These things are great. I have two of them in our house, and they both serve well for what I needed them for. They are medium height, meaning they stand about as high as your waist, and are sturdy and attractive, too. The really fanstastic thing about them besides the overall general good quality and good looks is the fact that the bookshelf comes pre-assembled, and all you have to do is pull it out of the box, remove the protective packing, and simply swing the ends out. The shelves then lever into place. It literally takes ten seconds, and that's it! And then, if you ever have to move it somewhere, same thing: just lever the shelves up, swing the sides in, and then the shelves drop down, leaving you with a flat assembly that you can place right back into the box in which it was shipped (note: KEEP THE BOX it is shipped in so you'll have it for the future, should you need to move it). They come in all different colors, and the price varies by color, so make sure you carefully check all the versions before making a selection. Both of mine (the one here and the light oak color) show nice, consistent staining, and really are quite attractive. Finally, note that, should you want to, you can buy a top shelf (separately) that really makes the unit complete. Understand, however, that this top shelf is nearly as expensive as the entire bookshelf itself (depending on the color). I have one of my units with the top shelf, and one without. The top shelf pops right on using the pre-fitted holes and pegs, and so this, too, is as easy as it gets. I will have to confess the top shelf does really make this a much more "complete" unit and adds visual appeal, but it is not necessary at all if all you are looking to do is get some extra bookshelf space. This folding bookcase is awesome! The packing for this bookcase was extremely well done! All I had to do was unfold the shelves and lock them into place! I’m so happy with this purchase! If you need a bookcase, this is very well made and so very easy to put together…no screws or booklet telling how to put it together‼️

Well made, and simple design lends itself to any room. Easy to set up. Great Portability and can even be stacked on itself to create taller unit.

These are great shelves for books and other items. The only reason why I didn’t give this a 5 star rating is because of the amount of styrofoam that is used in packing this item! I realize that it probably needs as much protection as possible, however I would think that there’s a better option than styrofoam. Waded up paper would be much better than styrofoam. Just a suggestion from a buyer who is concerned about how quickly our planet is being polluted. These are also stackable, but for buyers who are not planning to stack these, there should be a way to remove the peg from the shelves and put a supplied wooden plug into the top. I knew that they were made this way and I didn’t effect my overall rating. Otherwise these are great shelves and they can hold a good deal of weight. It’s real wood, not pressboard that looks like wood. It’s is not a solid piece as the shelves have joints in the few wooden slats that make up the shelf. I have a friend who has several of these filled with hardcover books. I purchased this one based on her experience with stacking these for her large book collection. She drilled a small hole on each side of the unit in the mid section of the shelf and put in very small wood screws, then used wood putty to fill the holes. It’s just added support as hardcover books are extremely heavy. It will not hold vinyl LPs, however I wish that it were able to do so. These would make incredible storage unit for vinyl collectors. The semi solid wood shelves and the size of these are much better looking than the shelving that I’m currently using. I know that I could have purchased the model that’s similar but has rounded corners and isn’t stackable. I have one of this type already. It’s been used in our office for years and it’s not showing any signs of weight related stress like sagging or wobbling. It’s just as sturdy as the day we purchased it. It has a lot of 3 ring binders on the top shelf with our bank statements as well as our investment statements. These are very heavy items. I also like the similar item with a solid top, but I chose this model for the lower price and the possibility that I might decide to add another unit on top of this one. It’s going to be used for our abundance of books we have. The maker of this unit would sell a lot more of these if they were able to hold vinyl LPs. I looked at possibly modifying the item to fit my vinyl collection, but I’ll just buy something else. Simply raising the shelves by just a couple of inches and possibly adding a solid wooden lip under each shelf for added strength would make these a great seller for vinyl enthusiasts.

This is such a handy bookshelf. It's easy to move and set up. It looks great and is very sturdy. It has a small profile so it doesn't take up a lot of space, but is still deep and wide enough that it holds plenty of books. This would be great for a college dorm or person who moves a lot. Very versatile.

For the area we needed it for, it was perfect. Love that I didn’t have to assemble it.

WHAT I WANTED: I did a lot of research and read a lot of product reviews before purchasing these bookcases. I wanted to something tall and sturdy (which is a tough task when dealing with particle board bookcases, which includes most bookcases in this price range). But I also wanted bookcases that wouldn't cost me a fortune and, best case scenario, I could handle on my own without a second pair of hands. These fit the bill exactly. WHAT I BOUGHT: In the end, I bought four of these foldable bookcases, for stacking in pairs, and two mantels. By the way, with respect to the mantels, the ones available here on Amazon and sold by the Home Decorators Collection are not the ones that fit these bookcases. I couldn't find the matching mantels on Amazon, so I purchased them directly from the Casual Home website for a reasonable price. They arrived in two days, at the same time as these arrived via Amazon Prime two-day shipping. Perfect fit. ASSEMBLY: It took me about five minutes per bookcase, to unfold them and secure them in the open position. Then it took me maybe another five minutes per pair of bookcases to stack them and add the matching mantel. And yes, I did stack them on my own! (And I'm a five-foot-four woman of average strength.) They're light enough that, after finding a good grip, I could lift one bookcase high enough to place it on top of another. The connection mechanism for stacking involves inserting four plastic pieces into the top of one unit and pushing the second unit down on top of the plastic pieces. The only two tools I used for assembly were a pair of pliers (used once, because one of the metal locks was very slightly bent and didn't fit into the groove where it needed to go to secure the lower shelf of one bookcase) and a hammer (to pound the plastic pieces into their holes for stacking units and attaching the mantels). IN USE: After my two tall bookcases (each made up of two stackable units and a mantel) were assembled, I found them to be adequately sturdy. I didn't secure them to the wall, by the way. When I nudged them, they moved a bit, but it was a clear they weren't going to fall over without someone climbing on them or actively trying to knock them over. And since they're solid wood, they hold all my books and media just fine. Perfect! I definitely recommend these bookcases.

I bought 2 of these folding bookshelves in espresso after owning a couple similar sets for years. First of all they look expensive! They’re built to last - made with real wood not particle board, like so many others. Nothing to assemble. Just unpack it and unfold it into a bookshelf. I was worried about shipping but these were packed better than I could have imagined. I’ve never been impressed with packaging; yet here we are! Stability? I’m 57 1/2. I’m not going to climb up it. Put heavier items near the bottom and lighter stuff on top. If you’re still worried, fasten it to the wall. I’m not growing that to mine. Just be careful and use common sense.

Nice bookcase. I’m actually using this as a catchall stand in my kitchen. It is sturdy, has three good size shelves and is just right for the spot I have it in. I would recommend this as a multipurpose piece of furniture. I have the little corner shelf as well and it is great too. The finish on it is very nice and it goes together instantly without any hassles.

I wanted something sturdy but easy to move and fairly light. This shelf is perfect! I ordered two and stacked them - I get 12 inches height between shelves, which fits most of my books.

This can't get any easier - just unfold them and they are ready to go. They look great and appear pretty sturdy. The perfect solution to all the books that didn't fit in our larger bookcases. Haven't stacked them (though that was my original intention) so I can't comment on that. If I run out of space again, I will definitely re-order.
