Micca OoO Slim Passive Bookshelf Speakers Home Theater, Stereo Pair, Walnut

I had a unique situation - I wanted hi-fi audio, but had only a few inches of space on each side of my TV, with no option to mount speakers on the walls, and zero usable floor space. My bedroom is tiny and long, so it's a miracle I even had space for my 48" TV, stand, and other assorted devices. Before finding these, like many of you, I went through tons of speakers, reading reviews and scanning dimensions, pricing, and various specs. I didn't want to cheap out and get some pc/desktop speakers - these are tuned for someone listening just a few feet away max and wouldn't fill my room with sound. I also didn't want to sacrifice audio quality for speaker size - there are plenty of mini-sized bluetooth speakers that can be paired and used as a 2.0 setup, but again, the quality is generally lacking, and often the price is double what I'd want to pay, considering this. They'd also limit what I could add to the setup later, as well as my connectivity options. Lastly, I didn't want to spend $1000+ for a specialized micro setup - I know they exist, and my wallet fears them. The bottom line: If you're like me and have no space to spare, desperately want high quality audio, but don't want to blindly spend $1000 on some weird micro setup, look no further! These speakers are less than 4" wide (yes, four inches!), sound like a pair DOUBLE their size, and possibly TRIPLE their price (according to many reviews). The brand is reputable, and the quality speaks for itself. Let me be clear: even if I had more space for larger bookshelf speakers, I'd probably still go with these. They are that good! Getting started, what were my other options? Well... there weren't many. I found a huge variety of 5-6" wide bookshelf speakers that simply would not fit, a bunch of desktop speakers that really shouldn't be used in a small home theater setup, and... ...the most promising option at the time, a pair of Audioengine A2 Plus's. Now, these are also 4" wide, so they'd fit just fine, however they are almost triple the price, and according to many reviewers, that price doesn't exactly match the output (most pointed out that you could pay half their asking price and still get better hardware). To be clear, they're not bad speakers, but for someone looking for true hi-fi audio who also wants the most boom for their buck, they likely won't cut it - note that this is par for the course for many all-in-one setups, such as soundbars (speaking of which, STAY AWAY, please, if you value quality audio, as well as your wallet). Beyond other obvious issues, I wanted clear stereo separation, so soundbars were very much off the table. I also looked at the Micca RB42's, which are highly reviewed and decently priced. Sadly, they're also 1" wider and would've left me with literally no wiggle room. I will likely revisit these in the future, if my space changes. Another option were the Cambridge Audio Minx Min 22's, which seem to be well liked, but are 3x the price - for a blind buy... I couldn't stomach it. I'm also not totally certain if they'd be suitable as main speakers in a 2.0/2.1 configuration (Are you using these? Please leave a comment!). So, by some miracle, I stumbled upon these, the Micca OoO bookshelf speakers. Most importantly to my particular situation, their footprint is as minimal as it gets (you can even place them horizontally!). But how is the actual audio? Their sound is clear and expansive, with nice, warm mids, punchy and surprisingly deep bass (technically rated for 60hz, though I'm hearing/feeling decent bass response down to about 35hz), and clean highs (not too crispy/sparkly, but not muddy either). Overall, they lean a tiny bit towards the warm side of things, with a great, truly room-filling soundstage and *plenty* of detail (without any additional processing that certain all-in-one solutions unfortunately rely on). Additional notes for BASSHEADS: these are not going to rattle your windows, but they provide WAY more bass than their size would suggest. You will likely have to turn down the bass a bit in an apartment/shared living environment. Personally, I don't feel I need a subwoofer. YMMV, of course. Also, for the audiophiles reading this, these are NOT bass-focused speakers - while they do provide great bass, they are also very balanced. Again, they are slightly more on the warm end, but the emphasis is on detail. How's the build quality? Well. Hrm. Unremarkable? They seem sturdy. Nothing rattles. Everything plugged in nicely. They look lovely, though this is obviously subjective. I honestly don't foresee any issues relating to build quality in the future. What's my setup? I've paired these with some decent 12g banana plugs ($30 - never overspend on cables!) and the S.M.S.L. AD18 ($140, another fantastic option for tiny setups like mine - review incoming). The whole setup cost less than $300! My wallet, and ears, are quite happy. Are they top of the line? Absolutely not, and they are likely limited by their size, though this is not unique to these - you can only get so much sound out of a smaller set of speakers. But wow, they really do sound fantastic, especially in a small space like mine (though they can certainly handle enough power to fill a much larger space, according to specs and my testing). For the price (perhaps even 2x, *maybe* 3x the price), I don't think they can be beat. tldr; These are fantastic speakers with a tiny footprint, outputting high quality audio with a surprising amount of bass (while not sacrificing clarity). Can definitely be used as your main speakers in a 2.0 (or more) setup. A steal for the price, and they punch well above their weight. Highly recommended, for audiophiles and casual listeners alike.

