room in the plot to more fully develop her character - perhaps in the next instalment? We are still left hanging re any plans to move forward any romantic interest between Frieda and Karlson. As with the previous episode, book 6, he doesn't feature a great deal and you wonder if the authors have got bored with him or are unsure whether to keep his character or get rid of him. Overall, I enjoyed the book but I do think Frieda Klien series has come to the end of the road. Maybe one more book to resolve outstanding issues with her stalker and then move on to a new series?
