Does it switch itself off after a period of not being used? What is the standby time?

Yes it does switch off after a short while of not being used not sure of stand by time but should be quite good its quite a heavy solid speaker. I also have the tronsmart s2 headset and they have a decent battery life

Can this speaker be used with a pc via usb connection?

I don't think it will work with a USB cable because the sound output from the laptop comes from the headphone socket and/or HDMI port, not a usb port. You will be able to connect this speaker with a jack plug cable. Plug the jack cable into the aux on the speaker, then connect the other end of the jack plug cable to your laptop's headphone socket.

How loud is this and how good is the bass? Do you think this would be loud enough to use for a small classroom?

It is quite loud with strong bass and would definitely be good enough for a small classroom.

Does anyone know the range of the connection?

The information states 100ft. I have often left the speaker on the window sill of my bedroom upstairs and been outside with my phone and it still works.. I only have a small 2 bed house but I have no issues with the connection wherever I am. It's a great speaker.