First off...WOW! I've been listening to these for a couple of days now. Unlike the Mb series, these don't seem to need as much break-in. They sounded great right out of the box. I called the wife down to the man cave last night to hear these, she is not technical but has great ears. She was amazed at these, especially when I told her the sub was off. I had to prove to her that there was no sub playing. The bass is that good, and for 3" speakers, that's unheard (see what I did there?) of. These play crystal clear, the highs and mids are just great, but they have a very satisfying low-end response too. Not window shaking subwoofer bass, but real bass. They sound really good without a sub. Now, these things are tiny, about the size of children's shoe boxes. I reviewed the RB-42s recently, and gave them a glowing review with one caveat. OK, I'm gonna ruffle some feathers here, BUT I LIKE THESE BETTER THAN THE RB-42s!! Yep, you read that right. OK, the RB has the better crossover, and the bass might go just a touch lower. They have prettier grills and magnetic grill mounts. The RBs are superior in that respect. But these are just slightly brighter than the RBs, which I like. The RBs are just ever so slightly too warm for me. And these will play louder without bottoming out the woofers, which is the potential problem I noted with the RBs. Overall, I think these sound slightly better than the RBs. And hey, they cost about $50 less, so that's a win win. I'm sitting here now listening to them without a sub, and they are VERY pleasant. These would do sine on a desk or in a small to medium room. A large room will probably need larger speakers. Multiples of these would make an amazing home theater setup! You'd need a sub for that because of the effects, but that would be the case with any speakers in home theater use. Just buy these! They are crazy good! Update 12-19-19 I had mentioned t he RB42s above. I finally realized that there was a problem with the set I had. I exchanged them trough Amazon, and the replacement set is much better. I will now rate the RB42s better than the OoOs, but only slightly. I am still in love with the OoOs and extremely impressed by them. I'm trying to talk a friend into doing a home theater with them so we can really see what they have. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Update 5-5-20 I rotated these back into my basement office/shop, and once again I am seriously impressed with them. Though the bass is very impressive for small speakers, I am running them with a 10" Polk sub, and these guys sound absolutely amazing! I've been bouncing back and forth between these and the RB-42s, and honestly, I think these are the better all around speaker when used with a sub. They play slightly louder, and they have more of a "punch" than the RB-42s have. I seriously love these! There is nothing else for$100 that comes close to producing the all around quality that these do. Yeah, you might can get $100 speakers that make more bass, but the bass in these are very respectable, and they are extremely well-balanced speakers across the spectrum. Run these for a 2:1 stereo system and they sound great. Use them for a surround sound system in a small to medium room, and want for nothing more. They are they good! Enjoy! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Update 8-16-21 I just ordered another pair! I put the first pair in my family room as a dedicated music system, not connected to the home theater. They play along with a sub and the sum is very satisfying. Well, truth is, I missed having them in my shop, so I ordered another pair. I have compared these time and again with the RB-42s, and I honestly like these better. No, they don't have the bass of the RBs, but I run a sub with them anyway. The treble is a bit too rolled off on the RBs, and I prefer the sound of the OoOs to them. Again, these won't play super loud, just can't move that kind of air with 3" woofers. But in a small to medium room paired with a sub, they sound amazing! So sweet and balanced! Best $100 bucks you'll spend on new speakers. And they look nice and fit almost anywhere. Buy them, and run with a sub. You won't be sorry.

These sound clean for the price. I needed something for some casual listening of vinyl while I work. Wasn't looking to break the bank at all and am seriously pleasantly surprised by these. Plus I wasn't working with a lot of space so their slim design was another huge plus. Highs were crisp. Mids were good. Bass was decent for their size. Put those all together and you got a great sound for a great price.

I recently wanted to upgrade my desktop gaming PC to 5.1 audio. But the problem I kept running into was that if you look for something small enough to fit underneath your monitor, all you find are soundbars (not a good option). I already use a pair of Bowers and Wilkins for the front left and right. I have an Elac subwoofer and a pair of edifier powered speakers for the rear. I remapped my audio jacks on the PC to output 5.1 using the Realtek app. And I bought a Nobsound 5.1 small amplifier, so the only thing I was missing was a decent center channel. I stumbled across the Micca OoO center channel and it really checked all the boxes. It's narrow enough to fit underneath my monitor, it's passive, it looks great and it has a removable grill and decent binding posts. The size is perfect for a desktop setup. And it sounds great as the center channel of my gaming/office PC. That being said, I wouldn't try using it in a 5.1 theater setup, it's just way too small for that. But for how I wanted to use it, it's absolutely perfect. My games sound fantastic now. The dialog is very clear and understandable. The Micca is a nice perfect sized speaker. I want to replace my powered rear speakers with a pair of passive ones so that I can control all the volume levels from my 5.1 amp (since they're powered, I need to use the volume knob on the speakers themselves, which is a bit of a pain). When I'm ready to do that, I'll be getting the matching Micca RB42s. They've gotten really good reviews and I'm anxious to try them out. For the price of the Micca series speakers, you can't go wrong when using them in a desktop setup or small room. The OoO was really reasonable and it sounds and looks great. Glad I ran across the brand.

