Changed my sewing life!!
Before I bought this, I was given an old Brother machine that had been sitting in an attic for about 15 years. I was getting frustrated because I could never get the tension right, the machine kept skipping stitches, the thread would become loose every time I took pressure off the foot pedal, and the foot pedal was difficult to get the speed you wanted. It was stressful and an awful experience. Enter the Brother CS7000i. It was the breath of fresh air I was looking for!! The foot pedal is so much better at control the speed, especially now that I have the speed toggle. I can sew in strait lines much easier, threading is a breeze with the thread helper, the bobbin pop top makes live so much easier (don't have to pull the thread out after loading, just load and go (for the most part), and all the different presser feet and button attachments make life amazingly easier. The seam ripper that comes with it is mostly garbage but that's a simple purchase and one should have a couple on hand for those moments when you're getting stressed out and using the seam ripper, set it down, forget where you set it down, and move on to another until the original one shows up. ha ha The fact that it comes with a seam ripper is unusual so I'll take it. This is great for beginners because you have so much control and ability to do so many things right away!! All the feet open up so many opportunities. (Please note there was not an invisible zipper foot or an invisible zipper setting so i had to buy and figure out on my own.) I highly suggest this model and the price is A+ for what you get.

Great machine
I bought this sewing machine for use by myself and my teen daughters. I had barely any experience using a machine, but they had all taken a class in middle school that taught them sewing machine basics. I wanted something that offered basic functions, but that we can expand on as we gain skill. Two of my daughters are also trying their hand at historical reenactment, and I wanted this machine to be able to make costumes. The machine has some nice features to expand to. Because it’s controls are digital, it takes a little learning. I found that the manual could easily be followed step-by-step. I used it like a textbook, and began working my way through it from front to back. I experimented with all of the different stitches and buttonholes on a scrap of fabric. It clearly described steps, and the terminology wasn’t over my head. However, there are two things I learned from videos and reviews more than the manual: how to thread the needle using the built in needle threader, and, most importantly, what brands of thread to use. Thankfully, the two most recommended thread brands - Gutermann and Coats & Clark - also happen to be the most common (and affordable) at our local Joann’s. The machine comes with three bobbins, but it also doesn’t hurt to pick up a few more if using many different colors of thread. The machine also comes with a decent selection of different presser feet, tools for cleaning, etc. The various small parts pack into a small pouch, and the pouch can be stored in the machine base. The quilting platform fits nicely onto the base to expand it, and can be helpful with other tasks, as well. We have used the machine so far to make rice heat packs, reverse engineer a costume, and make curtains for the windows and nesting boxes of a chicken house. The machine has performed well, and any problems have generally been user error because we didn’t review the manual instructions well. I have monitored how clean the machine stays, and kept up on minor maintenance. It is stored, cover off, in a large cabinet. I did buy a free standing lamp to help increase visibility at night because the built in light only illuminates a small space, and the ceiling light above our work area is not extremely bright and is off for the angle of work. Overall, I am very happy with this Brother machine. The price was not exorbitant, it does what we need, it doesn’t lose calibration (like a cheap Singer that someone once bought me as a gift) or need frequent repairs. Because of my experience with this machine, I would recommend Brother machines, this model especially, to those who want a good basic machine that offers the ability to have fun learning new skills.

My wife loves it
My wife wanted to get back into sewing after decades away from doing anything with a sewing machine, and was interested in learning to quilt. We had an older machine, and it was difficult to use and finicky on settings. I felt it would discourage her interest to constantly fight with it, so began researching a new one. The predecessor to this unit, the CS6000i, seemed a real owner favorite. It took forever to find this new one in stock anywhere, but it finally came available on Amazon so I ordered it as a surprise for her. She loves it! With the machine difficulties eliminated, her enjoyment of sewing has really taken off. I may have created a monster, but it’s a happy monster! The machine has good capabilities, many stitches built in, and a better array of presser feet than any machine I found in this range, and includes a walking foot. The removable table and surround make it versatile. It isn’t a huge machine, so area to the right of the needle isn’t as plentiful as a expensive long arm machine, but it’s not bad. You can drop the feed dogs for freehand quilting if you’d like. It sews very smoothly, with easy tension adjustments, needle threader help, decent lighting, easy bobbin threading and loading... just a great machine at this price point. She’s making amazing things with it!

A nice, lightweight machine - not for heavy duty or heavy usage
Overall this is a nice, lightweight machine that is easy to learn and use. It can handle most of the easier/lighter stuff, but it tends to get overwhelmed by several layers of fabric, and is certainly not built to handle heavy duty stuff (denim, leather, etc.). I was dismayed to discover that it does not have a presser foot pressure adjustment function, which is very basic. Being a beginner, I was tempted by the multiple decorative stitches when purchasing this machine, but I quickly found out that that is the last thing I should have been looking for. While I do like it and use it for various projects, in hindsight I would have opted for a stronger, sturdier, and more basic machine (in most cases you really don't need decorative stitches almost ever). However, if you are looking for a lightweight machine to serve you occasionally for easy projects, it will serve you very well, and be easy to store, handle and operate.

The perfect all around machine.
I had a Kenmore for 21 years now. Of anything buys a sewing machine is an investment that lasts a long, long time. Myacchine would lose its food in the middle of sewing and so I decided that I would get a new one this year. After searching high and low I can across the Brother CS600i. I saw the stellar reviews and then saw the newest modle (CS700i) was out. I saw everything that was included with it and I was sold! It had multiple feet included for just about any project you could think of. Needles for different fabric weights. Instructions for the machine but also what type of stitclrch to use and when! I wish I had that with my old machine. I had to ask my mom for instructions since sewing has been handed down by generations in my family (although I do it for fun). I find that this machine is great for begginers too! The speed selection is great for teaching (my 12 yo daughter). You don't need to use the foot pedal if you don't want to. I mean howmcool is that! It's VERY light. It's one reason I had selected it, lugging our my old beast was something I hated. Well at least it wasn't like my grandma's foot pedal machine. I plan on making a quilt for my bed sometime soon. Good luck to you all and if you get this machine I know you will enjoy it!

Love! Love! Love!
I love this machine. Having never taken sewing lessons, the screen telling me what foot to use, etc. is so helpful. The machine is quiet and smooth with features that I love— needle threader, drop-in clear bobbin. The auto threader is a little tricky but with a helpful youtube video, I have it mastered. So far, I’ve not used the foot control; finding the push button controls much nicer and so convenient. Another youtube video walked me through making buttonholes and it’s a piece of cake! Before, when I have purchased sewing machines, I’ve relied on others’ recommendations, but, I don’t think they understood how little I knew…I had no idea which foot to use with a particular stitch and don’t think I ever even changed the foot. Threading instructions are on the machine, but read the manual and watch a few videos (videos for the 6000 or 7000 apply) to feel comfortable winding the bobbin (so smooth) and threading. With this machine, a sewer with lofty ideas can feel like she’s been trained. Did I mention I love this machine?

Perfect for beginners
I purchased this machine to learn quilting. I love it. Prior to receiving it I never sewed a stitch in my life on a machine. Within a week I was producing advanced beginner quality items. No one...not even me could believe it. The ,annual is extremely clear, concise and helpful. Easy to understand and available digitally. Lightweight, easy to set up, beautiful programmed stitches. Came with lots of useful accessories. My favorite purchase of the yer I am purchasing one as a gift for my sister. I would recommend to anyone from complete beginner to advanced My one wish is that the light was brighter and covered more area. Something like a lined LED light on the underside would have been great. Important to note though. Read the entire manual before starting to use.
