It drips at first. I reinstalled it and applied silicone grease to the O-rings this time. No dripping so far. I recommend that the manufacturer includes a small capsule of silicone grease in the package so that people don't have to buy it separately. I guess some of the leaking/dripping reviews were because no silicone grease applied to the O-rings.

As others have said, this is apparently the older style, which is what I actually needed for my nearly 20 year old shower.I don't see any leaking, and the knob now operates smoothly and precisely (as precise as a shower knob could be, I suppose).Ask me in 10 years if it's reliable. :D Actually, it'll probably be fine. It seemed to be as good as the original one was in terms of quality. Buying an original isn't really an option, since it's obsolete and only available from people with old stock who overcharge. I decided to take my chances on a new aftermarket part, and it paid off.I would recommend it.For anybody who is curious, I didn't have any leaking, and it did get hot and cold. The symptom was that the knob didn't turn as well (I didn't realize until I replaced it), and it was very difficult to get the temperature right. I would have to turn it all the way to the stop to get it hot, then turn it almost all the way back down to get it to a normal temperature. It was slowly getting worse over time, but got significantly worse a couple of weeks ago, which is what prompted me to look for a replacement. I wasn't sure if it was the valve or the PDU, so I did both.This part came with extra washers, so I picked the ones that matched the original (the smaller ones). It also came with a little wrench for adjusting the temperature stop. They also threw in a couple of squares of sandpaper, just in case, but I didn't do anything with the sandpaper.I did put some o-ring lube (from my swimming pool stuff) on the rubber washers, just in case. If nothing else, it helped hold them in place until I had everything back together.I was very happy that I didn't have to tear up the walls to get this job done.

Worked great for about 11 months then started to leak, which basically means the design sucks if it can't last a year on a tub that get's used about twice a month. Original Kohler unit lasted 12 years. No service help available so guess i'm buying a new one, not this brand.

This worked nicely & was a relatively easy replacement.Cons: the 2 smaller O-rings that fit against the furthest most inside point, were too loose & fell off easily. Add some vaseline or lubricant to keep them in place. Problem solved! It also comes with a bunch of other O-rings that did not seem necessary but had me 2nd-guesting myself that I might have left something out. The instructions were not super clear. BUT alas.. no water leaking. Keep in mind that this is a medium-skill level repair. I am not a plumber BUT if you watch a YouTube video & have the right tools, you can do it.Suggestions to manufacture: noneWould I buy again or as a gift? I got this as a replacement for my dripping shower head. After all, for some reason, you can't expect your shower, tub, kitchen faucet to work forever anymore. You have to replace the cartridges every few years (maybe up to 10). So dumb.Anyway, I was only able to use the smaller cartridge piece, but the "cap" mechanism didn't work for me. The water would not shut off, so I used the original one, which wasn't an issue. It's really just the cartridges that fails in these as hard water or just the failure of the rubber gaskets. If you needed both, this one did not work for me, but I am not saying it won't work for you.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!After my Kohler shower was unable to mix water properly for temperature control, I replaced the pressure balancing unit with the updated Kohler GP800820, a universal replacement design that covers several Kohler iterations. It fit poorly and, while it did solve the inability to balance the water temp, it then caused the system to drip constantly.Rather than buy more Kohler parts, I found this FABULOUS replacement unit, including both the Pressure Balancing Unit (temperature balancing) and the mixing cap. It changed out in a jiffy, fit far superior to Kohler's new GP800820 (this unit seems far closer to Kohler's original GP500520 design) and the system now works perfectly again. Plus, the control actually works more smoothly than it ever did previously.Word of caution! The large retaining ring that holds on the balancing unit is threaded top and bottom where the retaining bolts for the mixing cap are supposed to go through it and screw into the housing. Having both the housing AND retaining ring threaded causes a conflict as the bolt needs to thread into both units. Solution: use the original Kohler retaining ring with holes slightly larger than the top and bottom bolt (not threaded) or drill out the retaining ring that comes with this replacement kit. I promise this will greatly aid your installation. Other than this, it's a snap.

Does not fit correctly. Still leaks. Returned 3 times. Thinking maybe i just got a bad one. After the 3rd one didn't work. I went to the local hardware store, bought the same thing different brand and it worked first time!

Yo compré dos de estas piezas y embonaron muy bien el la regadera! En vez de romper toda la tubería solo compré esta pieza y pude reparar el goteo que tenía. Súper recomiendo si es compatible con su regadera.

Was good for 2 months. Then started to drip worse than the old one that failed. Also found when removing it (to replace with Kohler upgrade part GP87685) that the pressure balance unit had cracked plastic inside. DO NOT BUY-- Purchase the kohler upgrade!

Worked perfectly fixed my shower/tub water control. No local store could help me and with this part I was able to help myself! Thank you