I purchased these to run wired as rear surrounds, but located FRONT (top left and top right), along with my main speakers L+R (on floor) which are Fisher DC-12 from the 1980s, sporting 12" woofers along with 4" mid and pair of 3" tweeters, as well as a Philips center channel speaker from previous sound system. My setup is used to listen to audio recordings (and concert videos) produced for surround sound. Using with a Yamaha RX-V481 5.1 receiver (no subwoofer). Really loving these speakers - I have them horizontal (to increase left/right soundscape) on the top of each side of my entertainment tower and they are sounding great! Never have been interested in subwoofers, as I feel like nothing much musical actually happens in that range, and find the thump distracting from vocals, guitar, etc. I get great sounding bass with my 12" woofers in the mains. However, these little dual 3" woofers per speaker are keeping up better than I thought they might. I am hearing close to the full range of sound as I do on my larger Fisher 80w speakers. If you are interested in heavy thumpy bass, I would definitely run these with a sub. But most people do that anyway. For my purposes these little guys do need to keep up with the larger speakers, since I run them in the front and want the sound balanced nicely between all five speakers. I do have them EQ'd roughly the same as my others, which I find helps tremendously regardless of speaker. The newer receivers have the EQ function integrated into the speaker setup function, with separate EQ for individual speakers. I just listed to the original Quad mix of Jethro Tull's Minstrel in the Gallery on these and was very happy! One further note - Micca has won me over as a customer, because they place seals/stickers on their boxes that say "if seal is broken, item is NOT new" and recommend calling them if this happens. This is amazing!! I have lost count of the items I received from Amazon which I purchased new and ended up with someone elses pre-opened/used/damaged return!! So thanks to Micca, Amazon is NOT able to send their returns out and resell them as new - and THAT is why there is a REFURBISHED version of this speaker at Amazon - in all other cases, Amazon uses the opportunity to resell what is really not a new product. Finally, Micca includes the logo in the box, NOT pre-affixed to the speaker grilles, so I can choose NOT to place the logo on there. I much prefer sleek looks without logos. Black rubber feet are also included in the box - nice attention to detail as I expected to have to purchase separately. Nice speaker posts (unscrew far enough to see there is a HOLE in the post to put the wire through before you screw it back down). The posts can also accept a banana jack straight in through the back as well. Nicely designed product - very happy with all aspects. Micca will be my "go to" when purchasing additional speakers!!

I bought these for desk speakers and used a lepai ta2020 amp (10 watt rms/channel). I played bass professionally and have done a ton of mixing and recording. They're isn't much info on these, so I want to be thorough. They sound decent. They have a surprising amount of bass if you equalize them properly. Without equalizing, they are kind of pointless. The sound is not balanced well. Way too much treble. I have cheaper speakers that deliver crisper and more spatial highs ( Sony Bravia surround speakers). Without cutting highs and boosting lows, bass guitar in songs is barely audible (compared to treble instruments). Equalized, it shakes the table. I did some testing and found that they can play down to around 40hz. 50hz is still decently loud, but lower than that and volume starts dropping. I played my bass guitar through them, and they sound surprisingly good. Extremely smooth, pillowy response. Micca should look into making bass cabs. Better tone than most of my cabs. They struggled on the low b string (rattling)(31 hz). It could be the amp though, so I'll have to do more testing. All in all Im keeping them. They are quite compact and I don't think anything can really blow these things away in this price/size range. They have a good sound, and are very functional. Good general purpose, stick anywhere speakers. It just doesn't make me go wow (I really wanted them to). I would only buy these as a stand alone system. There are better treble oriented speakers out there, so if you are buying a sub then these are not what you want to pair it with. Update 10-30-19 Just wanted to give an update after a few days. I bought a 50w x 2 amp and mounted these in my camper van. They are working amazingly well. Once I set the equalizer, I actually had to turn down the bass. It was shaking the walls. The only downside is for full range sound, they will not play loud. I used a decibel meter and it read 65-70 db at listening distance, about 2 ft away. Pretty cool, it sounds like a personal concert without disturbing anyone. I also ran another tone tester and got bass reproduction down to 30-35 hz. Quieter than 40 hz though I dimed the amp with bass boost and had no serious issues, except some amp distortion. I'm going to increase my rating to 5 stars. It serves my needs perfectly. Get a beefy amp for these guys. 50w a channel, they will use it

