Each fluorescent substance has their own optimum of their excitation and emission light wavelengths (sometime several) - the closer to the optimum UV light you use to highlight such substance the more bright it will light. The yooperlite it's a form of a mineral sodalite, the excitation and emission sodalite spectra you can easily google (e.g. here: nightsea c o m_nature_minerals_sodalite-fluorescence, substitute underlines with a slash). As you can see the excitation optimum wavelength for sodalite/yooperlite is ~385 nm, and the emission optimum is close to 630 nm - and the stone shines between orange (600-630 nm) and a red (630-700 nm) lights, with high emission at the red part. So the answer: this lighter is ideal for yooperlite detection, and the 385 nm UV light suits better for this purpose than the 365 nm light though the latter also can make the stone shine, but almost 1.5 times weaker. **Q: What is the up beast for and what can it do** A: It is very useful for detecting contamination in motel rooms like feces, urine, rodent droppings and urine, insects like scorpions.
