Dodge tailgate shock.
Listen guy or ladies yall have did a great job with this one. It was very easy to install. The installation was on point and went on very easy with the help of the step by step installation. It does an amazing job and very durable shock that it comes with. Will most definitely order another one if I need it in future.

One is good, two will make it better.
I ordered this for a 2014 F250. Very pleased with the price and quality. Instructions were provided and very adequate for installation. I am ordering a second one to place on the passenger side of the tailgate. The tailgate I have has a fold down step and grab bar to climb into the bed. Pickup is a crew cab with 4 wheel drive. Tailgate is very heavy. One assist mechanism works good and slows down the drop of the tailgate. I think a second one would slow it down better where my adult daughter could easily operate the tailgate.

Update 11/16/2023: The seller has reached out to me and issued a full refund. I am updating this review just to include this information. Due to the good customer service, I am changing my rating from 1 star to 4 stars. Keep in mind, they did not ask me to change my review, nor was it a condition of my refund to do so. All they did was reach out and ask if I wanted a refund or a new product, I opted for the refund since I had already purchased a new tailgate assist of a different brand for my truck. The original review remains unedited below. Obviously, I was pretty angry when I wrote it, but I'm happy everything worked out in the end. I bought one of these a few months ago for my 2004 GMC Sierra 1500. It worked alright for a while, until it didn't. Several weeks ago, it completely stopped working. I opened my tailgate and let it fall, as I had grown accustomed to doing, and the tailgate slammed down with zero resistance. After returning to this page and noticing some of the absolutely ridiculous claims this company is making, I decided to make a review on it. 1) Despite what they're telling you, it's not going to make it easier to close your tailgate, it only slows the tailgate down when you open it and helps prevent it from slamming (Until it breaks, that is). 2) Claiming it (and I quote) "extend(s) the service life of the entire back end of your vehicle" is such an insanely outrageous claim that it's almost humorous. I don't think I need to elaborate on that. 3) "Rest Easy: This will be the only tailgate shock your truck will ever need. Tested and durable" How much testing did it take to make a product that completely fails after a few months? 4) "Orion Motor Tech backs it with a lifetime warranty and after-sales service." Conveniently, there doesn't seem to be any contact information listed where I could take advantage of this "lifetime warranty" and get a replacement for my faulty product. And with a $20 price tag, they're clearly bluffing anyway. Surely if you backed your product and did that much testing to ensure your product was extremely durable, you'd provide contact information or some kind of instruction to talk to customer service, right? Because if you have a superior product, you know not many people will need it, but out of the few that would, it's all about customer feedback. But if you make claims like this and don't back it up, obviously it's because your product is trash. Overall, ignoring the fact that it didn't last very long at all, I actually liked this product a lot. Initially when I installed it, the support cable on the tailgate would get pushed out of the gap, to where it was sticking outside, as some others have mentioned. Turns out it was just because I tightened one of the bolts when it was supposed to be left loose, and loosening the bolt fixed the problem. As tempted as I am to buy another one of these for only $20, I don't see the point in waiting for it to break. If I have to cradle my tailgate every time I open it, anticipating that inevitable moment it stops working, then what's the point in using this product in the first place? Overall, I would not recommend this product. If you do buy it, buy it as a gift for someone you don't like, and in a few months they'll slam their tailgate when the product fails.

Easy to install and well worth the effort.
Quality item. Easy installation. Makes tailgate operation easier for my aging back!. Definitely worth the money and the few minutes to install. Makes my 2000 GMC nearly as nice as my 2025!

Check the configuration of your tailgate before purchasing this product.
I think this tailgate damper is an excellent product, but it didn’t work for my 2015 F-250. There is a support piece on both sides of the tailgate and they won’t allow it to close with the shock in place. Seller issued an immediate refund, for which I am grateful.

Function is great! Installation, however, presents some problems.
I installed this Tailgate Assist device on my 2011 Ford F150. The first instructions made me laugh - place the vehicle in Park, turn off engine, remove the key, set parking brake, place blocking chucks under each wheel. I'm working with the tailgate, not dropping a transmission. Thus, these steps are a bit of overkill. Oh, well...Overall, the instructions are clear and pretty well done, with included pictures to assist in fitting the pieces to the truck. However, installation problems begin with the first step: removing the cover from the inside of the tailgate. Instructions say to use the star tool provided - it doesn't fit! The tool is a 2-end star tool, with a 90 degree bend; both ends are too large for the screws anchoring the tailgate cover. Fortunately, I had the correct size in my tool chest. Screws removed, rotate the cover 90 degrees to allow access for installing the blind nut (a single nut tack welded to a strip of black painted metal). You have to bend the metal strip slightly to reach around the internal reinforcing metal of the tailgate and allow the nut to set flat against the existing hole on the side of the tailgate. Bending the strip and positioning the nut were pretty easy. The next step is to install the bottom attachment pin to the tailgate by tightening it into the blind nut. Problem #2 - no wrench provided. You actually need a deep-well socket (1/2 inch if I recall correctly) and ratchet to tighten the pin in place, although a box wrench would work; the pin comes with Loctite already on the threads, so that helps to secure the pin. After tightening, I bent the metal strip a bit more away from the inside supports of the tailgate to avoid a potential rattle. Then, rotate the tailgate cover back into place and reinstall the anchor screws. The next task is removing the existing tailgate support cable; a small flat tip screwdriver is provided for that, and that's the easiest, most straight forward step in the whole operation. For the next step, the instructions say to use the star tool to remove the bolt where the support strap was located. Problem #3 - the star tool is an extremely poor fit and slips free. It's practically impossible to hold it in place and gain sufficient leverage to unscrew the bolt. Fortunately, I also had the correct star tool in my tool chest. Removal then was easy. The black metal backing piece holding the upper rod pin is installed behind the bolt you just removed, which then is reinstalled and tightened. The kit includes a small bottle of Loctite for this. Next is the installation of the pneumatic piston. Securing the top socket was easy, with it popping right over the top pin. Then, another problem was encountered. Problem #4 - the instructions say to attach the bottom pin and socket simply by raising the tailgate until the socket and pin aligned and pop the socket into place. That didn't work because the point of alignment was too close to the closed position - there was no leverage to position the socket and secure it to the pin. to solve this problem, I pulled down on the rod, extending it a couple of inches, and that solved the problem; the socket and pin aligned quickly as I raised the tailgate. Pop! It was done. The final step is to reattach the support cable; this was the only other time something worked as it should; the support cable top loop slipped right back into place. Now I could operate the tailgate. Tailgate operation was as described - release the lock, and the tailgate descends smoothly and easily; the weight of the tailgate is fully controlled by the pneumatic piston as the tailgate lowers into position. You still have the weight of the tailgate to deal with in closing, but that's no big deal. This tailgate assist device appears to be a quality item. Only time will tell how long the pneumatic piston lasts, but replacement should be simple. I've found most auto parts stores carry similar piston in various lengths and have replaced several on liftgates and bed cover windows. The tailgate assist piston fits comfortably into the space between the bed wall and the tailgate, with the support cable folding right against it as the tailgate is closed. The kit included a Mylar sheet to affix to any rub points and protect the truck, but I didn't install it. Perhaps I will if rub points appear, but at this time, I don't see any rubbing. Is it a good upgrade? Yes, i think so. It definitely makes lowering the tailgate better. Would I recommend this product? Yes, but with the caveat that the star tool provided is of poor quality and won't do the job; it is quite likely that you will need your own star tools and a wrench to accomplish the installation. Once the installation is complete, the assist device is completely hidden by the tailgate, allowing for a neat appearance with interfering with the lines of the truck at all.