I returned these Micca OoO because they sounded very bassy, ​​the bass was very forced for such small woofers, even if I turned down all the bass on my Fosi 2120A, the bass did not disappear completely and the clarity was not enough for my taste, the voices are heard but not pronounced enough. And I have to say that my usage scenario is nearfield, for desktop with my computer. Now, the RB42 is another story, the reviews had made me think that they were going to sound very bassy as well, but no, the sound is exquisitely clear, and the bass is not forced, of course these have a larger woofer that surpasses the 2.5inch woofers of the Micca OoO. If you're buying these OoO because you really have limited space, I think you'll need to use an EQ to make them sound better (although they will sound fine at first if you're not very picky), otherwise go for the RB42s without a doubt, they are hands down superior.

I took a gamble with the speakers and ordered a two channel amplifier, which means it’s not easy for me to add a subwoofer if I chose to later. if I intended to use these primarily for music listening, I probably would want to spend more money or add a subwoofer. However, without any subwoofer added, these outperform my $300 Sound Bar subwoofer combo. if you’re looking for speakers for TV watching and you do not want a Sound Bar, your search is over. I would go so far as to say that you cannot find a better sound from a Sound Bar if you do not spend more than $500 on it. and let’s be real, sound bars are ugly and take up a lot of space. true, they make it so you don’t have to worry about running speaker wires, and having a separate amplifier, but that’s a one and done task. I could not be more thrilled with what I got for my money. if you’re an audiophile looking for hi-fi speakers, you already know that the speakers are too small and too inexpensive to do your music justice. But if you just want speakers for your TV that fill the room, you can’t beat this deal. we all know the built-in speakers on TVs are basically garbage. I’m so glad I went with these instead of a Sound Bar. honestly, they don’t even need the subwoofer for TV viewing, unless you’re somebody who wants to feel your chair rattle during movie watching. at less than $120 per pair, and spending only $80 on an amplifier, I’m only $200 into a set up which is comparable to a $500+ soundbar plus subwoofer setup. if there was ever a case to be made that sound bars are overpriced, this is it. this last part is here just in case the manufacturer is reading this review. I had never heard of Micca before. they do not put their logo directly on the speaker grille, but rather, they give you the logo with an adhesive so you can add it yourself if you want. I think the thinking here was that you might want to have a cleaner look with no logo, or maybe since the speaker can be a center channel, they weren’t sure if they should put the logo for a vertical or horizontal orientation. before I set up the speakers, I just figured I wouldn’t add the logo, since it was a no-name brand and the speakers looked cleaner without it. however, as soon as I understood how good of value these speakers are, and how impressive the sound that they create is for their size, I added the logos, because I am sure that this company is going places and will be a household name eventually. And even if it isn’t, I’m just proud to own a pair, which is an extremely unusual thing to happen with a brand in 2024, when the whole entire concept of branding seems to be on its deathbed. so hats off to you, Micca, I hope one day when I am gone, someone is looking through my estate and gets excited that they found a pair of vintage Micca speakers.

I was a bit concerned about ordering these from the US but they made it to me in top condition and pretty quickly. I've paired them with Denon DM41dab and they sound great. They make a brilliant compact desk system with the speakers horizontal on inclined foam and tucked under monitor raisers. Brilliant.

Very good sound quality from of speaker of this size. Works well even in the living room, but doesn't "fill" the room with sound compared to my larger speakers. Pair it up with a cheap stereo amplifier, you'll have a sound system that beats soundbars costing many times more.

Estoy sorprendido por la calidad que tienen estas bocinas, son pesadas, por el precio esperaba algo no tan bueno, como pueden ver, las tengo como atmos de altura, cumplen perfecto ese propósito, no esperaba escuchar tanto detalle, lo único que le movi a la calibración del audyssey fue subirle un poco a los decibelios (están conectadas a un denon avr x3700h). Vendí las frontales que tenia y un tiempo estuve probando las micca OoO como frontales mientras me llegaban las nuevas, ahí es cuando realmente me sorprendieron, tanto para música como para películas, suenan como bocinas más grandes, no distorsionan a volumen alto (no necesitaba subirle tanto para escuchar alto y claro), el cuarto en el que las tengo mide unos 6 x 5 metros y solo tiene alfombra como "absorción acústica", para mi, por el precio y calidad, fueron una excelente compra.

I was on the fence about buying these a long while. The price of these things doesn't in any way determine their true quality. These are an awesome buy. I matched them with my Klipsch B1 black label bookshelf speakers. Their bass output and sound clarity easily keep up with the Klipsch. Voices are crystal clear. No issues with the finish or quality. They even look great without the speaker grills. I can see now why they are being used as main speakers also. Great sound!
